Heat

If that 12x12 fan is quiet enough, I agree, you'll drop the temps 5 deg, maybe more. Just keep the room outside the grow cool. That will help things greatly. Just for drill, measure air temps at one foot above floor, and then at 5 feet above floor in the room just outside grow. In my apt there is a good 5 degree difference, floor air being cooler....as one would expect.

Hey stanky,

I usually have my ducting hanging down by the light more. Almost next to the lamp. Not sure if this makes a difference? I just try to pull the heat off the lamp asap.
Sounds like you need a bigger louver plus active intake.
Are you 100% sure you can't use the window? That air will be so much cooler than the air in your house. People install through window fans all the time. Difference is, you'd be pulling air in rather than pushing steam out. I know, i know, we dicussed this the first thread. lol
As others have said, portable ACs ain't that good. I wanted one til i heard everyones opinion, mostly negative.
Good luck.

Grownz has a good point about pulling air as close to the light as possible.
Too bad You can't incorporate the window somehow. One more thing You may want to consider. Spend that 124 bucks on a cool tube for the light instead of a bigger louver. That just seems a lot of $$ for a vent. :chin:

Good point on the cooltube. You can make one for like $30. That plus some 100mm ducting and you are pulling most of that heat straight off the bulb.

I agree that a cooltube would be a good way to help your temps. Sucking the heat straight from your lamp up into the attic. I can help show you how to make one out of a Pyrex bake a round if you're interested. It's really easy and pretty cheap. All you need is one of these and a few minor things from the hardware store.

Check out this link, it shows a couple different ways to make one for cheap, one way with a pyrex cooltube like I have or you can use a hurricane cooltube. Another option would be to buy one. An air cooled hood would probably be just as effective.

That or adding a larger, or a second louver would probably help like others have mentioned.

Well, Ive finally have eliminated my issues with heat!! (knock on wood)

I certainly went the expensive route with this issue :yoinks:

Hopefully everyone who reads this learns from my mistake..

The whole time i was worried i was not letting enough cool air into my grow room. But the issue the entire time was the temp outside of the grow room. The temps inside my Apt were too warm thus making the grow room even hotter :badday:

Anyways, this is what i changed in the room with cost.

First I added 8x8 louver to the base of my door- $30 -- Temps dropped only a few degrees- Avg. temp 86F

2. Added a 2nd fan for circulation - $20 -- No change in temp.

3. I went for the 12x12 louver/fan combo- $140 -- installed - Moves a good amount of air. As temps outside my house went up, so did my apt's.. AS well as the garden... Ave temp 92F - Outdoors temp - 82F Indoors - 86F

4. Had to get an window A/C unit. Nothing else would have lowered my temp's with the summer on its way. Window unit was best option compared to portable units. 5,050 BTU Wal-mart for $106 including tax- Runs 12hrs 18hrs when lights on and for only 1hr in night cycle. Will run 12hr when flowering and for 3hrs during night. All medium settings...

Avg. Temp

I think i want to get a cool mist humidifier but am having a hell of a time finding one.
I think ebay is my only option.

Total cost thus far on cooling = $296

I could have saved $160 bucks if i thought about my problem and compared it to the rising temps outside as well.

I didnt need the 12x12 louver/fan -- im not even running the fan right now. -$140

And didnt need the 2nd fan.. -$20

Anyways lesson learned.....

Hope anyone with heat issues reads this and can learn from it!!!

Later everyone,
Stanky
