they were an inheritance, n they need to be clean so they can be displayed.

I know what DOES work, so Im not interested in recommendations of alcohol, or other specific products.. What I wanna know is about boiling.

does it work?
can somone assure me that boiling wont break a pipe?

Well im not sure..just getting into glassblowing and all..but i imagine borosilicate will not break in boiling water. It probably depends on how well the pieces were annealed..

I'd imagine it wouldn't chip/break it as long as the temp change isn't too drastic meaning put the pipe in with lukewarm water and let the water boil with it in there. I've only tried to to sterilize mason jars so I'm not sure if it would work for a pipe.

I personally like using simple green to clean pipes...easy and I've found it to work the best for me. I <3 simple green.

and boiling water sounds a helluva lot more convenient that driving 15 min to the nearest rubbing alcohol depot.........

water in the bubbler/bowl ,in the microwave, cleans it out good,but the water starts pouring out of every hole,take it out shake it,and the rez should come right out,watch out tho,the fucking glass and water will be HOT,at first its not,but in a couple of secs it just starts fucking heating up,it crazy

I've used tongs and sat with a pipe-cleaner... held it under/pulled it out & scrubbed, and again, and again, or just put a silicone dish in the pot of boiling water, and then the piece in the silicone to add cushion.... this will keep it from clanging around, which will break it...

ALSO!!! DO NOT PUT HOT GLASS ON A COLD SURFACE!!!

iso and rice(white), shake vigorously, rinse,repeat, rice is more abrasive and seems to absorb the funk.repeat agin if needed.

i recently heared about opxyclean...ive seen my boy clean his rooors and they come outlike new(oxyclena)...dunno if its good or safe to smoke out of once its been used tho.

oxy works wonders also. just give it a thorough cleaning and rinse. and it should be good to go.

Please excuse me for not saying what fine specimens you inherited earlier! And thank you OG bub, very kind of you to say, it was a birthday present. I have it wrapped in a piece of cloth, in a pot of boiling water at the moment, not sure how long to let it go. I have another 45 minutes before I am due at a restaurant.

Don't boil.

Boiling is hit or miss.

I have witnessed more pipes break after contact with extremely hot water than for any reason.

Just ISO soak, and then fill it up, cover holes with fingers and shake etc.
