Steady Smokin is right only use it during veg, for clones, transplanting,or to revive a plant it is great stuff I only use a drop per gallon. Dont use it in flowering it prolongs floweing or some shit. Here is a shot of my setup you dont really need much ventiltion for a 400 I just have a desk fan in there blowing air on them although another fan would not hurt but as long as you open it up a couple times a day it should be fine. I even got away with a 1k in there just had to leave the doors opened. Anyway best of Luck to you.

Put some gravel at the bottom of your buckets to get good drainage. I would say go hydro DWC cause its cheaper, 5 cents a gallon of water. Check out my setup.
I would remove the part where it says your from cali. I use a 400 watt and I have a little troubles keeping the temps down, but nothing my fans can't handle.

Sieze the night,

I have used "Supersoil" before and had bad luck with seedlings. But then I was (and still am) a complete noob.

I have also used "Hyponex" brand shit and damn near killed them before they were two weeks.

The lesson I learned is start with a good soil-spend the few extra dollars. You won't regret it.

Use your telephone and call yoru local nurseries and ask if they carry organic pre-mix soil. They may even have there own recipe they will sell you.

I myself use Kelloggs Patio Plus organic soil from Home DePot. It has all sorts of good shit in it (chicken, bat, worm). Its about 5 bux for a 1.5 cuft bag. I have had good luck. If you are in N. Calif/S. Oregon, you can get FFOF for about 8-10 bux a 1.5cyft bag. Less if you are on the coast.

Although I think I am going to add just a touch of ewc and high P bat shit.

Anyway-good luck.

medicaluser420:Hey thanks for responding. Will do on the Superthrive, thanks for the info. How big is your grow area, and hoes your ventalation? And like I've been saying I'm really paranoid about the heat i think it will jsut get to hot for a 400. It gets real hot here. I've already kinda planed on havin a fan in there to to strengthen up the plants and help circulation.

GotTheBlues: Thanks for responding. I was planning on putting an inch or 2 of perlite on the bottom for drainage, already got that covered, thanks for looking out though. If this grow works out all good my next grow will probably be a DIY DWC for sure. Just wanted to get some XP(experience) under my belt first, and a little more knowledge. Hows bigs your space and hows your ventalation? And thanks for the lacoation tip.

minds_I: Hey, thanks for responding. I'm goint to start in peat pellets that are activated with Superthrive treated water, and transfer to soil. I'll check out the otehr soils and see if FFOF is availible here. Will do a call around and check out the nurseries, and worse come tro worse i'll check into Home DePot for some Kelloggs. Thanks for looking out.

I have more questions and stuff i think about all the time but I have to go right now. Will get back top you guys tonight some time hopefully.

mines 5' tall, 2.5' wide, and 2.5' deep. My reflector fits perfectly in it. I use 2 regular house fans and my box is about 20 feet away from any window so i dont have an actual exhaust just good air circulation. Ill take some more pictures and post back

GotTheBlues: Alright dude sounds good. I'd like to see your set-up.

My seeds are here already. They got sent on wednesday and there alread here in Friday, that is some sick ass shot right there.

I'm so desperate to get this going I just scraped up all the 50cent peices and silver dollars I've gotten out of my cash drawer at work over time. There all hella circulated and shit so I figure there not worth that much money and if I'm going to spend them I might as well use them for somthing I really want.

Ok I've revised my plans again(any suprise? lol)

1. I'm going to check into Rapid Rooters tommorow, if I can get a package small enough/cheap enough, I'm gonna use them instead of Peat Pellets. If i can't work them into my budget, then its back to the Peat Pellets.

2. Local Hydro store has FFOF and Happy Frog soils on sale until the end of the month for 10 buck a bag. I'm thinking of getting Happy Frog cause its a 2cuft bag as opposed to a 1.5 cuft bag. Although I'm debating since i really dont need that much to start out with and from what I've read I have a lot less of a chance of burning them with the FFOF. Then again I havent heard of anyone burning anything with Happy Frog, just being careful I guess.

3. Gonna get a bag of perlite from Wal-ocaust, to use to mix with the soil.
4. Casa de POT, to get a 2 bulb 4ft t12 fixture. Should be like 8 bucks or so.

5. But then I need bulbs. I understand the difference with the kelvin temperatures, but I still cant decide what bulbs to get. Anyone with Flouro/t12 experience out there that has some suggestions? Or know some one that does that I can ask? I was just thinking about going the old school reliable way and go half cool white and half warm white. I've read that that is pretty reliable. Just not sure if maybe there is somthing better then that now. Plus I'm hella strapped for cash at the moment, and will probably only be able to buy a package of one type right now. Still better than none though, thats for sure.

Man I need to get this moved to the Soil grow section. Any suggestions on how to do that? Is there a way to do it myself, or do I need to get an admin to do it.

Well I think thats it for now. Any tips, help, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. :chin:  :yummy:

OK guys jsut got this thread moved here from Growroom Design & Equiptment. Just wondering if anyone has any comments or advice?

u dont have to worry about rapid rooters or peat pellets right now if u dont have the cash, just get small to normal sized dixie cups, drill 3-4 1/4 holes in the bottom and put a 50/50 mix of potting soil and perlite in there...done. I say 50% perlite because when they are seedlings the soil takes too long to dry out, and can easily get pythium or other nasties as a result...this mix pretty much eliminates that problem. Wait 2 weeks for them to root thru the entire cup and repot. Rooters, peatpucks, rockwool cubes, etc...are more a matter of convenience but not necessary.

Don't worry about foxfarms either...it's good stuff but yes...it can burn seedlings easily, better suited to your 2nd or 3rd grow. Shultz,sta-green,professional, pro-mix, sams club continuos feeding are all fine mixed with at least 1/3 but better 1/2 perlite. Just don't get anything miracle-grow, even thier perlite is saturated with chems. U get the benefit of adding what they need when they need it instead of a mix with all the nutes in the soil and u have no control over the nutes. U also get the benefit of more aeration = watering more often. Watering more often will make them semi-hydro and will result in bigger yields.

Colo: Hey thanks for the response. What kind of light is that? Also, what is the purpose of the botles in the shelf is the light tied up to that or what?

aeric: Thanks for the tips man. I actually came across a little bit of money so I think i got enough for a 2 bulb 4 ft 40w t12 fixture, a bag of FFOF or Happy Frog, perlite, and some Rapid Rooters.

I think what I'm going to do is get some Rapid Rooters, perlite, and some beer cups and get started that way. So yeah what do you think about the Happy Frog I've seen it used before but the medium mix was about 1 part coco fiber 1 part happy frog and 1 part perlite. I don't really have the money for coco and this is my first grow and I'm trying to keep it relatively cheap while I save up money. Although I've been able to save my tips and stuff so its coming together. I've heard that FFOF was good for seedlings and its wouldn't burn them. Maybe I was misinformed.
