Hello all.

I am new but have been on the forums reading and tying to learn for maybe one year now.
I am slow learner, but I think im nearing the time i can try and make my own medicine.
I lack all knowledge on strains but I think i understand now how to complete the journey from start to finish.

Everything is so expensive now, i think its time to try save some money and start my own adventure trying to see if I can do this.
their is so much knowledge here, and hopefully with my 'Learner' plates on, I can ask for advice and also benefit from all the knowledge here.

I hope you all have a lovely day and week ahead.

Bye
Gigi

Greetings Gigi! To me there’s nothing greater than having your own plants to look forward to seeing everyday. Giving them life and seeing their progress. Then to literally taste the fruits of your labor is a rewarding feeling. Hope I can help. My advise would be to start small and work your way up. Also I notice there is quite a bit of used grow gear on Facebook market place and Craigslist, well at least in my area.

What strains do you like?

You're right, friend. The grow gear on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist usually comes from quitters who didn't put in a good effort.

Welcome into the fold Gigi, posting allways > browsing, means you can get your questions asked and answered, not just having to stick with the questions of others. For growgear it really helps to know where youre at, or at least which market (State side/Muricah - EU region - other...)

thank you all for such positive and kind comments.
i really appreciate the kind welcome ....:whee:
I am looking forward to this journey ahead of me.

My ex used to grow enough to keep me happy, but he is gone.
So i think its time i try. Its my own fault for I never pay attention properly.
He kept on telling me what he was doing, but i just kept saying 'ok' without caring to learn a new skill.
big mistake. But it also encourage me to spend most of this year learning from a grow book and reading of these forums. Now i understand a lot of what ive seen him do in the past years.

As i read the forums for nearly a year now without making membership, I think i have understood the assignment just about enough to try. now im starting to understand what half of his information meant.

I think soil is my safest bet until I really fully understand the intricate details, of this food strength ec stuff , the ph thing, how to spot signs of stress, and understanding how to master the environment for happy plants. i read soil is the most forgiving for a beginner like myself.

I dont know what I will try. I went to a shop today, and went to look at plant feeds, and got overwhelmed by so many types. The sales advisior started going into too much detail, and at a certain point, i told him i dont understand anything you are saying. it was too much information for me.

When I was leaving, one different person came to me outside, said dont panic about the nutrients information, and gave me some smoke , a phone number and said If i want cutting he will give to me.
Im not sure if i should trust him tho.
But also , im not sure I trust myself handling delicate baby seedlings too if i start seeds in the next week or two.
My questions are really silly ones, so i wont bore anyone here with them yet ;-)
One simple question i have is, my ex left many seed packets at mine.
it has been in a cupboard for 2-3 years now. Will they still work? or will they now be out of date?expired? do i need to put them in a fridge to activate them, or just put them in water?

On a brighter note, this smoke the stranger gave me is tasty. I should have asked what it is, but i forgot.

thank you all for a lovely welcome.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Stay safe everyone :)

Put the seeds in soak of water and youll see if they work. Normally the best is to keep them in the fridge to keep them healthy. I dunno about activating them in the fridge maybe aome one else can chime in. Easiest way to get help would be starting a grow thread and say suggestions are welcome. Good idea to keep a note book to add any relevant details everytime you check the grow, temps rh intensity etc. you need at least a temp/rh meter and a lux meter is really helpfull. Some say start with autos cause they just do their thing and you dont have to worry about light leaks and night temps so much. But if you mess up as you go along they dont give you the time to correct and nurse the plant back to health. Either way get growing, life dont wait for anyone. Only one way to find out. Another good idea is to get a plant for your flat just to take care of. Skills kind of transfer, or at least the habit of keeping a plant alive.

i think i will put some seeds in water very soon.

I have a friend coming to stay in mid December . She can help me set up tent, as the carbon filter is so heavy I cannot lift it up above my head alone. i need a pulley system to raise it i think..

I will make a grow thread once I have some confidence and the tent up.
My first hurdle is making the actual tent so its ready for seeds.
As soon as tent is up, then I will choose a seed packet to throw in water, and cross my fingers.

May I ask, when seeds are left in water to soak , how long would/should I leave them in a glass of water??
a day, a week or what?
If i time it right, maybe i can sprout seeds, keep them in a small propagator whilst I wait for my friend to come and help me lift up the carbon filter. Maybe I need to join a gym tbh , the carbon filter is the heaviest thing ive ever lifted in my life.

I usually do until they sink and dont float. Fiddle them a bit after 24 hours, to make sure its not a surface tension floating the seeds. Then either wet paper towel, propagator or into moist soil.
Gym is a great idea but dont so it just for getting strong, the mental aspect of leaving home to go to a place to real hard difficult shit for an hour or so is even more important. Doing difficult things make you better at doing difficult things.
Your carbon filter sounds like alot i imagine you wont have any smells:)

I germinate all my seeds in Dixie cups of new potting soil. Its the way Mother Nature intended seeds to germinate.

I made this for people like you brother.

Thread 'Nickles Advice for New Growers (Eco-Friendly Grows)' https://www.icmag.com/threads/nickles-advice-for-new-growers-eco-friendly-grows.18133361/

They wont let me update it. That's another thing you can expect. You may be arbitrarily locked out of your own topics.
