I think the people that say it are using it in a racist manner, but most white people I know ignore it and laugh about it later.

While I have seen the racism and been around people that think they own the islands, I didn't come across any of it the week I was there in Feb, it was just a party week for pro bowl.

Lesson one, grasshopper,

Ha'ole is "without breath"

The foreigners could not speak Hawaiian, hence had no breath.

Even though all who were not of the culture were haole, the word has come to be used for white by many/some.

Akamai Kama'aina know better.

When people say to me DAMN!! you so lucky you live Hawaii huh? I say sure depends on your view.
Im almost %100 Irish, so I sympathize but only so far. My people know it all too well, but... The racism is ridiculous and unnecessary. I agree there is plenty of white people that come here and wipe there ass but sorry thats all over the world and throwing that aggression misdirected with racism included is small and NO ALOHA.. Im so sick of it. I get stink eye and all that non-sense when I go out, not all the time but when I go to other areas that people don't know me.
I had sent some people a remark I read on a travel site warning people. ON A TRAVEL SITE... Here I found it...
"The tourist trap is that no one born and raised here on Oahu likes any of you haoles (white people) even though we have to cater to you to keep up the number one economy booster here in Hawaii. Which is why we have to come up with atleast some tourist traps. Just to let you know that if we had our way we would outlaw having all you haoles from ever visiting these beautiful islands that we call home, since all you do is pollute and destroy our land for your stupid golf courses and your unused mansions. It is known around the world that if you are haole and you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time in Hawaii be prepared to get your face rearranged. A Hui Hou.

Don't act like you are special and deserved to be catered to by everyone just because you shelled out a couple grand for a plane ticket.

No Ack"

I have never seen such beauty in all my life in regard to the scenery and a small portion of the people. When you do find nice people here they are genuine and thats rare..
Whatever really, like always Im carrying my torch in the dark. I give Aloha regardless because I feel its beautiful and these Islands are magic. People make it tiring but Hawaii really is paradise..
If you come to Hawaii read some about here and try to leave no footprint. It is the US but not all at the same time. You'll avoid most of the nonsense and get a glimpse of heaven. Aloha!
All the best,
RO
