Grow room ventilation vs humidity

Alright, so im designing my first indoor grow (tried an outdoor grow but humidity f***ed my plants) and have a dilema. So its important to have good ventilation and replace the air in the room over certain amount of time (i cant seal the room and use co2), the problem is i will need to have a dehumidifier to keep the humidity low as i live in a place with fairly high humidity. Ive never used a dehumidifier, will i have trouble with the dehumidifier keeping up with the constant air change.

Grow room is gona be either 4x4m(13x13f) or 3x4m(10x13f) and the options for dehumidifier is either 14L (30 pint) or 16L(34 pint) removal per day.

So what do you guys think would be the best solution?

Thanks in advance :bongsmi:

I havent started yet, i have had problems with mold in the past on outdoor grows. So i should only worry about humidity during flowering?

No i dont have my grow room built yet. I wanted to build a (not really) sealed room so i could keep the humidity low, and change the air inside the room by turning on the exaust fan on intervals so my dehumidifier can keep up.

Im gonna do a 4 plant RDWC for now. i want to grow 4 plants, keep the best one or take clones from it to keep as a mother plant. The grow is gona be seed to finish (on the summer there are constant blackouts so for the summer i cant grow, hence i dont want to do a perpetual)
Im gonna use big aircooled reflectors with 400w MH and 600W HPS. I was thinking of SCROGing the 4 plants, so each plant would have a fan under it, one exaust fan for the lights with the intake outside the room and one for the entire room with a scruber.
The popo in my country doesnt care tho, so we dont really need to completly hide :)

If you don't completely hide, you get ripped off or worse. Why not seal the room?

> Really think you should stop worrying bout humidity indoors compared to your outdoor endeavors.
No offense, but this is bad advice. Powdery Mildew and Botritus will be a problem, and will decimate a crop. You're intaking high RH, spore laden air into the room constantly. Best to seal, AC, CO2, dehumidify the air. If you're trying to dehumidify outside air that is intaking/exhausting, it's a lost cause. Good luck. -granger

I considered sealing the room and getting a co2 system but it seemed too much for my first indoor. What I was thinking was having an exhaust fan that turns on to change the air in the room (something like 5 minutes on then an hour off, to aloud the dehumidifier to catch up).
Could this work?

Right now I have 4 aircooled reflectors, 4 600w HPS and 400MH lights.
I still have to build my RDWC, buy exaust fans and dehumidifier

Hello Mcalata,

I have been dialling in my room for the last year or so. Every room is different. A lot depends on the outside weather and where the room is situated...like basement or attic or garden shed or cupboard. I have hot summers, freezing winters and everything inbetween. My room is 3m x 3m and basement. My advice on ventilation is this
I used to use those big ufo type ventilators like 15min on/ 45 min off but realised it was overkill and it is better to use the pc fan type and just have on constantly whist lights on. I use 2 pc fans as air extraction through 10cm round ducting to scrubbers and have 2 10cm round holes as passive air in. Temps are controlled thru use of 2 main things:
hooded vs unhooded lights
controlling air output via timers
eg. in summer I will have my lights hooded and use only 2 of my 3 600w lights and have both air extractor fans on whist lights on.....in winter I have all 3 600w lights on unhooded and regulate the extractor fans via the timers as necessary.
I used to have problems with high humidity and water condensation also some bud-rot and PM.
I have only had a dehumidifier for 2 months and now regret not buying one earlier. I got the delonghi dd30 which does 30l/24h and am happy with it. I used to have drops of water dropping from the ceiling and 85% humidity at night, I hope this winter that will be no more....atm the dehumidifier is on during lights off and keeps the humidity below 50%...it also works as a heater and keeps temps over 20 which is great. I now look forward to less problems caused by too high humidity.
Also I would take this opportunity to recommend organic living recycled soil (or no-till) growing method...since changing I couldn't be happier. No more buying bagged soilless mixes, no more bottled ferts.
good luck with your room and growing

Hi Buddyy, thanks for your input. I think I will have to build my grow room and and dial it down by trial and error.
I'm also gonna build it in my basement. I will buy an exaust fan and use a dimmer cause I will build a bigger room in the future.
Thanks

You could consider growing a mold resistant sativa.

Dehumidifier works great lots have a drain hose or a reservoir you empty. Easy they work great. I'd place it near your intake to pull as much moisture out of your incoming, unless you can find a way to run your in-air through a dehumidifier that would be fantastic... I live in a dry place so I don't use them, ever but my uncle who grows out on the coast uses one...

Indoor growing is great I love it

check out the pic im attaching. its for the proper VDP for MJ grows indoors.

I run 72-75% rh in veg and 60-65% in flower. this all goes by my temps, and I can control my ultrasonic fogger system by adjusting the fan speed. houseofhydro.com is the place I bought my 9 disc fogger w/float, 80mm waterproof fan and fan speed controller.

proper air flow is a must as well.
