all day everyday smokers are no problem on the job, it's the person on their 4th buzz who gets too baked and becomes a hazard.

the recreational users are out there making us stoners look bad.

Ive managed kitchens for years. Everybody knows 1 of 10 cooks will pass a DT. Kitchens are dangerous places. We've wrapped up some serious wounds and turned our head while the victim slid out the back door. And "went home and cut their damn finger off"
One of the other chefs sliced his hand open early one morning, after a long night. We were both still drunk! When the staff came in asking where he was, I told them he shit his pants and had to roll.
My last place the gm and I had discretion to dismiss one failed DT for a workers comp claim. We kept that info between us.

Teens through early 20's I worked high in a restaurant along with most of the kitchen staff.

The job I have now there is no way I'd be able to work high.

My feeling is that there are probably some jobs you can get away with it and some you can't.

When I was young and did jobs that didn't matter. No way today, I feel like I would be ripping off my employer. They do pay me to be at my best... everyday! If I was under the influence that would be pretty shitty on my end. But hey to each his own.

See the thing is there are Many kinds of workers here. There are farmers, artist, engineers, you name it.

Some people can handle it at work and others not so. It is no disgrace either way.

Anything I do at work is in total moderation and in amounts that slightly alter my attitude, not make me fall down on my desk and rub my head. It is not much different than taking a Xanax or a pain pill in these doses. In fact a pain pill would be worse indeed. My job involves social skills and creativity. If I was operating dangerous machinery it would be different.

haha! :) of course..

I'm always high, so if I'm at work.. Guess what? I'm high!
I once got caught by a security officer at the site I was working smoking crack. We looked at each other and fortunate for him, he calmly ignored me and walked back out of the toilets.
Done every drug going at work..

Nowadays I just smoke weed like Tony Montana sniffed the yay

One Love to all the fellow ex-addicts who know what I'm on about!

It's funny you says "Addicts"

As with my doctor saying, "Everyone is on Something" I know a lot of people have problems with prescription medicine. They may get some from the doctor, but buy more on the streets and they use the prescription in their pocket to back them up. Pills can mess people up just like hard street drugs and alcohol is even worse. But I am not judging. We all name our own poison at any given time in our lives. I try to not drink so much. I have beer and wine in my home and office but only drink on occasion, not because it is there. I take pain pills in access at times, but they mess with me in a way that is not worth it so I try to stay away from them. The only thing I have seen in my entire life that adjust my attitude without any bad side effects is Cannabis, and that is why I am on this site.

Now I run a chainsaw most of the time, I take a refer break on the hour. but never drink before while running the saw. save that til the sun starts to set and all that's left is splitting.

But I do anything high. I did a lot of public speaking and demonstrations in front of large crowds, and that was the hardest. but i don't really like that shit, and if i didn't puff, i think my heart would beat out of my chest.

When I cooked I was high and or drinking most of the time. Now if I'm on some mind numbingly boring task I'll puff, otherwise I'll wait until I'm off work.

small weed buzz is ok for working and often helpful, if the job requires serious focus and concentration I'll wait until after.

I used to smoke before visiting the optometrist so that the prescription for my eye-glasses would be appropriate for my normal state of being.

Some jobs require weed.

Some jobs require weed.

Wow!
It's true, chemically, we are as different as our fingerprints.

When I worked as a high tech troubleshooting consultant, I smoked Sativa heavily.
I was the "orphans" tech. If there was no manual or TS chart, it escalated to my bench.

By the time they called me, several linear minded techs had already thrown in the towel.
That's the beauty of sativa.
It enhances non-linear thinking.
I was able to see the problem differently thanks to that.

I made a reputation as a guy who could figure out anything.
But, unbeknownst to them I had a special tool. :D

Also.
In my youth several of my friends worked for NASA.
They were ripped to the tits most of the time.
They were highly regarded and well paid.
2 of them did the critical math for the Apollo mission, flawlessly.

I do avoid "heavy machinery", not for competency worries, though. :)
What CAN be a problem is impairment of immediate memory.
When working with tools I keep forgetting where I set them down and the bench gets messy, fast.
So, at least for me, cannabis enhanced my performance on the job.
With a minor downside.

YMMV! :)

That is so true, and there were 11 seeds in it. That is were they got the Apollo 11 Strain

speaking frankly of course, having never been high at work - i kind of feel silly saying that i sort of knew someone who we think maybe smoked pot on an irregular basis.

not sure.

I used to go to work stoned when I was a machinist. But the only person I was risking was myself. The job I have now I operate heavy machinery surrounded by many other people so I stay sober. Although I know I would be fine going in stoned, I want to have a clear conscience if a major accident does happen. Accidents do happen after all, sober or stoned.

Aside from someone getting hurt the worst part for me would be the automatic drug test required after all accidents. Injury or not. The company even has their own clinic with a full time medical staff.
