For my birthday, celebrating a night early, we went to a spectacular venue in London, called the Royal Albert Hall, where we had 2nd row seats to see:
DAVID GILMOUR
'The Voice and Guitar of Pink Floyd' show!
The evening started out with dinner reservations at The Victoria Dining Room, a very ornate restaurant located within the hall and of course Gypsy ordered a bottle of champagne, my favorite tipple, along with a nice organic salad and chicken pasta dish which was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious.
Our seats for this event had been secured since last December, so we were well placed at stage level, first stalls, in the 2nd row stage left, to be able to view the show fully. The acoustics were excellent and Gilmour's guitar soon had the audience in la-la land, although I was already there from having toked a HUGE spliff which was almost all kif (hash powder) from the bottom of one of Gypsy's stash boxes. It was all very romantic with me dressed up in my finest clothes. I was just going to wear just jeans and a blouse like most rock concert goers do, but Gypsy insisted that I doll myself up and get the stockings and heels out. LOL I felt a bit out of place so dressed up with 70% of the audience males and quite a few of them kept staring at me with a sort of cheshire cat grin on their faces.
Have never seen them live, but grew up (as most of us in that era in usa did) to their music. Although there was no Roger Waters in this show, it was awesome just the same!
So, back to reality today from the celebrating. What a show...David Gilmour clearly proved his skill on 8 different guitars (including slide). There was no repeat surprise David Bowie appearance (he was there the night before), that must have been an opening night thing only, but Nash and Crosby were on stage most of the show doing background vocals. Full laser lights and strobes for Crazy Diamond and Comfortably Numb just about brought the Royal Albert Hall down!
As we looked around, and Gypsy said to me, 'hey...look at who all is here attending', it became obvious that most (at least 90%) were over 40's....gee I suddenly felt old. What a nice birthday present though, I've always wanted to see this band and even without Roger Waters, it was an evening I'll forever have memories of. Thank you Gypsy!
Here's a tiny segment of the gig, Gypsy took this clip on his mobile phone...I hope you all like it. Old Pink got to listen to some of the songs via the mobile phone all the way over in Amsterdam as we called him a few times during the concert and left the line open for his listening pleasure....yikes, international mobile to mobile live concert link!
Cool!!!! Gilmour and crew put on a hella show, and in my opin, are missing nothing without Waters! glad ya had a good nite,I'm still not over the fact I'm in my forty's,but time marches on!
