Growing in rental houses?

I wouldn't do this. Police can go and ask the owner if they can search the house. The owner probably will give them consent because he figures "he's got nothing to hide". Then the cops come don't need your consent and can arrest you easily. Do yourself a favor get some property, then do what you want.

I'm taking everything into context but some people don't have any other options besides renting, and I think a house is better than renting an apartment.

Would you all be worried at all even with a small little stealth closet grow? I've read that many of you have had people near your grow op without them even being aware of it..

I've only read the first posts. I like to pick landlords, I tell them straight up "I like my privacy" . If they can't comply with that, I move on till I find someone that does.

When you rent, the house is yours. You can tell the landlord to fuck off if you want. I repeat, its your house.

1. Make sure you don't live beside any cops, look out for cop cars in the driveway.

2. Don't rent near a busy road or anywhere that will have a lot of people walking past.

3. Always burn your growing rubbish, never throw it in with your household rubbish.

4. Never grow in an apartment.

5. Never grow near a school

6. Change all your locks

7. Pay all your bills on time

8. Always take care of your yard, cutting the grass, picking up rubbish.

9. Might also be a good idea to have kid's bicycles and toys out the front
of the house to give the impression of a family living there.

10. Use timers to turn on household lights if you don't live at the grow house, change the on/off times regularly to avoid suspicion.

11. If you don't live in your grow house then don't drive your car to your driveway, neighbours get aware consciously/subconsciously of your behaviour patterns, if they see you drive there and drive away, not come back for a day or 2 then they will get super suspicious.

12. Have great odour control and try and stop any heat escaping from your grow room where FLIR can detect it.

13. Be on the lookout for condensation visible from passers by.

14. If growing in the attic during winter look out for the snow on your roof melting while everyone else in the neighbourhood's isn't.

15. Try and rent from an estate agency as having a relationship with the owner can be damaging.

16. While renting make sure you tell them that your last landlord was a pain and demanded inspections every 2 months, this is an easy way to find out exactly how they deal with inspections without looking suspicious.

And the number 1 rule

NEVER TELL ANYONE ABOUT YOUR GROW

The landlord cannot give police consent to search the house you rent from him under any circumstances, except if he lives in the house with you. It'll get thrown out of court as an illegal search.

If you decide to do it...just cover every angle and be smart. You need to make everything appear as "normal" as possible. Should you decide to grow out of a rental...do it well and accept the possibilities of what could happen and don't let the worrying get to you, it will consume you. Good luck and peaceful grows.

Friend got visited with Search Warrant and keys from Landlord.
then claimed to have just turned the backdoor and they came in. Smells a lot inside? Gone.

If they had a search warrant, what was the purpose of having the keys and landlord?

79towncar- That is not true. Renters have rights.

When you sign a rental or lease agreement, you effectively become the 'documented owner' (for lack of a better term). That is, you have all of the rights to privacy and consent, as though you were the owner. Police or anyone else cannot enter without your express permission.
If you don't have a rental/lease signed.....well, you just gave away your right to privacy.

If it did happen, a good lawyer could have the charges dropped because of illegal search and violation of right to privacy and rental agreement.
But I'm 215 compliant, and have an 'absentee' landlord, so no worries here.

** edit: hkush- whoops, didn't read your post! Sorry to step on yer toes.

Also, in California they don't even have to announce their entry, They say its because then we will have time to flush evidence. If they have a warrant then they are coming in: landlord or not, the door is coming down

around here there are allot of houses that are "rent-to-own" "owner finance" "2,000 down move in". these are much better options for the grower than a rental. rent-to-own beeing @ one end of the spectrum, it costs about the same as renting but your deposit is your down payment. you still have a landlord but he is looking @ you as a purchaser, so no unexpected visits to sell the house or make mprovments, thats your job now. owner finance is the best option cuase you are outright buying the house, but it usually is more expensive, but you are considered the owner of the property as long as you are making the payments on time(no landlord). i think they both have the benifits of a rental but none of the problems

I just got into an owner finance deal where i paid 2500 down & 900 a month. if i ever have to get out, i will only lose the 2500 i put into the place & i NEVER have to worry about a landlord.
