im planning on getting some sour 60 seeds sometimes soon and was wondering if it was possible to grow them indoor with CFL since I dont currently have the money for good lights

sorry if this is a stupid question

I have 6 Sour 60 fems under 234 watts of cfl, in a light I built myself with some spare junk I had laying around...all it cost me is the bulbs. About 40 bucks. So far, they look great, and are keeping up with if not looking better than the 2 girls I have under the expensive, high tech LED. There are 2 65 watt, 5600 K bulbs, and 4 26 watt 2700 K bulbs.

Just finishing up a grow of a Russian Rocket Fuel momma under 149 actual watts of CFL. 2x42w and 1x65w all on a powerstrip, 2700k. She has nice looking buds! So yea, I think CFL's are just fine for a small indoor Auto Grow.

You are going to see more stretch with the CFL lights then the LED's.

Don't want to hijack this thread but is it recommended to switch from 6500k bulbs to 2700k during the grow or can you just stick with the 6500k's? Or perhaps add 2700k's during flowering?
Thanks!

This is my auto bumper. I have a 4 foot by 4 foot with 1000 watts for the larger harvest, but this set up is all florescent for my auto bumper crop. Three yellow spectrum cfl tubes, two blue spectrum tubes, and three spotlights that are yellow light all taped to the bottom of a plastic shelf. total of 180 watts not including the additional sunlight that comes through the window every day. The plants in my current bumper crop are Snow Ryder x Himalayan Blue. They are on 18/6 since planting. They're five and 1/2 weeks old. I've got nine flowering females between 5 one-and-one-half gallon grow bags. They're growing so fast that I've had to raise the lights 4 inches in 3 days. I raise it by putting cans of cat food under its legs - each one raises it by about an inch and 1/2. When the seeds are not feminized, I put 2 seeds in each dirt container. That's why I have 9 females in 5 grow bags. I usually end up with between 5 and 10 females, or just 5 females if I used feminized seed. Every time I do this, I get between 25 and 60 grams. I have a 750-watt space heater and a small fan to insure proper temperature and air flow. Any questions?

im having a little trouble with the whole lighting situation. non of the bulbs i have around the house say color spectum or much else, they just say gives out 75 watts, uses 15.(this is what the CFL spotlights i have say)

when Im adding up the watts am i going to want to use how many watts it gives out or how many it uses? Is there a specific amount of watts of each light spectrum that should be used? thanks for all your help! im getting excited about this project!

I can have it in the open like that because I have had a doctors recommend to use medical cannabis since 1996 when it became legal to do that here in California. I have been busted twice since 1996, and both times the charges were dropped when they contacted my doctor and verified my prescription. As long as I have a copy of my prescription paperwork in the window the cops and neighbors leave me alone. The razor wire and 24HR surveillance keeps the hoodlems from stealing my crops. :dance013::whistling::nanana::ying::muahaha::party:

You want some "Cool" aka blue light spectrum aka "white light" not warm spectrum for sprouting seeds, but when they start to flower you should add in the "warm spectrum" lights that are yellow spectrum, or gold light. The total yellow light during flowering should be double the blue light. For every 30 watts of blue light you should have 60 watts of yellow light - approximate . This is the best spectrum mix I have found for auto floro. For the under side of a shelf I recommend 150 to 250 watts total.
When you count to get the total watts, I recommend counting the watts used not the "watt out put". You want the highest light output possible on the under side of that shelf.
Tube style floros are usually blue spectrum, unless you go to a hydro garden supply center and request yellow spectrum tubes, most places can order it for you. Spotlight floros are usually yellow, I dont think I have ever seen a blue one. One way to know for sure is to get the lights together and have them on for at least 15 minutes to let them warm up, then look and compare, and you should be able to see the color difference. The blue spectrum looks like white light, and the yellow looks golden sun-set light.

great thanks so much for all the help. Im gonna go looking for the lights in the next few days hopefully. where's the best/cheapest place to buy these lights? like home depot or hydro store? I would imagine a hydro store would be more expensive

and Im not worried about people. I gotta a doctors rec and the layout of the house makes it perfect so nobody would ever see it.

im a bit confused b/c it seems like you're saying start off with just blue spectrum tubes and when they start to flower add the yellow spectrum spot lights, is this correct?

your post with the pictures said it had 2 blue spectrum tubes, 3 yellow spectrum tubes and 3 yellow spotlights. is this because you specially requested yellow tubes? could i just use all spotlights for the yellow spectrum and tubes for blue?

and it looked like you were using the yellow lights before flowering or were those pics flowering

All of those pics are autos in bloom period - about 1.5 weeks into bloom. They have grown 12.5 inches since then - 23 to 24cm. The hight of a coffee can and a can of cat food. - or at least the most vigorous of them.

I started under 3 or 4 blue spectrum "T-5" tubes that are 2 feet long. Each is 24 watts. Those are usually only available at a hydro shop, or a hydro shop should be able to order them for you, and you usually have to order the yellow spectrum T-5 floros from a hydro shop. I am now running - after bloom starts - 2 blue and 3 yellow T5 tubes, along with 3 floro spotlights. The floro spots are yellow and each is 26 watts. these are available at wallmart, or lowes or home dePOT. MAKE SURE YOUR SPOTLIGHTS ARE FLORO, DO NOT GET REGULAR SPOTLIGHTS!!!!Regulars put out too much heat and can kill your plants or at least stunt thier growth. With the floro spots you should be able to see a floro spiral tube inside the spot. All together it adds to 198 watts.
Before flowering starts I use only blue lights because too much yellow on seedlings can cause a higher numbers of males - or so I have been told.
Yes you are correct, start with blue and add yellow when flowering starts.
I did request the yellow tubes from the local hydro store, but I suppose you could use spots for all of your yellow.
