I used to do outdoor grows with my planting well spaced...two here, three here, 4or5 there... Leos find the stuff that is either planted in a large grouping or planted by someone doing stupid things. A poor sob that was growing less that one mile from me was busted because he put out a buncha white 5 gal. buckets to grow in. (D'ho)!! You could be as blind as Mr. Magoo and still see those from the air. I heard of another guy who planted in the soil fairly close to his house and was doing fine until he got lazy and left his bright red garden hose snaked around his plants instead of bringing it back in the house.
But...The most sure-fire way to get busted is to tell someone what you're doing!!! As has been stated in these forums...Two people can keep a secret if one of 'em is dead!
Peace and good grow!

yo bro check this out . im a pilot and i can spot most plants a mile away ..
you see when they look the first thing that gives it away is from the sky ...
it looks like a sucker on the ground.. i mean that there is a space cleared out (round ) and a dark green thing in the middle ...and a trail to it ..lol so it looks like a sucker from the sky...ok .. these ppl scan the area for that and then they also pick up on large patches ...now all ya got to do is go to a store buy fake flowers of the same color ...take the flowers off and tie them to the plant .... now a dark green plant with pink flowers on it ...so from the sky they will see a plant with pink flowers and they will say well thats not one ..and they will never look at ity again...i grow them in my yard like that in the back, but i have them close to honey suckles and have white flowers on them ..ppl come over walk pretty close to it and they never see it ...when it is in flower i don't walk around it with ppl .so i hope this helps ya

The heat sensors pick up the pots,

All day in the sun those pots get real hot, then at night when the ground is cool, the pots show up clear as day. Especially in rows or oganized plots. Put the pots in the ground, or atleast have them scattered around.

thanks joemutt that explains why they would use heat sensors  Everyone has it thru their thick skull that MJ plants put off more heat than other plants, and that really just doesnt make sense to me. But people seem to think they know whats really happening, so i just let em keep talking.

Hey Shopvac, I have some pix from a old book called "The Secret Garden" with pix of the different chromography of these plants, they do show up quite well!! This book was written in the early 80's late 70s too! So if they had the equipment they could do it. Most are just experienced spotters and good binoculars. In many areas the "other" plants are already changing colors and these are still very green, as well as a distinctive shape. Spotting trails from the sky is a dead giveaway as F2U said too! So just take enough time to "Think" first and don't rush your exit w/o covering it!

I live in Cali home of the forever flying helicopter. I had always wished I could grow outside in the beautiful california sunshine. Unfortunately the drama isn't worth it. People been growing out in the mountains where there's nothing and their crops are getting busted all the time. A friend of mine had a grow hidden out in the Ortega Mountains down by San Juan Capistrano and they got busted by some helicopters because some kids found the grow and got lost or something and there was a search party sent out to find them. Imagine that!!!

Ok, so what I've seen here is it's the trails that get you busted.....One thing I do is every time I go to my plants I go in a different way so I DON'T make a trail. I usually put out 15 or so, and covering my trail would take time I don't have with that many plants, each in a different spot. Badmofo has a good idea, but for me it would be time consuming. If each area you walk thru has 2-3 weeks or more to re-veg where you've walked, you'll rarely be able to tell you've been there. Another thing I like to do is plant on edges, say, where a field meets a forest. That way I can approach the plants from the forest side and there is not trail. The sun doesn't hit most forest floors so therefore there are no small plants to crush and make a trail. I still go in a different direction because even on dead leaves continual walking makes a damn good trail. Hope this helps. Peace. :canabis: TJ

i live in southern usa.not exactly a high grow area of importance.i am starting an indoor grow.i set my room up with exelent ventalation and a char-coal filter.i was going to vent my grow room and light exhaust through the roof out an attic fan.i am paranoid about choppers.they fly around here in the summer once and a while.we have military bases within 50 mi.the choppers are light blue.no insignias or markings.looks like the old veitnam choppers.usally has someone lookig out the open side door.i had folks tell me they are looking for crops.i lived in this area 5+ years.i maybe see this twice a summer.i figure that if i vent my room out a roof vent that if they have IR it will look real suspicious.i am thinking of just venting to the attic and let it disapate through the soffit eves and other vents to make it look natural.i spent money to get a good carbon filter.i dont know what this will do for the smell.i figure that if there is no smell this will be fine.if there is a smell,i may have to go out the roof.i live in the country, but the city is finding its way.should i be paranoid?

IMANIG, I'm sure there are peeps on here with a lot better advice than I'm about to give you, but you may also want to pick a low-odor strain. Best of luck to you on your grow. Peace. :canabis: TJ

Obviously this wouldn't be practical for large grows, unless you had a group of trained monkeys to water it for you.But if you only had a few,who knows.

JLP:)

Trained monkeys... Genius!

During the off season I could keep them busy working as tree toppers. Good tree climbers make $80 an hour where I live, so three monkeys would gross me $240 an hour. That would buy a lot of monkey chow. A lot!

If u r worried about oudoor plants gining off a heat signature then I would put soil in a hole in the ground instead of pots because pots can retain excessive heat. ganja is ussually darker or lighter than surrounding vegetation and that can make it a dead give away from the sky. if you use alot of polymers in your soil mix then watering is not required as often and you will not have to visit plants as often and create a visible path by walking over the surrounding vegetation all of the time
