Im really skeptical of this.

Many look down upon XX breeding for fear of missing something from the male plant. If its so simple to force regular XY seeds to express as mostly/only females before germination, feminized XX seeds probably wouldnt be as prolific as they are currently because we wouldnt need them to make only female offspring.

It's not as easy as it's made out to be. That's for damn sure!

The only thing wrong with XX breeding is the tail at the end of the DNA (can't recall it's name) keeps getting shorter. That tail is restored with XY breeding. Otherwise I don't see any issues.

Well I'm sitting here waiting on the Dr to call me back. The thing I'd do is kill that male....you might put a bag over the limb and try to collect some pollen. But there's a chance that you could dust the whole plant. I mean what do you want some weed (4-8oz est) or some seeds,???? Unless your convinced you have a cross that's worth maybe seeding your whole crop. There's lots of breeders and seeds priced reasonable. If you think you could catch some pollen and dust a bottom branch.....that's the only way I keep the male.

Usually if you get down on your plants and look you'll see the white pistils. If you already have females showing and can't really see any signs/pistils it's 90% probably a male. I'm not saying all the time but most fem will show a white pistils or so around the top if you really look closely, before males show. It depends on strain too but hell, you know the difference in male or female lol....not telling you something you don't already know

If I had to choose.... Pull the male and move on. Live and learn friend

C'mon guys.....telling him to stop growing lol. Sometimes shit happens. Cull the male.... Unless you got other plants and don't really need the weed. If you got another patch and plenty of females them dust it. If that's the only fem you might want to cull the male

Could you explain this more or share some links for me to read? Tried searching google but had no luck.

I understand selfing/inbreeding causing negative traits to surface, but what exactly is the plant losing in that tail end of the dna?

True.

I haven't traveled down the rabbit hole too far, and I hope someone can correct me, but from what I've read, the more you self, the more undesirable traits can be expressed. The upside is that some interesting past phenos can surface at f2 and when when pollinating other mothers (I'd LOVE a Chocolate Glue. lol). BTW, that's why some folk in the know want cuts/clones of a famous plant instead of seeds to grow a mother. Preserve it.

It seems the traits we don't want are stronger (what's the term?) and will express more often if you keep selfing ultimately creating a junk plant that will hermie the minute you move it, become mold magnets or something else undesirable.

I think the trick is to find the pheno you're interested in very early on (at f2?) and then bringing in a chosen male, preferable one that also produced flower (rare and another topic), and you start with regular seeds all over again. Hopefully, with something better than what you had FOR YOU (leaf to calyx ratio, better flavor, color, early and shorter flowering, whatever...). My problem is not being able to choose which pheno I want. I love them all.

Hum.... this thread is about a male in AgentPothead's garden. Sorry for going sideways on it dude. But it's relevant if you cull the male then self a female :tiphat:

So AgentPothead,

You don't know what you're doing and may end up with a load of seeds instead of seedless weed.

I'm with therevverend. I say dig it up and reveg it under lights. Then clone, pollinate whatever you want.

I've done it many times, it's easy. Just make sure to prune the top to match whatever size rootball you dig up and put it in dark/low light until it looks like it wants some.

Snip a dozen branches off that have male pre-flowers. Root them in a glass of water on a window sill. Kill big plant. Collect pollen from branches in cup, use on a branch of the outdoor female plant. May benefit to spray the entire plant with water, minus the branch you wanna pollinate . That way when you use the pollen, you won't seed the entire plant.

Just this guy, ya know?
I should be headed up there today to cut some branches for clones. I should have it ripped out by the end of the week at the latest. Thanks everybody for the comments and ideas.:huggg: I'll hit ya'll with rep when it reset.

I agree with double triple og. Get a few of the most developed branches and stick em in a glass of water put the glass on something you can catch pollen on like a plate or cooking pan. That is what I'm doing this year

In case anybody actually GAF, I have taken 5 cuttings off the male plant. Wrapped each end in a paper towel sprayed with water and a tiny bit of added KLN. Then put the paper towels in a ziploc baggie and put them in a cooler with ice packs for 24 hours. I figured if there were any bugs the cold would at best kill them and at worst just slow them down long enough to smoosh them. Put them into the tent yesterday, they looked a little rough. I was really worried that first day they looked bad. Looking much better today, perked up quite well. Fingers crossed they reveg okay going back to 18/6.

:tiphat:Thanks bro. Timeline of pics from cut & wrap, to cooler, to the first day in tent where they look horrible, to that second day in tent where they look decent. I also hope it's a stud :D My only male plant so far, is an RQS Amnesia Haze. Gonna be crossing that with Liberty Haze, B3N7 Erdpurt, and whatever magic I can find at GeneTraders.

Well, I'm glad I cut that male plant when I did. When I got home last night and checked on clone tent, 1 of the god damn balls had opened! It dropped pollen on my cloner! I immediately grabbed all the male cuttings and took them and put in a jar of water in another room with no air flow. My clone tent doesn't have any internal fans, so it didn't look like it got blown around or anything, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on the other plants in the clone tent.
