Hi all,

I'm running a DWC,I had 3 plants with roots in the same tank.I cut one of them because it was a male(the seed was feminized, not an hermy but a complete male),now I have its roots in the tank, embedded with the two others plants.
Now,the question is pretty simple.what should I expect?what should I do?
I can't remove them without cut a part of the other plant's roots and I really don't want to cut them.Root rot will come on those roots, isn'it?If I don't do anything? Will other plants be affected from root rot too?
Here some pics to explain the situation:

I don't really like to cut roots but have before and a friend of mine prunes his roots all the time on some of his moms. He went to school for plants and said he learned something there about that. If those were my plants I would minimally prune off what you need to get off to take out your other plant. I was scared when my friend started pruning my moms roots in the past but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. When I have to do that i also give them a dose of Super Thrive. Should be fine.

That is tough, but " ME" i would try my best to pull out the male roots as there eventually gonna rot and infect the healthy ones. try you best not to rip the other roots. Then definitely get a zyme product. Some other people use a hydro gaurd or aqua shield, but i have no experience with HG or AS.

Could maybe get a product called Physan 20 and add it in small doses to help prevent the rot. It kills and prevents algae.

another idea is when i work with seperating roots in my cloner, i like to do it while the roots are suspended in water. makes it easier for sure..

U probably should be using a zyme product anyways.

good luck an b-safe

DESCRIPTION:

CANNA RHIZOTONIC is a powerful, algae based, vegetative stimulator for roots of fast-growing plants that already have roots or root initials. RHIZOTONIC stimulates further root development, increases the plant’s resistance to disease and promotes its inner and outer strength.
RHIZOTONIC is 100% natural, and contains multiple vitamins. RHIZOTONIC influences the root environment and is the ideal supplement for the crop environment created by the grower. RHIZOTONIC has a calming effect on plants, and is ideally suited for use when shipping or re-potting plants. RHIZOTONIC will also improve plants that are unhealthy or poorly developed.
RHIZOTONIC can be used regardless of the type of medium. It is suitable for cultivation in potting mix and hydro culture. RHIZOTONIC is often sprayed on leaves and can be used as a simple means for raising the pH level in fertilizer tanks.
Root stimulant
RHIZOTONIC adds more than 60 microbiological substances that considerably speeds up the growth of a balanced root environment. Various trace elements and vitamins such as B1&B2 have been added to RHIZOTONIC in order to stimulate the plant production of hormones and root growth, thus providing better and stronger roots.
Vital plants
Good results start with a healthy plant. There are many different ways of stimulating plants aside from a healthy balance of EC levels, acidity, temperature, air and light. RHIZOTONIC does so during and in the rooting and growing phase. Another important element in RHIZOTONIC is the root-strengthening hormone Oligosaccharide. Scientific research has shown its beneficial effect in the creation of root cells without any negative side effects. Your plants will be certain to get beautiful, strong white roots with RHIZOTONIC.
Benefits of CANNA RHIZOTONIC:
• Aids in the immediate generation of lush, new root growth on cuttings and transplants.
• When used as a seed soak prior to planting, it will speed up the germination process.
• Enhances overall plant growth and chemical reactions in the plant to ensure a healthier, powerful and stronger plant.
• Aids in the recovery process of any plant or cutting that has been subjected to stress in any way whatsoever.

Read this thread.

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=55259

It is long. Started in 2007 and earlier this year richyrich solved the problem starting around post 300 or so, and refined the answer with the addition of EWC tea around post 600 or so. All the other suggestions are just that... suggestions. If you want to solve your problem, spend an hour or so and go through the entire thread and see the evolution of the answer. Even how to brew and add the tea to your hydro mix.

In short, you need to buy some "Physan 20" to kill the rot and EWC tea to prevent it from ever returning. Without the addition of beneficials, all the other products shown above are just stop gap measures.

Do not run Physan 20 as an additive in your system. It is a dip to kill, then triple rinse off. Plants will wilt and die with prolonged exposure to Physan 20. Richyrich has the rate in his signature on his posts starting around post 600 or so in the thread. But without the EWC beneficials, you are wasting your time.
