Growing In Coco

I've had problems in the past with poor soil and lack of nutrients. Was considering a hydro grow, but if you get caught with Hydro here in Auatralia you're considered a comercial grower and the courts throw the book at you if you get caught. Plus it's a little to complex for me atm. Like the old saying goes "learn to walk before you run"

To elimintate any nute or soil problems I was going to grow in Coco. I'm told this is the next best thing to Hydro as it allows Oxygen to reach the roots. But it's also very well draining. Should I mix Vermiculite with it?. If it drains real well should I water more often? i.e once every second. :chin:

Hey New Holland!

I'm sure you're heading in the right direction, mate. Poor aeration is the problem number 1 for most soil growers and many if not most of them don't know that.

From where I'm standing I can tell coco has just the right texture and is good when mixed with perlite and wc. However, I would love to find something with similar texture to replace coco - the reason is that it is a bit on the acid side and I don't like relying on dolomite lime. I would otherwise just mix coco with wc and be happy, I guess.

If you guys know of something that is or could be ph neutral and is similar to coco, please, speak out.

Coco is great to grow in and should be ready to use when you buy it you dont need to add anything for ph and i wouldnt add vermiculite.i like to add a small amount of perlite and some clay balls in the bottom of the pots.
If you can get it which im sure you can in aus then get Canna Coco and nutes..peace

Hey Dr. D! Could you please tell some more on that. Do you mean -when- using Canna nutes or anything? Or do you mean Canna Coco would not lower my mix ph (perlite+wc+coco)? Just want to suck a bit more info outta you, mate. Thanks!
