growing from seed without germiation

I just planted my seeds into fox farm ocean forest soil and I had a question.
When growing from seed without germing do I need to have my lights on before they even sprout or do I turn lights on after they break the surface?
thanks for the help

Peace

I usually make the root split through the shell via water soak before I plant them, H2O's all it takes, but if you're gonna germ them in soil turn the light on and place something like a baggie with holes in it over the container to create humidity. the light will add warmth which is essential, but not too warm. good luck dude! - i inhale

thanks for the advice. The reason Im germing them in soil is because I got mandala seeds and that what they say to do on their website..

I followed the Mandala site as well with my Satori and Kalichakra. Sowed 10 Satori's with 9 out of 10 poppin. And Sowed 5 Kali's with all 5 poppin. Didn't use a dome, plastic or anything for humidity just misted every few days and had no problems. What Mandalas you get by the way? :joint:

I got hashberry, white satin, and the safari mix. All Im gonna grow right now is 2 or 3 white satin because I have extremely limited grow space. I hope the white satin truly is very low odor because I have no filter...

Mines a CFL grow and so far so good. As far as smell mine only smell when I rub the leaves and boy do they reek of catpiss. The same with my Sour Cali (Sour Diesel x Trainwreck) ones do the same. Only been outta the soil a month but all looks well. I'll try and post pics tomorrow. Be safe and happy growing! Have a good one! :rasta:

I grew out 30 mandala seeds on my first grow 10 white satin, hashberry and mandala #1 and I followed Mandala's recommendation on germination and I got 30 out 0f 30 to grow. I had a shop light with 2 t8 bulbs over the seedlings which were planted in plain Fox Farm Light Warrior in 16oz cups and watered with RO water. I put the shop light on an 18/6 schedule after I saw the first couple seedlings sprouting out of the soil. I believe I've read in some other threads that fox farm ocean forest is a little hot for seedlings so if you have problems it could be that. Best of luck to you on your Mandala grow I think that their genetics are a steal for the price and also very hardy and forgiving to any mistakes. Keep us in the loop on how it goes.

Your soil will provide the darkness. A reasonable amount of light will provide warmth. Once they pop, get your lights as close as reasonably (*) possible to prevent stretch. Reasonably being not so close as to cook your girls. It depends on the type of lamp.

Yes they should be fine in the FFOF, although I mix mine with some Light Warrior and Perlite as well. Ocean forest on it's own is a grown-up mix but I don't think it's the end of the world, just keep em wet and warm. If you're using fluoros you can keep the light a few inches away and they'll be fine. This way once they pop there's no confusion as to which way to grow. Mandala beans are great... most of them will be about an inch tall a day after popping. Here are some Satori and HB babies that surfaced about 36 hours ago.

The only modification I've made to Mike's suggestions is letting them sit in water overnight before planting them. I've found they take real well to the soil this way and my germ rates were a little higher.

thanks guys..
ripOG those seedlings look good.

Im just using a couple CFLs..Im not expecting much from them due to lack of light, but I just want a little homegrown.
I'll try to keep this thread goin as they grow

Hey Urkle!!! Any of them kids of yours pop yet??? Mine took almost a week to do so. Straight into the soil like Mandala's site says. Maybe thats why they take a while. More mother naturish..... Keep us posted. I'll gonna start a thread on mine so I dont take up all of yours. Sorry if invaded your space with the pics....!

Funny you ask because I was just about to make a post..a little baby popped up last night! yeee..no more staring at dirt waiting for signs of life haha...i messed up the other seed I had planted so I planted another one this morning. I hope they both turn out female since Im only growing a couple but if not I always got more seeds.

smokey~no worries man your not invading space at all, I was drooling over those pics you put up :)

I'll keep everyone up to date with what happening, and if anyone has any help/advice they'd like to share Id be grateful

Try letting them sit in water the night before you plant them. They should sink to the bottom at some point. Mix the ocean forest with some perlite and if possible some light warrior or miracle/jiffy seed starting mix (basically just peat moss). Fox farm recommends using the light warrior alone with seedlings, but the mix works well too. Wet the soil before you plant them and they should pop by the next day. :smoke:

I often germinate my seeds right in the good old red 16oz. Party Cups found at every kegger in the all the lands...It works fine.

Edit: LoL. Jebus I'm HIGH! That makes NO SENSE. I mean I also put soil in those cups along with the beans...magic beans. :jump: :jump: :jump:

I don't think it smells too much unless you bump the plant. Here's a couple shots of a couple different phenotypes of my White Satin so you know what you've got coming...
