I know that in Thailand, its death for trafficking, I hope for your sake it is cannabis friendly?, Not trying to rain on your parade, for a foreiner to be arrested for cultivation, is a big headline maybe a promotion too, carry lots of cash to payoff the cops.

Being in jail in a country were you are a guest gets old fast, trust me........

however I would try to go with some local bagseed , Im sure you will get some beans if u score a sack.

My current understanding of the situation is that things are not as bad here as in Thailand. No world prison soccer team. Vietnam is still a highly developing country compared to Thailand, and the cops get really shitty pay. In the case that a cop did somehow find out about the grow, he'd ask for his monthly pay-off. That's how things are done here. Worth much more than a promotion.

Again you bring up an interesting point that has to be seriously considered. I've been trying to find information myself as well as with the help of my wife, but there is very limited news about cannabis busts. If there is, it's related to busts with ecstasy, meth and/or opiates. Other reports are about Vietnamese bringing in kilos from Cambodia to sell in the city.

With the right apartment and no connections to any dealers here, I feel I would be pretty safe already. If anyone does have more information about this I'm very interested in hearing about it. Still not 100% if I'll go through with this, and when I could start.

I think if I was going to do this I would have the Veitnameese Johnny Coccran on my speed dial, if you or your wife as you said is a local, being able to nagotiate your freedom in their lang. is always a plus too, If I was you I would just get her to score you some smoke from her family, gotta have an uncle that smokes?, seems very un wise to start up a grow , but thats just my opinion?, guess unless you will be staying in a rural part of the country? , is that the case?

Teemu - nothings for sure yet, still have to find an apartment. If the location seems sketchy I won't do it. Even if I do it'll probably just be one small plant, surrounded by a garden of other plants. I'll be living in the city but unsure which part yet. Hoping to find a place tall enough so that nearby houses aren't overlooking the garden, and that nothing can be seen from the street.

And the family connection is a no-go, would've tried that years ago if it was possible! But the family has very good connections with the local government and police, so if shit does go down I'll have a head start versus other expats.

Flying back to Europe soon for a short trip, things should be set up within a month here. I'll let you guys know by then what happens. Wish me luck!

Good luck man, don tlet all the naysayers stop you, But SOTF420s advise to keep some cashish handy for the police just in case (hard currency !) is a VERY good idea, User pays policing can be one of the benefits to living somewhere like Vietnam

Just make sure you pay the FIRST cop as quickly as you can, otherwise it gets expensive !

you must be thinking of indonesia, malaysia and singapore.
thai drug laws suck but no death for weed.

strains I've grown here without mold are mandela satori, and safari mix,
delta 9 brainstorm haze and superstar and lots of bagseeds from local weed.
vietnam has lots of coco and a big selection of ferts( I use vietnamese kelp) .
I have mosca's c99 bx1(just one, as seeds got crushed in transport) and some neville's haze veging atm.
Next I will pop some Khmer Gold from Gypsy's collection.
now till october is a great time to start some seedlings.

Thanks for stopping in mota. Good to hear about the ferts, that was another thing I've been wondering about. Found a company selling HID lighting too in case I end up doing it indoors.

I bought some ACE Orient Express but they arrived in Finland after I flew back to Vietnam, so I came back seedless. Not going to risk having them sent here as the post office opens and digs through all incoming mail. Everything is on hold until I get some seeds unfortunately.

Oriental Express is not suitable for climates like in Vietnam and certainly not any indica can be grown there.

i've just finished moscas's c99bx1 outside during monsoon season and no mold.

I used to know some people in Vietnam who were growing the weed that's sold to the locals. It's grown in the jungles on the border of Cambodia and there are a fair few enlightened souls who take and jar the prime buds before it gets crushed into brickweed. The seeds you get in VN are the same strains as you get in Cambodia so i'd just score some local weed in another town/city and just use the bagseed. It's good weed if grown properly.

Personally I've run Nepalese Jam, Romulan and C99xGF on a rooftop in more humid places than Vietnam. As long as you top them and don't let them develop those big colas then you should be ok. I advise you to get a big bag of silica gel from a photo store for when you chop them and need to suck out the moisture from the air/buds. And bug sprays! Get bug sprays.

Hey guys,

All is good here, except that I don't have any seeds to pop ATM

My seeds are all still in Europe, and haven't figured out a good way to get them here yet.

The good news is that I just got an apartment, and the bedroom is air conditioned. Only bad thing is that it's probably like 1.2 meters tall. If I ever get this started it'll be with LED/fluoros with a scrog, so maybe I can get away with strains more indica since the buds will be very small (but many). Plus with the AC, the humidity won't be as bad.
