Help with a 4x2x7 cabinet.

I'm making a 4x2x7 cabinet. Is there anything I will need besides a charcoal filter with a fan and lights? Also, of I have the air being exchanged how to I keep the extra CO2 in the cabinet?

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out my carbon filter and ventilation.

With a nice tall cabinet. Passive flow ventilation should work. If you use LED for lights.

I have never had to use a carbon filter. Some one will be along to help with that.

My other question is the guy at the store told me I won't be able to control odor in a wood cabinet. Is this true?

Is building a grow cabinet out of wood a bad idea?

Is building a grow cabinet out of wood a bad idea?

Is building a grow cabinet out of wood a bad idea? Thinking 4x2x7. My biggest concerns are odor and fire. I'm using LED and maybe a T5 in the cabinet so heat shouldn't be an issue. The place the cabinet will be in is REALLY dry so humidity shouldn't be anything that can't be controled.

So, my biggest concern is probably odor. With a carbon scrubber can I eliminate odor outside the cabinet?

Has anyone successfully built a wood grow cabinet?

Taking any and all suggestions.

Wood probably absorbs odors after a while. I bet if it's
painted it won't absorb odors anywhere near as fast.

I'm going to make a cabinet too in a month or so. But
I'm only using wood for the skeleton frame. The rest will
be the typical reflective white plastic/black plastic stuff.

I think as long as your venting fan and charcoal filter is
large enough you won't have to worry about what the
wood can do in terms of odor entrainment.

I'd be careful with any paint other than zero VOC latex. If you paint you don't need mylar or b/w plastic. I've used wood chambers for this is the 11th year, with no odor issues. Those guys would rather sell you a tent than see you save a ton of money using wood. Use all screw construction. Get some cheap wood paneling, 1x2's, 2x4's, rechargeble drill[at least 18 volt], maybe some 1/2" plywood for the ceiling so you can put ballasts, etc. on it. I can trip and crash into mine without even jarring it. You can hang anything. Totally strong. Good luck. -granger

Still Learning
my first box was exactly that, 2'x4'x7', shoulda made it 3'x4'x7.5' but WTH. it worked fine. LEDs are the anit fire. flat white paint (with tungsten in it ?? yes?). I ran Hydro/scrog. 400hps veg to 3 weeks bloom then 600hps.. small air-cooled hood, 4" fan.. 2 plants. it worked great. why did I go to a tent?? a-ho:biggrin:

EDIT: build it, then build it again, again just before you change growing styles winter is coming so your environment is gonna change, somehow! it fun.. I'd like to have 3 grows ina row that run the same..

If you will be growing in the same house you smoke in I would not wory about the odor. That the wood will soak up.

Piant would be great. Better reflective surface than mylar.

I do wood, on my third version of a cabinet grow box,
and you should learn that the cost of stealth always
outweighs getting pinched.

There are devices that control lights and exhaust that
help prevent overload and shut off at pre set high temps.

My set up is smaller than yours, at 36" x 36" x 24" deep.
I use a Vortex 4" fan motor and a store bought carbon filter.

My lights total 250W for veg and flower, plus the fan motor
and DC powered computer fans and a seedling mat.

If you legal, then stealth is keeping your grow from
getting pinched.

What strains you going with anyway, I wonder

I've built them out of walnut, cherry, birch and several types of plywood.
Paint the inside white and any plywood or solid wood is fine with proper construction and ventilation.

No, back before tents went mainstream building wooden grow cabs was the norm. I miss the days of grow cabs, some of the ingenious and stealth people came up with back then was amazing.

I started in a little wooden grow cab with a 250w HPS, I have since moved up to bigger lights but it isn't nearly as fun as it was back in my cabinet days.
