i have a 24" 48" 60" tent, 250w hps, and a 4" vortex fan(directly on hps reflector and the reflector doesnt have the glass piece), also i have a small 5" fan for my intake and a 9" fan inside the tent and im having a heat problems. The highest it got was 99 but usual it is around 85-89. What else should i do? and\or Will it reduce heat if i got the glass part for the reflector?

Get the glass fitted, it will help in your situation.

Are you exhausting the air from the tent at all? If not, the glass won't help. Also, are you pulling fresh air in with the intake or just ambient air from outside the tent? It really sounds like you need to intake some fresher, cooler air or exhaust the tent.

Like skunkfunk said, get the glass fitted, move the vortex fan to outside the tent, (hot air rises, exhaust up high on the right, intake low left or vice versa) along with any air pumps, and your balast, if it is in there too. Lower the ambient temps wherever the tent is located, if you can. 5" fan? intake? exhaust should have the fan (maybe that 4" vortex); intake holes (twice the size of the exhaust) would be better passive.

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah the vortex is exhausting the air from the 250w and the tent. Right now the tent is sitting inside of a closest that isn't to much bigger then the tent itself and there is no way for me to fit a intake duct so i usually i have to doors open so get the fresh air in.

Also i will be getting a carbon filter soon and was thinking if i can have the carbon filter hooked up to the reflector with the fan sucking through the carbon filter exhausting the air from the reflector , will this be a good idea?

Can you leave the door open all the time? and how important is the smell factor? you'll work like hell to eliminate the smell. i wish there was a cologne that was 'eu de raw cut erb', love it. but that smell will getch busted, if yer not legal or doing it where it u aint upposed to be doin it. can you take the exhaust ^^^ UP? into an attic? or get air from below in a basement or crawl space? is there a furnace/fir place with a flue nearby that you can divert exhaust to? and what is the ambient temperature of the house?

I'm currently running a 2'x4'x6' cabinet that was custom built that completely fills the closet it's in minus some room on top and 1 side. I run a 6" carbon filter on top to a 6 cool tube with a 400w light. That system exhausts through a wall into another room, not the room the closet is in. There was heat problems early on when just starting the seeds with 8 cfl's, but that was before the exhaust system was installed and there hasn't been problems since. I would recommend air cooling and exhausting into a separate area. Make sure the second area is still relatively secure because you WILL have odor issues, even with the filter. I'm currently looking at switching from venting into another indoor room to venting to directly outside which should eliminate odor as an issue since there won't be time for an odor build-up.

yeah mine is getting exhausted outside the tent and closet into to the room its in. is there anyway to remove the smell completely?

A proper carbon scrubber will remove all of the perceptible odor, from the air that is run through it that is.

Is the outside the tent temperature that high? It seems like if you had relatively cool room temperature the inside temp could be controlled by just circulating the air enough.

It is around 75-85 degrees in the room\closet. its only gets really hot in there when the tent is closed. I think I'm going to get the intake to fit somehow. All I'm worried about now is the smell. whats the best way to eliminate the smell?

go down to your local glass shop and have them custom cut you the right piece.
im sure they will be able to very easily do so.

but yes i agree with most. the glass to seal the hood off is going to help out considerably.

Hey Dave. The fan / carbon scrubber I use would be the best deal for your setup. Small powerful and inexpensive. I'm using it for a 150w hps stealth cabinet on low.

Link is in my sig

Your extraction system will never be fully effective unless you have adequate intake air.
Could you cut a hole in the bottom of the closet door and fit a grille over it?
For odour extraction, carbon mostly does the job if you have the correct sized equipment for your space, but the addition of ozone in the ducting, after the filter will mop up anything that gets through the carbon. Carbon filters are less effective in high humidity so keeping the rh down is vital, both to the health of flowering plants, and the effectiveness of your carbon.

Hoods usually come with 'tempered' glass, they have to make it to size.. costs more... dono if there is a down side to regular glass, except safety, it is also cheaper.

Thats what i thought, tempered glass...i was thinking of going down to the local glass shop and asking for a estimate just to see what it will cost if i cant find it elsewhere. I also called two hydro shops asking for a sun system replacement glass and all they could get me was 12" x 12" tempered glass.

i was hoping to keep it as stealthy as possible...one question i had was, will it be fine with 20% humidity at flowering stage? if not, how can i bring it up?
