Help ventilating 1000w cab

I've got about a 5'x4'x7.5' cabinet with a 1000w HPS with an aircooled reflector, this is my first experience with a light this big, and i'm wondering what the best way to go about ventilating and filtering this cab.

There is no possible way for me to exhaust the spent air out of the house, but the room it will be in is cooled by central a/c.

I was looking at those Elicent 200b's, but I don't know if this would be more fan than i really need, and i have no clue what size or type of filter and ducting would be needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Have you used the search feature regarding this type of setup??? You make no mention of layout, equipment on hand, whether you can make holes in the floor/ceiling, power and so on.

Personally I would consider weatherstripping the door to prevent light intrusion. Purchase a Dark Room door louver set, inline fan, oscillating fan for circulation and place a thermostat in the gerow area that will control the A/C. Attach a flex duct sized to the hood and inline fan and exhaust it into the attic. IF odor will be a problem then install a carbon filter at ceiling height, run a flex duct to the hood, then to the inline fan and out through the ceiling, roof, or wall, your choice.

This is how I would do it. This gives you many options, ones that you will need to figure out for your particular needs and constraints. " I can't do it/that" is not much of an option.

Hope this helps you------

Theoretically, CFM=Watts/4. Depending on system additives (scrubbers, mufflers etc) you may wish to go higher.

I cannot drill holes in the floor or ceiling and odor control is an issue. I can only see intake and exhaust receiving and dumping air in the same room.

I have already searched this on the forums and cant really find the details i am looking for this is solely a flowering cab 1000w hps, I just need to figure out the best intake and exhaust setup for controlling odor and temps within the constraints i have.

Also with the carbon filter should air be sucked through it first and then exhausted through the fan or is it more efficient for it to come after the fan and have the air blown through it?

How hot is the room air that you'll be using for cooling?

I'd start with intakes being 2X the exhaust. If that doesn't do you, 2 more holes would allow for a second exhaust system. One for the cab and one for the lamp.

Pitchfork - I have a very similar sized cab and light. I started out with a 4" Vortex fan going to 6" ducting. The 4" Vortex didn't cool enough so I switched to a 6" Vortex and now all is well. The Vortex pulls air from the cab, meaning it is also pulling air into the cab thru 2x 3.5" vent holes, then exhausting it out into my room, just like with your setup.

My system goes Fan -> flex duct -> hood -> flex duct -> exit cab -> charcoal filter. That being said, there are minor differences between the efficiency of sucking vs pushing air and sucking vs pushing thru the filter. I'm sure there is a "most efficient" way of doing the vent system, and we should always strive for perfection, however, the difference between "most efficient" and "this works fine" isn't all that great. So do what you have to do to make things fit/work in your cab and don't stress over any suck/push controversy.

Obviously the cab will vent into your room, raising the temps. Your house a/c will mitigate this to a certain degree, but your temps in your room will go up. If you could put an fan in your window and force air out of your room, this would draw in more, cooler air from the rest of the house.

Good luck!
