Grow Tent Setup

your filter needs to up in the ceiling of the tent also . it not only draws the stink out .... it draws the heat out too .... & heat rises & collects in the ceiling of the tent . with only 1 light cooled your going to have some heat build up up there that needs to be sucked out of the tent . i also didn't see any intakes . you need double the intake of your exhaust size for passive intakes . 6" out 12" in ... or if you have a fan forced intake ... a 6" intake would be fine .... but make sure its not stronger than your exhaust !!! negative pressure is what your going for to recirculate the air every couple minutes .

Thanks Dansbuds. I had the filter mounted up top as well but the SJ support rods were flexing. Do I have them installed properly? Am I pushing the tent too much with all that weight? How could I configure it so that the rods support the weight better? I was thinking to mount the filter directly to the grow light or is it better to have it mounted separately? Thanks.

I also have open vent ports on tent but that's it for intake. Air from the room is being pulled in through the open tent ports and straight to the carbon scrubber. Will that work fine?

Agreed on the filter, it needs to be up high... It looks like you will have quite a bit of weight on that tent frame. I just set up my Jardin 5x5, and wasn't willing to trust the frame with the weight of two light hoods, fan, and Can66 filter.
I located the studs in the ceiling above the tent, and hung the carbon scrubber and fan from that, down through carefully cut holes in the roof of the tent. I used cable from the hardware store, and crimp ferrules to hold it.
I screwed a 2x4 from a post in my garage, over to a joist hanger on the wall, to hold the lights. Same deal, I cut a couple small holes for the chains I use.
You will likely be fine with your setup, but if it seems overloaded, or flimsy, there is always the option of hanging it through the ceiling of the tent.
I run a 6" fan, dialed back to about 75%, cooling 1200 watts. With the outside (The tent) air temp at 70, I maintain 78-80 pretty reliably. I only have one of the screened side panel covers removed, all other vents are closed, or have hoses running through them.
Hope this help, pics if you need them.
Regards

Thanks ydijadoit! Your approach sounds very inventive and do-able. I honestly thought the tent frame was going to be stronger. I guess I will remount my carbon scrubber back up by the light. I hope the frame can hold on. I will use heavy duty tape and tape all the connecting joints on the poles so they wont pull apart. I used the reflective thermal tape to tape my ducting to the carbon filter, should I use that same tape and tape the ducting to the grow light and to the inline filter?

My grow shopguy does pull ups off the light bar in those tents to show customers how strong they are lol . so yeah i think you'll be fine hanging the filter up there . just have the bunji cords or straps overlap 2 of the poles to be extra sure . mount the filter seperatly .

the intakes on the tent will be fine opened IF theres no lights on in the main room while lights are off in the tent . if theres a chance they'll be on .... run 2 6" ducts into the bottom of the tent . a few bends in the ducting will help block any light getting in .

OK so I remounted the carbon filter to one of the support rods in the tent. How does it look now? Also I have duct clamps that I want to use to secure the ducting to the grow light on both sides and to the inline fan but I cant figure out how these clamps work. I included a picture I would appreciate any advice. Also do back-draft dampeners go on grow tents or are they for different setups?

Looks like a good place for the filter. The one thing I would do differently, is mount the fan to the carbon filter, sucking through filter, and blowing through lights. I have read several places that fans are more efficient pulling, than pushing, but there is a problem. A negative pressure situation in your light hood, and all the ducting, will find any tiny leak, and suck stinky air out of the tent.
If you run it Carbon filter>fan>ducting>light>ducting>out of tent, you eliminate a potential leak.
I have done it both ways, and I promise, it's easier this way, than it is to find every tiny pinhole, and seal it up.
As for those clamps, they look like regular hose clamps. It would be easier for you to Google that, than for us to try and explain it in a thousand words or less. :)
Tape is not my preferred option for making connections. Smell can get you arrested, and an overheated light from a cooling failure can burn your house down. I clamp every connection, and make sure it's secure.
Looks like a good setup!

I am not seeing anything in your setup that needs a backdraft damper yet. I'd leave that out for now...

ydijadoit, Your right with the ventilation setup. Any small air leak after that carbon filter and I will be blowing the smell of the grow right out of the tent. I will adjust and re-post with a picture. Also I wont use the back-draft dampener right now. As for that duct clamp, I was looking at it, I must be missing something obvious. Because I just cant get the clamp to work? Thanks

That looks better. You still will have two connections, and some ducting that could leak, but the light hoods are the big culprit. If you can put an incense stick in there safely, light it, and zip up the tent, you shouldn't smell a thing outside the tent.
As for the hose clamp, I don't know what to tell you. Sometimes they are missing the screw, but it looked like yours was complete. Slide the loose end of the clamp under the screw, and turn the screw until the threads grab the cuts in the clamp band. Less than a thousand words, but that's the best I've got!

Looks good…

fwiw, I'd ditch the adjustable light hangers all together and instead just house the hood at the top by hanging it from the cross bar by the reflector's "V" hooks.

Thanks for the help guys! I actually got the clamp to work I think the screw was just a little stuck, I finally got it to start spinning and now its working just as it should. ydijadoit-I will try the incense, great idea. Hope nothing leaks. I am clamping and taping everything to make it as secure as possible. I noticed that I have a small seam that tore a little bit, possibly during the setup? Anyway I have to figure out a way to patch that up.

Yeah, that Gorilla tape is about the best damn tape I've ever used. If you don't have it locally, look for tent or perhaps rubber boat repair tape. Those are two other options. I need to reinforce the holes I cut in the roof of my tent, with something. I will likely use one of these products.
Looks like you need some plants in there soon!

I will check out that Gorilla Tape. Thanks again. I hope the seam doesn't continue to separate or I will have to figure out a way to sew it back together again.
