Hotels do not generally like smoking of 420, although you could fog up the whole durn place with rancid - carcinogenic tobacco residue, and no one would care, except your neighbors from California...! ( I would be that person ).
A window open, even in winter, a chair by said window, towel covering the often subtantial opening at the bottom of the front door.
Use a pipe or bong, joints fog up the place, this is key... Low profile, they do not like us to have loud pot parties. In fact, they are aware that we enjoy the Marijuana, and The Nederlanders certainly appreciate the revenues that we bring, but would like it if we would be a bit more discreet with our herbs, etc...! lol
The Dutch, even in Amsterdam, tend to be a whole lot quieter than us Amerikans can be, and thus, sometimes they would prefer that we would just shut up and enjoy the moment, instead of go off about how good it all is. Especially in a quiet coffeeshop where people are having private convos. In the US, many discussions are listened to by anyone within earshot, lame.
The Dutch sense of propriety about quietude is a way to deal with the crowded conditions in Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general. Good on 'em for utilizing and effectively implementing a system of unwritten rules which work a whole lot better than ours do.
I rented an apartment for 3 weeks, and kept it quiet. The artist-woman downstairs (who I thought was cool) never suspected, I guess, that I was there for the Cup, and enjoying it all. Because surprisingly, on my last day, when she came in to the apartment, and saw my last pile of grinder-ed herb, next to a plastic bong, she kinda freaked out, never suspecting it before, and made it plain that I was not welcome back...... Not all Dutch, or even Amsterdammers smoke 420. By NO means. Do not be surprised when they are surprised...!
So, the towels under the door, and all that DID work. Communication works better, but I would not have gotten the canalview-studio if I had discussed it, and no harm was done, for sure. lol
Note, also, our wake-&-bake sessions particularly bug 'em..... They just can;t fathom why we would do that.. But we do, and do.
