Hello ICMAG Community 😃!

I am an outdoor, amateur home grower located near the coast of a Caribbean island with a reputation for cannabis. Hot, humid, windy, 85F+ minimum daytime temps all year long. My daylight hours range from a minimum of 11h4m on December 21 to a maximum of 13h12m53s on June 21. Supplementing light hours with any kind of artificial light is not an option. I grow in full sun, in 6 gallon plastic containers with an equal mix of coco coir, perlite and good quality clay based top soil.

I have been a daily smoker for 20+ years but just started growing in 2022. A combination of high tolerance and lack of access to good quality ganja has led me to seek out seeds which will produce buds that give the wonderful highs I had when I just started smoking. I am seeking seeds that fit into three categories:
  1. Early morning smoke that is energetic and euphoric that mellows to an easy landing that allows me to continue the workday.
  2. Night smoke that clears away the stresses of the day but puts me to bed.
  3. Weekend smoke which is just good ganja and gives a long high.
Despite my short experience growing cannabis I have grown a variety of other plants for fun, food and profit for many years and I am always trying to improve my techniques. My first yield from an unknown bagseed was some of the best sensimillia I have had in a while.

I do appreciate your welcome and take to heart your recommendation regarding importing genetics. Bagseed from good weed I have smoked will always have a space in my grow plans. Please forgive the following rant but I have several considerations that have led me to seek known genetics from well respected breeders:
  1. Despite being renowned for good herbs my country is now overrun with hybrids. This story from 2020 goes into some detail. TLDR For reasons too many to mention, the classic unadulterated landrace sativas have become rarities. They have been supplanted by an untold multitude of cake/cookie/kush/etc. hybrids, many of which are not adapted to our conditions. A quick review of the menus of legal dispensaries here read like what I imagine any generic dispensary in Los Angeles would carry.
  2. For good or bad, the recreational industry has been legalized and the grey market is adopting the marketing strategies of the legal dispensaries without the associated growing techniques. During the "shortage" I got ziplocked baggies labeled WW and WC that were no better than the usual seedy stuff I buy in times of plenty except the price was multiples more. My usual dealer recently said he only had Sour Diesel for three times the usual price. Again, it was multi-millia ;) and quite forgettable with none of the characteristics of that famous strain. The only remarkable thing about it is that was the very first time he offered me a named strain. He is usually just "This s#$T right here, Brother:smoky:". In time, I expect techniques will improve to the point that sinsemilla is readily available. But then bag seed will no longer be an option. I want to get way ahead of that.
  3. I don't want to even imply that good ancient genetics aren't available here but the communities that are known to have them are notoriously closed off physically and culturally.
All that said however, I do take your point and will admit I have not used all my wits to find good classic seeds and will make a definite plan to do so.
Peace friend :smoke out:.

Hi @Ananas_Comosus welcome to icmag.

I was in your wonderfull country in 2015 at the high times cannabis cup. I met some very nice people and enjoyed the relaxed ganja culture there.
But i honestly think that the pollution with modern hybrids started decades ago. If u can find some authentic genetics please try to preserve it pure.

And we are all poorer for it. :(

I read that article and I was very surprised to hear about a ganja shortage in Jamaica, so now I understand your seed search.

Since you are tropical, you could steer towards those varieties. Ace is a forum favourite and strains like their Panama or Malawi or even Zamaldelica are easy to grow with great results and all would give you a nice sativa glow to start the day.

I appreciate all the Welcoming comments :thank you:.

@chilliwilli, I think you are right about the pollution. One of my next projects is to look into how I can best preserve seeds in my own little seedbank. We are opening up after that which shall not be mentioned. I am sure any place you visited in the before times would appreciate a visit now and maybe see some more on your wishlist!

@tobedetermined, as is always the way, I found Ace Seeds after I had already made an order with another breeder. I actually bookmarked some of their selections for my next purchases awhile back but just yesterday I went down a rabbit hole and the journey led me to their ICMAG forum and the happy realisation that not only are Ace representatives active and responsive in the forums but that ICMAG itself is one of the more mature cannabis forums I have come across. I emailed Ace yesterday for recommendations and they came back quickly with all the ones you mentioned :tiphat: plus many I had bookmarked and a few I had not found on my own. I can only legally grow 5 plants and have three going already so I chose a single pack each of Honduras x Panama Feminized and Malawi x Panama Feminized. I am excitedly looking forward to their arrival and the grow. In addition to being quite informative, whoever writes Ace' descriptions is a poet at heart. "Central American sativa effect of the highest quality. From a strong Honduran beginning: clean, energetic and euphoric, to a more Panamanian development: creative, dreamy and psychedelic." Now that makes me smile and want to take the trip.
