Help invasion of the thrips!

Hey fellow growers, I have never had any problems with pests before until a couple days ago when I began to wonder why it was taking so long for my plants to grow. Under close inspection I noticed small striped bugs. I think they are thrips.

:badday:

So anyways I have decided to make a batch of death liquid from 1tokes thread http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=18473 I was wondering if thrips might be living in my hydrotron too. That spray is only for the plant right? Could anyone give me any tips on how to kill the thrips(if any) in the mediums and by the roots? Its a hydro system. THanx in advance!

i just notices what to me looks like thripes on my outdoor grow....!! sucks. I had them lastyear on my outdoor also...cept its real early this year.

I just went out and sprayed some Safers...I plan on spraying a couple times a week and I think i might give 1tokes recipe a try..Not sure if safers is good to be sprayin that much...or if it prevents them or just kills them...?

I'd go with the safers soap/liquid death for the plants and BT (aka Gnatrol) for the medium/hydroton by giving it a thorough soaking of it.

Neem works really well on thrips. You have to spray atleast 3 times over a period of two weeks to get them all though. I normally spray every other day for two weeks and then the little buggers dont have a chance. Most people think of a spray bottle when they hear spray . The right thing to do is get a deck sprayer and mix a gallon or two at a time and spray the plants till they are saturated then saturate the top cpl inches of the soil also. Repeat this multiple times over two weeks and you wont have anythrips. Most important part is to use a deck sprayer and really pump it up and spray the plants till completly drenched. A mix of neem and safersoap is a great mix.

Thanx for the replies, damnit I hate pests!!! I cant believe I got them, I believe they came in with some cuts I got the other month. Im not using soil guys, so how do I clean up my hydrotron? I dont really wanna spray it, wont it drip down on my roots? Wont that kill my roots? MTF suggested gnatrol so far thats the only thing I can think of, this is really my biggest problem.

THere are only 5 small plants right now and I dont have mothers of them so basically what im trying to do is fix the infestation so that they are able to grow somewhat normally. Thanx for all your help guys I really appreciate it-im so glad that there is still an online community of knowledge for everyone to beneft from.
Well im off, time to start the eradication wish me luck guys!

For hydroton, I would just flood it with gnatrol or BT (available cheap at HD as mosquito larva killer) and let it soak it up for an hour or so. There's no residual effects from it, so it's safe to leave the plants in there while you do it. I usually flood my hydroton with H2O2 between crops to disenfect any pathogens/critters that may have started to get going and it seems to work great.

Well I decided that I should know thine enemy and I looked at my little pests under a microscope. SPIDERMITES, I dont know if this is good or bad this either means I have both spidermites AND thrips or I just have spidermites, I will have to wait till lights on to make sure. I just sprayed and am waiting to spray it off with water.

Do I have to do anything different, should I still buy the gnatrol to flood the hydrotron for mites?

Thanx for your help mtf.
