Nice work. I think it is impossible to get anything proper without lights and greenhouses around your latitude Anyway, that's not an Outdoor according with the current standards and I got tricked by the thread title.

Keep with the good work.

I wouldn’t assume that to be all true, I have in the past flowered and harvest in around Clayoquot Sound, 200 something plants grown in the ground from clones with no light dep and or greenhouse. They go all the way till end of October but the genetics need to be solid otherwise mold and PM eats your flowers at end of September.

The legendary Texada Time wrap a Sativa dominant cross bred and grown around where I am flowers with out a problem but its not a pure line.

You are right about not being able to properly finish a 100% Sativa line like the ones I have but we are working on pheno selection and acclimatising the genotype; we believe that within phenotypic plasticity there is room for a Sativa dominant line to accommodate a fast flowering trait, despite taking multiple generations and its obvious that the phenos need to be exposed hardcore to the conditions.

We have several environments and one of them has 6 phenos in ground and will finish there with no added light or roof to protect them from the elements. To really test a gene pool they need to be exposed to the elements.

Last year I was able to do open pollination completely outdoors, one of our moms (Dutertes Nightmare a filipino equatorial sativa) lasted until mid November and had snow on it. We know how much they can last outdoors, but indeed we need a light source to finish the flower.

We didn't want to trick you into believing anything but what we showcase, we are growing outdoors in 3 separate environments; one set has phenos in the ground with minimal to no human interaction, our other environment is outdoors in pots to be moved inside a greenhouse at the end of October/November, our other environment is from seed in a greenhouse all the way to finish.

We aren't orthodox in the way we do things, what we don’t have is a Sativa line inside a grow tent under lights; We are starting to test our linages indoors now, working with a peer in the US that has skills and mindset to grow these phenos under lights.

We will be updating every week; stay tuned.

Nice work, your efforts really deserve a successful outcome.
My personal opinion? I don't think that much effort is really worth it, since you could grow and properly harvest anything you wanted indoors, but if you want to take the plants to their limits and you are OK getting a punished semi-outdoor version, that's legit and I wish you a nice weather and good luck this season.

I’m keeping an eye for early monoecious flower trait, as this is a poly hybrid and down the line there was a Mexican male not stable. This line originated from a Montego Bay skunk or also just known as Jamaican female crossed with a Mexican male rather unstable, in other words wasn’t a true male.
So far running this gear 4 years under somewhat same conditions haven’t seen a hermie population.

To further stabilize this line, I am looking to add a fast flowering variety but I am not in any rush to find a candidate, it will come up eventually.

The addition of the DN male to that mom gave us vigor and great side branching F1s but nothing changed in terms of flowering “faster”… or adapted to this natural photoperiod 49n is tuff on Sativas but not impossible. Just takes time.

Thanks, don’t get me wrong I can run this gear indoors too and I will eventually because I can’t grow outdoors during winter so much of my planning is done indoors pretty small space.

Part of the extreme conditions I put thru my phenos and I do HST all thru veg. Plus they get to be pounded with harsh west coast fall rain… I’m looking for hermie traits caused by stress/genetics. Lots of natural stress in the outdoor environment. I can always have a cutting and flower them under lights in a tent but I wouldn’t be able to replicate weather conditions in a tent to give the stress I am looking for to see how much the linage can handle before or if even hermies. So far I haven’t seen a hermie population and im happy about that.

I've also been actively breeding for years, but I cross and select indoors for effect, and after selection I grow outdoors. I don't stress my plants nor put them in difficulties, these I grow aren't for Northern Europe.

Check my threads about Taskenti and "breeding for the best stimulating effect"

Good luck and sweet smokes

Sweet brother I like checking what other peps can do with this plant. Will read your threads.

I have grown for possibly a decade, was growing in Montreal during prohibition but I started crossing my own around 2013 been working since on building up my line; I always open to pop seeds from underground genetics I feel that’s where the real flavor and high is at. Connoisseur stuff you know what I mean.

The stress part is mostly to see early hermie traits. When I grow indoor it’s flower and since I am not commercial, I can allow myself to not grow cash crop and focus on the plant and genetics more than yield.

I feel one has got to have a clear goal when breeding, and strive to achieve those goals.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Wolf - Just found this thread - and am following with great interest. Early sexing and early finishing would be a great boone to all of us outdoorsy types!!! I am just above Lake Simcoe in Ontario and grow outside but in moveable wheeled tubs and start moving them back and forth into a greenhouse as weather dictates. No extra lighting tho.
I admire your dedication!!! I'm pullin' for ya - keep yer stick on the ice!!!

Appreciate the love and much respect for growing it as well. Buzzd you in Ontario how’s the seasons around there for ya? I visited farms in around Hamilton really awesome for growing outdoors or even semi sheltered.

Do you apply light dep by moving them in and out?

I have done light dep before around mid July to get a late September, but it was lots of work… if I could get anything under 100 days without compromising the Sativa line too much. I rather chase a fast flowering hash plant than a indica; just referring to adding a fast flowering trait to the line. I love Kush but not for this project.

I started using a simple Dutch Durban “fast flowering” 80 days and I skipped the indica pheno and have a rather Sativa dominant f1 now I’m checking on them flower times; the durban mom finished flower around October 30 th.

But I thru in DN male last year and it’s a pure line slower to flower but not impossible. These flowers are without shelter.

I’m also looking at a SLH I have going great stem rub unfortunately a female but I have something to play with.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hey Wolf - for some reason this year my squash and peppers and some tomatoes have done poorly. The weed has done fairly well, I think.
I haven't done any light dep by moving them. I only move them into the greenhouse for wet or cold weather in the fall once the buds are well under way.

This Duterte’s Nightmare male is gonna be hitting each of these female phenos pink kush, super lemon haze “indica pheno”, and Jamaican Irie x Duterte’s nightmare F1.

3 different females with different flower times. I would like to introduce the male side branching and overall plant structure to these females.

October 11th

We welcome the wet conditions, and ready for the fight. Enhanced immune system based on a Willow tree fermented tea foliar treatment (salicylic acid), also a phytohormone responsible for plant health and immune response to biotic stress.

This pheno is our F1 cross from 2022, we are stoked to see her shining and standing strong. Still need more time but showing 💯 percent health and determination for a clean finish.
