Help plan European honeymoon in April 2006...

Hopefully I've posted this thread in the right place... My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to be in April of 2006. My one request is a few days in Amsterdam so I can check out the 2006 icmag cup.

I know there are a lot of people who live in Europe on this site, and many an American, like me, who is looking for a low price Euro experience. So far I'm interested in flying into Munich Germany, and then finding the cheapest way to do some rail travel on into Amsterdam. Looking for any other must stop locales along the way... I believe I'll be unable to go straight from munich to amsterdam on one train; my guess is I'll need a multi-day pass. Hopefully someone can explain how all that works so we can have an affordable honeymoon.

Other things I need to know are: What kinda pass do I need at the IC cup? If I'm goin', by golly I'm gonna have to taste what everyone has entered. I am not a real grower myself... I've only dabbled, just wanna smoke what the big boys grow. What are the best days to hang out at this huge cannaparty? Should have three days in Amsterdam, what dates are must see?

This trip is a big deal to me and my fiance... You only get one honeymoon, right? Please help us out here. I really really wanna go to your event! And the little lady seems excited about it too. Please help me out. Peace, and Thanks.

As far as the 'must' dates in Amsterdam...plan on the 18, 19, and 20th of April, the 20th will feature the awards ceremony. Unless you are able to attend for a longer period, no need to opt for a Judge's Pass....there will be plenty of nugs around, so just plan on Guest Passes (which will be offered in a few weeks).

Get Eurail Passes which will give you unlimited train travel over a designated period of time, to designated countries you choose. This can be obtained from most travel agencies in the states.

For accommodations, check out www.hotel.nl as they have everything from budget to 5* deluxe offerings. Choose a location within the 'centrum' or center part of the Dam.

Glad to have you join us. Keep an eye on the IC 420 Cup threads on the site here for all announced information forthcoming about the 2006 Cup.

Thank you so much!

Don't really know if there is any more information necessary on the cup! I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Any points of interest in Europe? Particularly in the Benelux area and Germany?

Thanks again!

We went to Greece after the cup this year. There is nothing more romantic then one of the Greek Islands. We did Santorini, which was unbelievable. On the mainland we went up the coast to Thesoloniki then onto Athens. By far Greece was the favorite of our journey. Food and drink-Superb, People-mostly awesome, Sites-unfreakinbelievable.
Cost you around 250 to 350 to fly from Amsterdam to Athens. Stay close to the Plaka in Athens, lots to do and see. Train out to Pireaus the port is cheap. Slow ferry to Santorini-around 60 euros. Experiance-Priceless!

Thanks a lot Boink. I'll check out travel options to Greece from dam and back. You're not the first to tell me Greece is beautiful, either it is really something; or there's some weird pro-greece conspiracy.

My buddy did Greece for this honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Mykonos and other locations...

Myself, I did Italy (Rome, Positano, Capri) and found it to be incredible. We're planning to go back ASAP. What I want to do next is fly in to Adam, and Eurorail down through Europe over 2 weeks ending up in Italy where we'll go back to Positano and Capri. These 2 places are insane.

I flew into Frankfurt and stayed in Germany for a couple weeks several years ago. I took the Eurorail up to Amsterdam (first time I went there). It's about a 5-6 hour trip from what I remember, I might be a little off though.

Ps - both trips mentioned above were done in June, you might want to check weather for April to be safe.

Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

L2G, First off it's much cheaper to fly into a larger European city. London being the cheapest city to fly into. Train pass and Eurostar tickets will have you in Amsterdam in six hours. Munich is 9 or ten hours by train. I'd fly into a western european hub Like London, Paris, Madrid and travel around by train thru Europe and return from a Eastern European hub like Berlin, Prague, Rome, as it would take too much time by train returning to your arrival city. Hopes this helps you.

Thanks Smokey, that's the kind of advice I'm looking for... money savers. I've done a bit of air travel thru out the U.S., however; like most Americans I know little geography outside theethnocentric sphere of influence created by my educators growing up. Sounds like I could save a couple hundred bucks if I check out different cities to fly into. One thing that must be understood is that English is the only language I can speak, and European accents may make even that language difficult. Just something extra to consider. Thanks for all the help guys.

Thanks hallucinogen... Good advice. Ideally we'd like to know if a country is pot friendly, the only sex I'm looking to have will be with my fiance (wife in April I guess), and not some dude named pierre in a European jail cell. Peace

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Just a small correction to what my friend Smokey wrote (heya Smokey! wave:...Rome is southern Europe, from Rome you can easily and cheaply visit Tunis, Morocco, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, France and Montecarlo...the Mediterranean area :D Its the only potentially nice weather you'll find....Central and Northern Europe are notoriously rainy in April

Thanks Indigo! As long as it isn't a tsunami or something really bad, I'll still have fun. Seeing sites, trying foods, and smoking the best damn bud in the world all can be done in a little drizzle!

Hi Indiglo, my point is if he entered Europe in a northern city and attended 420 in A-Dam by rail pass Rome would probrobly be the exit point for a cheap flight home. If he chose to visit Munich, Vinice, Malin, Florance. ect. It all depends on where he wants to enter the continent and from where he wants to leave from. I'm looking at the cheaper gateway cities. I wish Monte Carlo was a cheap flight I'd be there.

L2G-

What kind of things are you interested in? I was lucky enough to have lived in Germany for 13 years. They have absolutely awesome museums if you are into historical stuff and/or art. The Rhein River is really nice, though you are going to be there early for the wine stuff.

The weather can be really wet that time of year (actually, Germany can be really wet almost ALL year). Take clothes you can layer for warmth with an outer layer that is water resistant if you are going to spend much time outdoors.

I don't know the current laws in Holland, but when I lived there, you needed to bring your own towels, washcloths, and sometimes sheets (not at hotels, but at hostels, etc). Bed & Breakfasts are fun and an interesting way to meet local residents; again, you may need your own washcloths/towels depending on local custom & law.

You might find it cheaper to fly into Frankfurt than Munich. Frankfurt used to be the largest international airport in Western Europe; I am not sure if that is still true. London is also a good choice for less expensive flights.

A EuroPass is the best way to do train travel.

Croatian weed can be excellente if you get the good stuff.. on the whole its full of seeds.. i took some bubble hash and they were amazed.. :joint:

Yeah Smokey, you have a point. I know one thing, there are no direct trains from Italy to Holland so it would have to be the last stop of the trip. I don't know what kinda airfares y'all have over there. It'd probably be a good idea if they found out the two most convenient points to fly into and out of, then maybe plan the trip around that.

Thanks again for all the help so far guys! By the looks of things it's just as reasonable to fly straight into Amsterdam. That's more than cool for me. That way I can go into town and check it out pre-cup on around the 13th or so of April, then hit the Eurail travel.

Sites that I'd like to see would be anything. Never been out of the US, so I've never really seen any buildings older than mid 1800's. I like museums, art, inside stuff may be better the way the weather is liable to be. Germany will definitely be on the menu for a visit, not sure yet about making it much further from holland. Any info on the other of the Benelux countries? How are they? If I keep my radius of inter-country travel small that should help shave a few bucks off of the Eurail passes... yet still provide some variety on the trip. I do want to avoid trying to do too many places, as all of the people I know who have done Europe have all done too many places too quickly.

I like Brussels, good food, excellent brew and old a$$ buildings. From Brussels it's a train ride to Paris................

Gonna look into Brussels Smokey... but I've heard many an unpleasant thing about Paris. I had a friend from France in college, awesome guy... taught me a lot about how cool their society is; only problem is all of my American friends have had such negative experiences in that country. I would definitely need mucho advice on where and how to do France. Thanks.
