Help me designing my grow room

Always pull through a filter...never push. Thats how they design them. Keep your fan inside the tent. (as far as noise, there is hardly a difference from inside or right beside the tent) In my kick ass picture its the thing in top area on the far right, attached to the sleeve thing built into the tent.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure with a dimable ballast you keep using the same 600w bulb. You just reduce its output.

As far as the veg area getting fresh air. It doesn't need it. As long as your expelling the flowering air through the veg chamber n' not letting it sit in there heating things up you'll be just fine.

Have you sent away for this gear yet or still in the planning phase?

Might be an option to go with a dimmable ballast in case heat will be an issue then. Have to give that some thought.

Still planning. Getting frustrated with just planning in my head though, but I want to get this right. Hopefully ordering in a few weeks.

Well I doubt you wanna hear it...but here goes.

For your first few grows why don't you consider using a 250w first? Growing weed isn't about the biggest light and all that other fancy shit. Talk to a guy with a 75w CFL grow or a guy running a 20k warehouse...its all about enviroment...not lights.

And instead of ordering all that shit in one bang, stagger it.

Preferably in this order 'cuz I'm assuming your growing in soil.

1) Seeds...or a clone if you know somebody.
2) Propagation...this would be peat pucks or a prop. tray with dome.
3) Tent
4) Veg Lights

Now assuming you cracked your seeds last week...the above mentioned would keep you busy for about two months.

Within those two months you'll have tried every scenario you could possibly think of as far as how you want to run things. And not shelled out a shit ton of cash figuring out things that might not work.

You'll be able to track things like your rooms humidity, growth and feeding of your plant(s), temperature and how you can minipulate it, odor control, cloning techniques,....fucking list goes on n' on really...

Like I said man, I'm not trying to discourage you. I just don't want you sitting around with a bunch of shit you paid for that ain't gonna work for ya.

I'll be around to help if I can. :tiphat:

Quick tip, a few 20 watt CFLs (about £5 each here for the bulb, wire and plug) really boost a grow space, they don't use mucgh energy, are easily positioned and moved and 20 Watt can be as much as 1500 lumens, for for 6 of those (120 watt) about the same as a starter CFL grow light it'll cost you less and you get 6*1500=9000 lumens compared to 7500 from a grow cfl and you can directly arrange them around the plant, also cheaper and easier to relace. Me and a mate started, him with CFL grow light me with standard cfl bulbs using beans germed together and kept together for the first two weeks, mine were 40cm tall before his made it past 10 cm. he's now chucked his grow light back in the box and copied me ;-)

You're right, I don't wanna hear it! ;) Hehehe

Seriously though, I've thought about that as well. But I've seen sooo many threads where people regret they starting small and upgrading very fast. Having ballasts, bulbs and undersized ventilation just sitting there, doing fuck all. Since I know I can't do anything in moderation, I know I want to be serious about this. As with any of my hobbies. I figured it's best to just go balls deep right from the get go.

That's why I'm thinking about the dimmable ballast (this one: http://www.head-nature.com/tree/400...c-Ballast-NXE-Lumatek-400-600W-dimmable.xhtml).

Buying things a bit at a time would possibly be beneficial, at least it would feel cheaper. But since I'm ordering from abroad it would cost me alot more in shipping (wich isn't cheap). Besides, I like to have everything working before I start. Setting up, doing some testing without any plants, and then, BAM! :)

I hear your advice, loud and clear. And you're not speaking to deaf ears, just a few thoughts about your thoughts :)

Just need to sort some things out then I'll pull the trigger on this. Hopefully I'll be able to make it work.

Thanks everyone for helping a newb out!

Place the carbon filter abov the light or in a upper corner o of the tent, opposite side of your passive intake at the bottom of the tent.Attach a small run of ducting to the open vent of your aircooled hood. You'll still be pulling air through the filter over the bulb through the fan out the tent. it is best to pull through the filter rather than blow through the filter as it is more efficient and the fans pull air better than they blow air.

Sorry for not replying to you, I appreciate the answers. Been hard at work the last week.

I'd like for you veterans to take a look at my list and see if I'm lacking anything, any opinions are welcome really.

Dark Room Twin 90 - 219.95€
Exhaustfan kit 355m3/h 125mm - 129.95€
Lumatek NXE 600W Electronic Ballast - 169€
Spudnik Reflector Prima Klima 125mm - 89.95€
Sylvania 600W HPS-TS - 29.95€
Tneon armature 2x55W - 63€
TC-L lamp 55W Growth 6500k - 7.95 x2

Grand total: 717.70 Euro or 923$.

What do you think?

Tneon armature 2x55W - 63€

Comes ready with bulbs, so you don't need TC-L lamp 55W Growth 6500k - 7.95 x2
You wont need to replace the bulbs for ages.

So to your problems...
It all depends on your hole in the wall... IF you can get a 160mm fan to blow air out of the hole you are all good, as long as you don't live in southern Spain.
Can you in anyway have your veg room outside the room, that would help a lot. If you could and you can manage the exhaust area [(16cm/2)^2*3,14]=200,96cm2 all you need is:

2*600W hps (personally I'd go with magnetic)
Filter
Fan Dual speed is so nice in the winter time, dont know where you live but here it gets realy cold and you dont need a lot to cool your 1200W
And hoods or cooltube. (they would HAVE TO be 160mm as well!)

Setup:
Filter--light--light--fan--out
Have the fan after light to minimize light leaking out your exhaust.
Best would be build a box around your filter so that the connection on the filter runs out, and you push air in to the box(needs to be airtight)
Then you go like:
fan--light--light--filterbox--out
and no light leaking out, kills noise to outside, but WILL be noisy in your apartment.

Pics of the "exhaust" hole/window would be great!

ONA

Hello again!

Different reasons made me postpone my grow, mostly due to money. But I think it was a good thing, have had alot of time to think about this and I might have come up with a different plan. I felt that the tent made me lose out on alot of space, as I said before. Not to mention it's an extra cost.

A friend then told me of ONA-gel/block. Wich apparently is a smell neutraliser, and apparently an effective one. Made me think, if that works, I don't need a carbon filter, if I don't need a carbon filter I don't need a tent, if I don't need a tent I can utilize every inch in that room. Joy!

Problem is, I don't actually know if it's working or not! Maybe someone can chime in here for a bit? Or maybe someone have another solution? If I indeed do need a carbon filter and a fan I do need a tent since I can't cut holes and such in the room. I do have a very small window in the top left corner of the picture. But I can't open it, it got a little venting hatch though. Roughly 15-20cm wide and when open the most it's 1cm "high". Maybe I can cover this up with a bit of plywood, cut a hole in the plywood and attach outgoing air there? But what about incoming air? Are the gaps in a regular doorway enough (when door is closed)?

I've also been thinking of what sort of grow I want to do. I've been set to do a SOG grow, been told it's faster. But that depends on how you look at it if I'm not mistaking. Sure vegtime is less, but bloomtime is the same. So if I would go with a bush style grow, I could veg plants in the same time as I got plants in bloom. Kicking off another bloomcycle right after harvest. So the same time for both really? Question is, wich way will give me the highest yield? Attached two pictures (piccasso quality) to give you a better view of what I'm talking about.

Either way, I will use hempy buckets. If SOG I'll use small 15x15cm pots. If Bush I'll use 27.5x24.5cm pots (~18L ~4.5gallons).

Lighting in bloom would be 2x 600W HPS and I think t5 flourescents in veg. Advice on reflectors and bulbs are much appreciated.

I'll stop here since this is already a freaking wall of text, hopefully some of you who reads this got the time and will to help a fellow out. I'll include your name in the credits! ;)

Thanks

Hi Lathund,
I've used the Ona bucket with a fan fitted to the lid. It's an excellent product and is very good ad dealing with the smell but I've only used it as an addition to a carbon filter.
I'm not sure I would be comfortable with just that to kill the smell. What about an Ozone generator? Maybe both in conjunction would be better?
Good luck & Stay safe :tiphat:
