without water vapor CO2 would heat nothing but the tiny fraction of atmosphere that is CO2. it does not heat Oxygen or Nitrogen or the other fraction that consist of trace amounts smaller than CO2.

Seeing how they are now compering the global temps to the 1850-1900 average, how many temperature recording stations were there between 1850-1900 globally for them to have any idea what the global temperature was then.
