hey tyler, you can play hd games as long as you have a hdtv, (this is what ive jus read)
but some tvs require a lead/cored that you can pick up for ~£10, dont know the usa cost.
Most tvs you can jus plug the 360 in and start playing (making sure you switch to hd on the scart cord thing that you should already have...you kno what i mean.

Im jus curious if i can play 1366x768 pixels (the tv i linked) on the 360 and get a better picture or not.

Someone must surely know a lil bout these new hdtv, or even play in high def one hdtv.

anyways, i cant really find much on the web so im hopeing someone will shine some light.

hd movies sound so good..oh and obviously the games.

peace

i'm planning on buying a 1080i 40" Samsung anyday now and I have the same questions..what do i need to hook up the xbox360 for HD? what about xbox and ps2, are they able to do HD? if so, which cables for those?

http://www.hdtvorg.co.uk/reviews/lcd/samsung_le40m87bdx.htm

I beleive xbox has its own calbe you can buy to connect it to HDTV. Mostly you will need component cables, dont fall for the sales person trying to sell you monster cables. They are very expensive and really arent worth the money ( I found out the hard way.

The cost of HDTV isnt where they get you, its all the cables and accesories. I spent a good bit on my TV ( 60' Sony Grand Wega) and ended up buying this $300 surge protector, a $200 remote, $500 on TV stand and another $200 in cables and $200-$300 on cables.

Before buying a TV do alot of research, there are alot of differnt resolutions that TVs come in. Also alot of calbe choices to make as well. I learned tht by going and buying directly from dealer ( sony) instead of best buy i saved a ton of cash. The TV i wanted was $4000 at best buy and circuit city and was $499 for a 2 year warrenty. I called sony and got the TV for $1000 less and got a warrenty for 5 years for $299 with free delivery and set up. so check with the manufacturer before dropping alot of coin in the store

yo man...

check out avsforum.com - answers to pretty much any question you can come up with is there... they have specific forums for gaming, tvs, receivers, etc.

I put a lot of research in before I got my stuff. Try to maximize the number of HDMI ports(for scalability) ,and go 1080p if you can....

I got a sony xbr46 in lcd 1080p (1920x1080 pixels), denon 2807 AVR, PS3 and a DTV HD DVR.... the HDMI makes it so simple to hook up. I have one HDMI connection from my PS3 to the AVR, and one HDMI connection from the DirectTV HD DVR to the AVR, then just ONE HDMI connection from the AVR up to the TV. It doesnt get any easier than that. Audio and video all over one cable.

Now I dont know if Xbox rolled out HDMI yet, so you might have to run component like nevermind said... either that or you might be able to run VGA form the xbox for video, and optical from the xbox for audio... dont quote me on that config cause I dont have xbox 360... but I think I did read the VGA and optical is better quality than component... AND you must check to make sure that the TV you get can accept 1080p over component or VGA, some can only do it via HDMI... so if the xbox hasnt added hdmi yet, you may never get the full resolution of the HD drive unless your TV of choice can accept 1080 over component or VGA... Gets confusing huh....check out that link it's all there. all this shit can boggle the mind... especially when adding an AVR to the mix... but for passing 1080p over HDMI, the denon 2806 is probably the best model for the price... I have seen no flaws... and believe me if you read reviews for the units out there, there are a lot of nuances that can get annoying.

so long story short, do your research on connectivity, or you may find that you purchased a TV that cant display your content in it's finest form.

avsforum.com

sorry for the long winded response... I just went through this and it is possible to maximize with a little research.

edit- also check out cnet.com for product reviews... it can be helpful. Also, you might want to look at Vizio... they have good quality for the price....

M. steelers is right, AVS forum is full of useful info. You can find best connections and even get the best settings for your TV. HDMI is by far the easiest way to hook things up and its a very good cable. Some calbes make shit so hard to hook up and HDmi solves that one. whatever you do dont buy those 24K gold calbes. they make no difference what so ever and are just something the kids at best buy try to sell you. they make commision for all the junk they sell you.

Best to go to AVs and read up on what is best Tv for the purpose and what cables you will need. If you just go int a store wanting a TV yo uwill get sold something you may not want. But if you do your research you can find the TV you want and then look for the best price for it.

Yeah, good advice Nevermind -- it's amazing how much money you can save if you put in the work. Literally hundreds.

The denon 2806 is an audio video receiver, in it's simplest form its just a receiver that powers your surround sound speakers if you choose to go that route... but when you really employ it it becomes the brain of the whole home theatre operation... all connection points from TV, DVD, DVR, Gaming, CD players yada yada yada terminate in that and then it simply passes one cable up to the TV... all video and audio over one HDMI cable... you can go higher or lower on the quality side, for my purposes it was the best one in my price range... there have been a lot of issues with people trying to pass 1080p through a receiver up to the TV... with some of the Onkyos and pioneers people have seen occasional picture flashes and other minor annoyances.... The denon is a workhorse, I've seen no issues... and it's "future proof" (look that up on avsforums.com) meaning that it can handle all the way up to 7.1 surround and it accepts uncompressed linear PCM audio tracks.... which are basically the best you can get, supposedly better than all the TrueHD surround shit people are rolling out.... LPCM has no compression and is just incredible... plus most importantly the denon can pass 1080p accurately.

I gotta go or Im going to miss my plane... i could rap about this shit forever probably!

hey guys.
Okay i found and jus bought "Samsung LE23R71BX HDtv" and i checked it out and done all the research i possibly could then brought it. It looks like a really good tv, sounds good by the reviews i read, and it works on the 360...thank god.

GET THIS!...i went to one site at first and nearly bought the same model for £434.99,
then the site fucked up an i suddenly got redirected to this other site by accident, and guess what the price was....."""""""£364.99""""""!!!!!...i was like fuck yeah!!...and nearly fainted.
I paid an extra £14 for next day delivery.....im not waiting 5-12 days.

Anyway, this is meant to be a pretty good tv. "THE MOVIES"...."FORZA 2" and all the high def stuff. Not the best you can get, but something for me to do tomorrow seeing
as ive got 4 weeks off.

I wonder if pirates of the carribian dead mans chest is in high def or better picture quality Hmmm. That movie kicks ass i really like it.

when i get it tomorrow ill tell you if its any good.

quick note; im stoned. Has anyone smoked sage before and has it ever kept them up for like 24 hours strait?...seriously, thats what im like now, almost delusional, and high, with.. tiredness( but not sleepy) undertones.

thanks for the info and stuff guys really appreciate it.

take it easy.

Given the time of day you ordered it, the order may not be processed until tomorrow, and weekends may not be included in next day delivery, so it could be monday now GM, could be a frustrating weekend this one lol.

yep avs forum has lots of good info. spent ages there when looking for my BSTV. Got a nice sony unit.

I think the 360 maxes out its resolution at 1280x768 or 720p. It will downscale a 1080i pic but there isn't that much material around atm. And I think the Xboxis component out... is that right? No DVI or HDMI?

I dont know how xbox works but I find a lot of pc games dont support widescreen or 16:9 format but most of the really good games do. I think things like graw and such are widescreen compatible. If they dont you just get the game in the middle of the screen with big black bars at the side.

Full screen with some surround sound is amazing..., am just replaying HL2 and its pretty impressive even for something a few years old now.

good luck with you search... haggle hard and get a good deal. maybe get extend warranty and cables and delivery...all in

At the end of this year they are going to release a new version of HD tv that uses laser light which produces better picture than what you see today if you can wait if not

Look for connectivity the picture you like best and most of all a 1080p resolution

The picture does not get any better than 1080p but you must have source to play that resolution such as blue-ray.

If your just out to get something cool to play your xbox 1366x768 pixels is good but you have to think of the future
