*HELP!* Dryer Outlet to Standard Outlet

Thaniel, I'm in construction for 22 years now and I'm scared of the electrical stuff too. Believe me it's SAFER to pay the 95.00 an hour for a certified contractor. It will only cost a couple of hundred dollars at most. You buy the stuff he tells you to and he will most likely just charge you labor. Right guys? don't burn your house down and for god's sake don't hurt yourself. Sorry to but in but Thats just my 2cents. I hate electricty!

Vonforne,

There isn't exactly a phone number in the phone book for someone who is willing to work on my house and wouldn't care what is going on. At this point, there is nothing I could do about it.

SKELETOR,

I was only a bit scared because I have never done any electrical work before. I'm not a stupid person, I just had no information at all.

Thanks for the help guys... I'll let you know what I decide to do.

Why dont you set your ballast's at 220/240 and run a splitter.
I imagine they are multitap.
You can also get a small 2 pole breaker box and run a dryer cord to it and plug it into the outlet,
From the breaker box you would have two 15 amp 120 outlets.
That breaker is at LEAST 30 amps, if not 50.
You will not be tripping anything with 1400 watts.

capegrower seemed to have made things much more simple than I had thought. Everything he said makes sense to me, so I will likely go ahead and do that.

you could leave that 2 pole breaker in there and put in a quad setup ( 2 seperate duplex plugs in the same box) and put one hot line to each plug (black on 1st, red on 2nd) .then the 2 plugs could share a neutral and ground via a loop or pigtail. you would need to get a 2 gang box or a 1900 box with a double duplex mulberry cover (mud ring) this way he doesn't have to do anything in the breaker enclosure but turn it off to change his old dryer plug out.

If I 'am understanding this correctly....you have plants already growing and you need to pull 1400 watts? Correct? Wow. Maybe, you could go to Home Depot, Lowes and buy an electrical book and do some home research. It will be just as fast as trying to get the information you need waiting on someone to post the correct answer here. It will come complete with illistrations and examples. I hope this helps.

vonforne,

I'm running a total of 1800 watts light right now. I'm currently pulling this from 2 seperate 15 amp circuits. I really want to split this up to 3, because with my fans, canfans, and other blower, wattage is probably around 2300 out of those 2 circuits.

Thats is the situation. It's not really that bad.

ya I have the same problem. I went through the fuse box and found the breakers closet to my room. I do not use one bathroom down stairs. So, since I do drywall work and things like that, I cut some holes in the wall and disabled the lighting wire. Got the #'s off the romax. went to home Depot and bought the same thing. I have some wire nuts and I spliced them together(make sure you enclose it in a metal box). ran them through the "holes" that I made, to my room. Attached the boxes to the wall and wired my receptacle. there, one 15 amp breaker=1k light. I had one already= 2nd 1k light. Then I unwired the light in the room(which was on another circuit), went to the switch and removed the switch. Wire nutted that together and another 15 amp breaker= 8000 btu a/c(I added a double receptacle). I had numerous recetacles in the room=fans and carbon scrubber. Can you do without a light in another room? or something similar that you do not use? Just make sure it is alone on the breaker. You don't need to tap into your dryer then. And you can buy a book for 19.95 that will tell you exactly what to do. If you have an attic it is even easier. I had to do it in a downstairs. Completely enclosed and finished.

I would go and buy a cheap electrical book from home depot. Then if you have concerns just look at the book, Im glad I was able to simplify things for you, good luck.

Ya, and it will also tell you the PROPER tools for the job also. Which after re-reading this post no one else did. We have not heard from this gentleman for a few days. I hope he is alright. Skeletor was right about having a bad feeling about this.

I'm still here, I've just been to busy to do this yet. Sometime in the next week for sure. Thanks everyone for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Okay, now I think I should be good to go. Did I buy the right stuff? haha. If I disappear now for more than a day, something is wrong! In that case, please notify SQ of my disappearance!
