Growing by your self sucks

Let me introduce myself, this is my 3rd season. NorCal suburbs grower. Just trying to learn and talk to some like minded growers. Keep entertained while we grind out this 2016 season. I'm 100% organic frower. Custom soil build, some compost teas and IPM. Thats it. I pulled 20 lbs off 6 last year in 80 gal holes last season. This year I popped 7 different beans for a total of 35 beans popped and got gifted 3 cuts. Germinated in middle feb and planted 4 last weekend. Been on 16 /8 for about a month. This year is going to be 150 gal holes and allot of knowledge applied from this last off season. Enough of that though. Let's do some pics.

I've got planted a Pwerple, xxx og X alien kush, a plushypinez witch is plush berry X with gdp and a rugburn og. I have a blue berry headband, blue dream X GDP, sugar bear from IRC, a sour strawberry kush, space balls, and sour trax that will be planted when sunburn goes away.

Can yall keep some good vibes and company rockin this way? Lol. Appreciate it!

I'm noticing the's journals a very in depth. So I guess I'll carry on. Beans were popped in solo cups in a 5x5 on a 8 bulb t5. We're they stayed up until last week. They were transplanted to 1s till sexed and then onto 3 gallons. From there they are getting put into there final 150 gal holes and caged for some minor LST. I had mixed 1000 gals of soil by hand last year and added another 300 this year. Plants got hand watered and a few top dressing of mixed soil when needed. When planting I watered the holes and chased with with 5 gals of EWC tea to get some good microbe inoculation going. I'd like to run drip systems as I'm a working man and travel allot. I'm kinda sketchy on them, maybe I just don't trust them. Holes are 45 inch wide and 20 deep. Any info on how to run drips so my ol lady could just turn the valve for me would be greatly appreciated.

A drip system would make things easier if they ran perfectly.

But some drip emitters probably give more water or get clogged
after a while. So fine tuning the system would have to be done
regularly I bet.

In the end hand watering is the only sure thing.

A large pool with a pump in it that your old lady could make sure is
full all the time with the pump on a timer would probably help a lot.
As long as the pool doesn't run dry. Maybe, a float switch attached
to the pump so it turns off when the pool goes below certain level
would be cool.

Just fill up the pool and wait until it warms up and water away.

Thanks for the vibes man. I've never done indoor. Lol. Outdoor seems more chI'll then indoor. Scares me to to try it and for that I commend the fuck out of indoor growers. My anxiety is way too high to stress on playing god lol.

Blumats are the whip! Since you are growing in the soil you could run plain water through the blumat drip and not have any clogging. Get the Blumat Maxi if you decide to give them a try. I wish I tried them sooner! Best of luck my friend. Your plants look good!

What's the reasoning behind the pool? Thanks for the response!

Never heard of this. I'll have to check into it. Thank you.

The Blumats sense the moisture level of the soil with a clay carrot like probe. Keep a reservoir above the soil line and gravity creates pressure to deliver the water. When the carrot drys a lil it creates a vacuum and let's water flow. When it is moist it stops. The plants water themself.

Hey OD thanks for the thread :tiphat: In Australia we / I am so far away from the bud you guys have access to so... props and keep up the good work man. Satisfies my curiosity on different strains etc and gives me confidence in ordering cheers skirby PS your grow log is spot on

Almost sounds robotic lol. I'll check it out. Thanks

I'm all about automated irrigation. It's way easier to figure out a way to monitor your watering remotely than it is to find someone to water reliably for you. Time saved from watering is well spent on IPM, plant support and pruning.

Systems do fail, worst failure I've had is rodents that refused to drink from the water I left for them and ate irrigation lines like crazy (could use all hard PVC)Most problems stem from improper designs and filter cleaning. Neither one takes much time or effort.

Microsprayers are way easier to notice problems (visually and even audibly). I've had good luck with emitter tubing from netafim as well, I even ran nutrients through it.

As far as remote irrigation monitoring you can install sensors from irrometer or possibly webcam pots or foliage. By now you can probably spot the wilted top of dry plant easily. You could also just have someone check it, even text you pictures that way you know they were there and everything looks good.

Yields have been great for me with irrigation as well, I do this for a living and have pulled more weight since I started using irrigation. Big plants can even get a short afternoon water when it's hot. They love it.

One other learning curve was learning to cut back the irrigation schedule in the cooler fall weather, it sneaks up.

Looking good, nice pull on last year's crop and good luck.

Right in man. Thank you. I'll def be checking into an irrigation set up. More time with my family is always appreciated too. Do you use reservoir for your water or straight from tap? Your located out in El Dorado yes? Pretty local to me. I'm in Sacramento. Thanks f I r the info and happy growing. :tiphat:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention before. If you do use a reservoir, pool, etc.

Make sure sunlight doesn't shine in it directly. Otherwise, algae
will eventually start growing in it and make a mess of things.

Cheers. :tiphat:

Yeah man, I like straight out of tap. Simple works best for me, little chlorine hasn't bothered me yet. I'm thinking about installing a good filter. I have a well on the property that I need to investigate develop.

Often when I do consulting for people that adjust their PH, I check their meter calibration and it's 2 or more points off and there is no calibration solution on site. I've trashed some many PH meters over the years, tried to keep em wet etc. I'm really happy to see them gone from my garden. I'll use strips if I need them.
