Alright, 5 days later, several of the cuttings are showing new growth, but I don't see any roots coming out of the Jiffy pellets. I think the next time I give cloning a shot, I'll be building a little bubble cloner. That way I can see progress and be a little less in the dark during the whole process.

I just built a carbon scrubber, came out looking very nice. I followed DurbanPoison's tutorial, which can be found in the Link-o-Rama, and I'm very pleased with the end result. I'm just waiting for the carbon to be shipped to me ($20 for 10lbs, would've cost the same for 3lbs at the pet store) and then I'll hook it up. I'm not sure how it's going to be mounted, I need to think about that. All this waiting is starting to irritate me, but it's given me time to properly put my cabinet together. I should be transplanting them within a week, hopefully things will pick up then.

You can build a whole grow cabinet using stuff from the link-o-rama, it really is a great resource. I'm actually getting a shopping list together right now, I'm going to build a support for the scrubber, and hopefully a air cooled hood. I'll get some pictures posted when I get back from the store, the cabinet is almost done and I'm pumped.

If I can get the hood hooked up tonight I might transplant them and put the HPS on them so the grow a bit. I can see very obvious new growth on most of them, so they've gotta be established in the little jiffy pot by now.

Anyways, I gotta get that list together, but I'll leave off with a picture of my modified-lockbox. I fitted it with foam and carved out spots for some bowls, my grinder, and a lighter or two. I'm pretty pleased with the results, I think I'm going to make another insert for a different set of bowls and stuff, I might make a picture tutorial of that if I'm feeling up to it.

(Yeah, you see right, that's a custom fire-proof foil tape modified Bic.)
:headbange

Edit: Guh... by the time I got finished getting the final dimensions for my hood drawn up and writing my shopping list Home Depot closed. Guess I'll get an early start tomorrow. After I get the hood built and hooked up the cabinet is 100% done.

My whole apartment has been running around 60-70% RH, is there anything I can do to bring that down besides a dehumidifier? Those are a bit pricey... :bashhead:

I've got four good looking cuttings, but I definitely won't be using the Jiffy pellets again. I don't attribute the poor success percentage (10%) to the Jiffy pellets (well, they might've had some effect) but instead to my stasis method.

When I put them into the fridge, I put some water in the bag, as I had seen pictures of people doing when looking through guides for stasis. When I took them out, recut them, and planted them in the pellets, it looked as though they were waterlogged. Some of the leaves were darker than the rest of the cuttings, and a bit heavier. So I think what happened is they got waterlogged and basically drowned, with a couple survivors.

I have one cutting that lived from the LST'd plant, and three from the scrogged plant. I was hoping for more than one from the LST plant, but I'm glad I got one. I still haven't seen roots, and it's been almost three weeks, although I saw new growth starting about 1.5 weeks ago for one, and about 1 week ago for the other three. I have a feeling I'll be seeing roots this week, so I'll transplant them and give them some food (maybe going pbp, maybe going organic teas) for a quick veg. If they grow at a decent rate, I might veg as little as a week, but I don't plan on going longer than two weeks.

I'm not sure what I want to plant them in. I'll definitely be doing the veg period in beer cups, but I'm not sure what to put them in for flowering. When I was planning on having 6 or 8 I was going to do 2 liter bottles, but now that I've got a little more space I might want to get larger containers. But then if I do that I'll want to veg a little longer. I need to make up my mind, quick. :bashhead:

I got my carbon in the mail and have my DIY carbon filter all built and ready to go. I just need to buy some more ducting and figure out how to hook it up. I'm thinking I'll put four hook screws in the top right corner of the cabinet, two on the right side of the cabinet and two in the back of the cabinet, and string a bungee between them and hug the filter to the wall. I could probably get that done tonight, if I do I'll get some pictures.

Sorry there aren't any this update, I can't find my usb cord. I gotta clean up the apartment tonight, so maybe I'll find it and post some pictures later.

Wow... didn't realize this was so long. Thanks for taking the time if you do read it

Ok so... I just cleaned out all the empty pellets and checked the ones that are still alive. I'm not too sure about them... There were some green ones that were still alive, but weren't showing any growth and kinda droopy, so I broke open the pellets and didn't see any evidence of roots at all, so I'm stumped. Maybe the new growth is just sucking the life out of the rest of the plant? There's some yellow on the edges of leaves (again, sucks w/o pictures, I need to get on that) but not enough to look like they're having the life sucked out of them.

I might end up just planting some more seeds, and I'm already like a month behind where I was planning. Who knows :puppydoge

Thanks for checking it out NOFpuXnk!

Alright so I was just checking on the plants last night, they looked good, and i saw a dead shriveled leaf on one of them. I pulled on it lightly to see if it would come off, and the entire plant came out of the peat pellet. No roots at all. There was significant new growth, but no roots. I think I'm gonna scrap this round, and start some seeds.

What to start though? Highend, SD IBL, Blockhead, or my Mountain High Mix? Decisions decisions...

Well I decided last night to grow out the 5 freebies from the Mountain High Mix, I'm hoping to get my cabinet dialed in with temperatures and everything and then I'll grow my expensive seeds once it's dialed in. I really want to grow the Blockhead, I've seen and heard great things. I only have 5 seeds, they were the freebie pack, and I've seen mixed reports about those.

Anyways, I picked the Mountain High Mix because it looked like a good set of genetics, and a short enough flower time. I don't want a knockout indica, which I've heard Blockhead can be. For more information on the Mountain High Mix, check out this thread.

I dropped all 5 seeds into a shot glass last night, and I'm going to put them into soil tonight. Looks like I'll have to start a new thread!

Well I just went into the cabinet tonight and lightly tugged on all the clones. Two came out very easily, with no signs of roots. One now has several roots coming out, and one wouldn't move when tugged on, so it may be rooted. I don't have much faith in that one, because it's not looking too good. I'll be planting the seeds and putting those clones in soil either tonight or tomorrow, I really need to find my camera cable. :badday:

That seems like it'll be a good starting point for a new thread, I'll put a link here once I get it made.

Hey bounty what up, sorry to hear about the clones. It's true though that you can't learn without making mistakes, I know I've made enough. If it's not too late I'd pop those blockheads, I grew the freebies and they were awesome. Good luck.

I dropped all the Mountain High Mix seeds into a shot glass, and they all cracked in 24 hours. Now the five of them, plus the one living clone are in cups of soil. I still haven't found the cable for the camera, I might have to buy a new one.

I can't wait for these plants to get going, I think this cabinet has real potential. All that's left to do is finish building the cool tube, mount a circulation fan inside the cabinet, and drill a couple holes for the ballast wires to go in and out of the cabinet, and then we'll be all set. I really want to grow the Blockheads, but I also really want to grow the Sour Diesel and the Highend. I've only got space for like 6 plants, but once I get going I might run more than one strain at a time.

The main reason I chose the Mountain High Mix is because I think I'm going to want to keep mothers from the other strains I have, and I don't have anywhere to do that yet. Hopefully by the end of this grow I'll have figured out a small mother/cloning space.

My cat was curious, sniffed around a little.

What's left...

-Drill holes for ballast wires on top or back of cabinet
-Figure out reflector for cool tube
-Mount ventilation fan on wall inside cabinet somewhere
-Grow buds

So I was at Walmart today getting a dehumidifier, and I saw these little trashcan things for $1.47 each. They looked like they'd be a perfect fit for my cabinet, so I grabbed four of them. I've come up with 3 different arrangements I'd probably use in flower.

I like the setup with 2 garbage cans and 5 two liter bottles, and the one with four garbage cans. The one with three garbage cans looks like it might cause ventilation problems by blocking the intake, so I don't know that I'd use that one.

The garbage cans are 7.6l or something like that, so about 4x the capacity as the 2l bottles.

Right now I've got one SD IBL clone and five seedlings from a mix. I think I'm going to flower the seedlings in the 2l bottles and the SD clone in one of the bins. What do you guys think of these plant setups? Good use of space?

Very Nice setup bounty.

I like the air cooled hood. How is it working so far?

I like the idea with the 5 mhm in 2l and the sd in the bin.

I haven't been able to truly test out the hood yet, because I don't have the glass for it. I should be getting it in the next few days though, so I'll let ya know.

I definitely want to have a good size stash of SD after harvest, I think if I were to aim high, for what I would like to get from this harvest, I'd say...

14g average from each 2liter MHM plant, so... 2.5oz
1-1.5oz from Sour Diesel
...
for a total of 3.5-4oz from a 150w HPS (98-112g, 0.65-0.74gpw)

Realistically, I'll plan for about half of that, and hopefully I'll be surprised!

If this grow goes well, I might add a 70w MH and modify the aircooled hood for two bulbs. It'll be fall by that time so temps should be better to work with, but I'm hoping ventilation works out.
