growtent GOOD experiences

I'm not referring to the smell. PVC is unbelievably toxic. It's true, I don't know anything about what has been going on with these tents but I just starting looking at them to buy one and I noticed that they were PVC, so I flushed that idea.

People get sick from PVC all the time. People die from PVC so I don't know why it would be good to put your plants in a box of PVC. For the love of god people, don't use PVC
Give me a minute and I will get some definitive evidence(I'm guessing) that links these plants dieing to PVC

Peace all

This is some random cut and pasting

Greenpeace:
A recent study concluded that a child's risk of bronchial obstruction was related to the presence of PVC flooring in their home or nursery. The researchers concluded that phthalate plasticisers in the flooring could be responsible. PVC floors release the phthalates DEHP and BBP when washed. Such releases, depends among other things, on the frequency of washing (estimated at 1-5 tonnes per year in Denmark, for example). Smaller quantities may be emitted into air and consequently cause obnoxious smells . The technical life of vinyl floors and wall coverings is at least 15 years, but their full life is not always used. Softeners, primarily the phthalate DEHP, can make up approximately 20 - 25 percent of vinyl floors, and between 10 - 30 percent of wall coverings.
PVC is thermally unstable and cannot be used in products without stabilisers, which can include lead. Dust containing lead can been released as they degrade in sunlight. Lead can affect the nervous system and the reproductive system in low doses. Lead in PVC miniblinds was found to pose a significant risk to young children in Canada. Approximately nine percent of the childhood lead poisoning cases in North Carolina are attributed to this PVC product.
Alternatives: Natural materials such as wood, bamboo and metal are all suitable alternatives to PVC.

Greenhouses and coldframes - Corrugated PVC sheeting is often used as a cheaper alternative to glass for greenhouses and coldframes.

The phthalate DBP is a component in PVC glazing strips in glasshouses. Some work completed by the Institute of Horticultural research in Wellesbourne, UK, has shown that as little as 200 picogrammes DBP per litre of air can kill plants.

They argue that a variety of glasshouse plants have been damaged on a worldwide basis since the 1930s. Greenhouse glass and safety glass, when needed, is the best alternative, although this is more expensive.

^^Agreed, but I wouldn't necessarily believe what Greenpeace says.

Also, no, not all grow tents are made with PVC.

I have a few HTG tents and just got a secret jardin and they all work fine. I didn't air my HTG out at all and everything is going very well.

^^You sure, it says on their site that it is. That, and Tony told me it was when I spoke with him. Hmmmm....

Ive got a Secret Jardin Darkroom DR80 and absolutely love it. My HH mini was toxic so it didn't work out for me. They are well made, durable, non-toxic, and come with a nice carrying case when disassembled.

I think it is safe to trust Greenpeace

Since I know alot of people in Greenpeace, I am trying to get their studies on PVC and plants. They told me I could send them one of the Tents that is believed to be toxic.

sorry teacher...
anyway i dont remember ever having a word with u about it.
...the inside, the white material, is what has the tag. the outer is nylon.
black outside = nylon
white inside = polyamide.
period.

LOL.

Like said dude, nylon and polyamide are the same thing.

What is so difficult about that for you to understand?

Again, you're spreading blatant misinformation.

here is how HTG describes tent. notice 2 different materials, only they say it's PVC when it's really polyamide:

This is a multi-purpose indoor growing chamber. The exterior "skin" is made of super heavy-duty black ballistic nylon lined on the inside with highly reflective weather proof ultra-white pvc plastic. The "skin" also features commercial grade oversized sewn in zippers for easy installation and easy access to your garden.

believe whatever u wish:)
as long as my plants are not yellowing i really don't care what it's made of.
