Harvesting

Hi

I am looking for some advice on harvesting different parts of my plant at different stages..

It's virtually ready for the chop the top cola buds are milky cloudy and amber at about a 90/20% ratio however the buds on some lower colas are only just starting to turn milky cloudy.

Is it safeels at this stage to chop the finished colas and begin the drying process on them whilst leaving the lower colas to mature more? I'm worried about stressing the unfinished buds and making it them go hermie.

Thanks for any advise.

I would wait for the majority of them to turn amber a la 90%.
Patience is def worth its weight in gold.
Not sure about the staging, but peeps will share fo'sho .
Good Luck. :joint:

You not wrong with the patience I rushed my 1st and was a bit disappointed but not rushing this 2nd grow.

So you are advising me to wait until 90% are turning Amber before I start chopping? I guess by that time maybe 1 -2 weeks the lower buds will have had chance to mature a bit more.

i usually harvest in stages, starting at the top and working my way down
it does not seem to cause undue stress and the lower buds seem to enjoy the added light

nice!!

at that size i would jsut harvest the entire plant and set aside the smaller/ lower buds as sample buds to smoke while you wait for the tops to dry.

that is a tight little set up you have there
i like how you are able to stagger your lights

Cheers! I tried a bit harder this 2nd time round the tents only a cheapo small 60x60x160 or something just enough space for 1 plant, I'm planning on getting a 120x120x200 grow room in the next week or so.

I'll continue to use CFLs as they are quiet dexterous and can be hung around and manipulated pretty well although with a bigger room I'll deffo be addeding a few more CFLs and some side lighting.

I think I am going to wait a bit longer maybe a week at least and let those lower colas mature a bit more as there is only a few cloudy trichs then hopefully I'll have some nice stuff after drying / curing.

What signs apart from trich examination do you look for?

I've noticed she's not drinking lots anymore and the remaining healthy fan leaves are starting to withe and die offor she's generally looking near finished to me.

Their definitely finishing up ..they stopped drinking than that's a good sign the plants are telling you its time to harvest...in my opinion you should wait until the soil dries up a bit more then cut em down...plants are on the small side but your resin production is very impressive

I gave her it's last watering yesterday morning she's getting no more, struggled with Temps over last week as we were hit with a heat wave but managed to keep below 85f, it's cooled down a lot now so hopefully the soil and plant won't be too dry when I cut it on friday as I don't want the drying stage rushed.

Cheers for all the input

Meow......

IMHO a lot of it has to do with just plain experience and/or the strain.
I try to gather up as much useful info from this forum, breeders...etc
Foliage color turning (Which I enjoy), the fore mentioned water intake...

As pop_rocks mentioned previously, I failed to mention originally, I just wait and cut/hang the whole plant.
For me it's more convenient and less stressful.
Cut, hang.........wait.........wait a little more.........BLAZE !!! :yay:

Ha ha patience is what I lack most....so I feel you.
I like to use the 24-48 hr darkness thing too.
Then str8 to hanging for 7-10 days or however long it takes to dry.
And then curing a bit ..... or not.
Enjoy your buds. :greenstars:

Ohhh belive I'm trying my hardest to be patient but I chopped my 1st grow too soon and was highly disappointed I don't want to feel that again with this 2nd but also I don't want to leave it too late... some mind bender right there.. haha

Signs she's ready (I guess)

Not drinking no way near as much as she was 2 weeks ago gone from watering every other day to once weekly.

Large fan leaves died off and smaller ones following suit.

Buds

I'm seeing mostly cloudy trichs a few amber's and clear. (I think)

And it's that I think bit that I'm afraid of.

This may help!!!

This may help!!!

How many days into flowering (12/12) are they? I'm getting close to harvesting my first grow as well and have been asking the same questions and doing as much of my own research as I can. I found this really good article from Hightimes and I think it's the most informative (easy-read) article I've found yet.

http://www.hightimes.com/read/key-points-harvest-time

I hope it helps. Good luck with your harvest!!! Let us know how it turns out. Cheers!
