Has anyone got intentionally wrong advice?

I’ve been getting some very off the cuff answers about growing. Things like not needing carbon filters just burn incense and just get some manure and dirt from tractor supply company. It seems like the person telling me this is laughing behind my back. Anyone had this feeling?

The only time you would consider using advise from a single person is if they have the growing experiences to give you advise. If its sounds iffy it prob is. Someone will try to help. If someone ever posts blatantly bad advise a mod will help. Keep in mind this is a public forum, there are trolls so be cautious.

Most people here are happy to help. You might get differing opinions, and even bad advice, but I've never seen anyone intentionally giving bad advice. Repeating questionable methods and theories yes, but no outright bullshit. That gets corrected pretty fast.

I can't say that I've ever been given intentionally bad advice but there are a lot of people who believe some crazy stuff. As it's been said "get more than one opinion" and do some research you'll figure it out. Good luck!

I have not seen it happen here. Such things could only happen in private messaging really. If incorrect advice is posted on the board somebody else is always quick to reply with their own thoughts on the subject. The only play is to ask a question, then weigh up the opinions of a few people. Taking note of how many might of thought it helpful.
We don't know who everybody is. Only that we all wish we knew more.

Rookman, who is this person? Which username?
Can you also post some links to that particular advice? Or make exact quotes?

You're also still at the Newbie level here on the forum, which means it can be through Personal Messages system because that's not activated yet for you. I have read through all the posts and threads you've made. And I'm having trouble finding this 'advice' you say that's directed to you.

Assholes are everywhere. If someone tells you that something sounds like bullshit say "Sounds like bullshit to me."

#1. Don't tell anyone you're growing. They'll break into your house and steal your shit.

#2. Stop asking people on the outside about "how to".

#3. If you must, go to your local grow shop and ask them.

#4. Come here first for answers. You'll get them quick.

#5. Spend some time reading the threads on here. Chances are good, you'll find an answer to your question.

Good luck.

Hey you don't need carbon filters... while in veg with only a few seedlings . Ya see what I did there

Tsc soil can be a cheaper alternative . Properly amended it can and will blow the doors off the 40 dollar a bag full of gnats hydro store stuff.

Good to get several opinions , don't overlook tips from conventional gardeners after all we are just growing a weed. I can't see anyone giving you bad advice intentionally.

Only regrets I have with growing is that I didn't start sooner in life.

^I need my Carbons during veg for even only a few seedlings... else it stinks up the entire place and I would also lose a major part of my air exchange and things might go stale. Mine smell already during veg, not just during flowering.

What do you mean with TSC soil?
I looked at their website. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/catalog/soil
Are you talking about those Miracle Grow potting mixtures or the ones from Scotts? Lol.
Why would you say it's better to buy one of these and then still needing to amend it? If so, how much and which amendments should we use on those Miracle Grow / TSC potting mixtures to 'blow the doors off'?

Up until now I never had a Gnat issue with buying the branded hydro store bags. I did however with 'cheaper' alternatives. I'm not saying that the branded bags will always be gnat free. But please don't say that cheaper alternative bags are gnat free or will be better managed on that point by the fabricator...

I've seen gnats and even harmful nematodes in premium soil mix bags. And I've had good succes with cheaper alternatives. It happens. If you want cheap.. and you are using proper nutes best soil is the lighmixes they sell for young plants at the home improvment store. Add some perlite or vermiculite to that and you get great results. That is a good base for amendments as well. But those aren't really needed if using proper nutes when watering.

There's many, many ways of growing. As other posters have mentioned, MOST on IC do want to help you have a successful run.

Some strains are stinkier than others....carbon filters can help. Not really fond of incense near plants. Plants absorb environment while growing. Knew a friend that could tell if someone had a swamp cooler (AC) while growing. Now that's a nose!!

this is probably happening somewhere else and the person probably is trying to be helpful as its not competely absurd advice. i can recall someone telling newbs they had molybdenum deficiencies all the time and the person would be like "really?" and the older farts would just ignore them and answer the questions. it was kinda funny the first or second time i read it but after the fiftieth time it was more than old at that point. but in order to be some sort of joke or prank, i think it would have to be completely obvious to older growers what is going on and someone would call them out or reply with legit advice. i try to wait a little before responding when asking for help to get a couple replies first. cheers

I personally have not had that happen. Everyone in the group has really been helpful. I can not stress read, read, read as much as you can and with the knowledge you get here will help you very much on your grows just my two cents.
