Grow 2: Easy Ryder/Diesel Ryder/Himalaya Blue Diesel in Uruguay

Hi Everyone

After just finished manicuring the final 3 plants from my first grow (Himalaya Blue Diesel):

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=167361

Its time to start straight away on grow two.

This time I'm trying 2 each of: Easy Ryder/Diesel Ryder/Himalaya Blue Diesel

All seeds are feminized and I'm growing indoors using a BC Northern Lights Bloom Box.

For this grow the seeds are going directly into 6.5L pots under a 400w Metal Halide Bulb (on a 20/4 schedule), before swapping over to a 400W HPS in 3 weeks time. Each of the 6 pots will also have a Humidity Dome on top for the first 2 weeks or so.

Seeds have been placed in the dark overnight (in shot glasses) in distilled water in a heated propagator and then transferred directly into the soil after stirring them with my finger - 5 of the 6 sunk and so went into the soil, one Easy Ryder didnt so I'm leaving that another 24 hours and also put another one into water just in case.

The first grow started with 1 litre pots before transplanting into 6.5L pots after 3 weeks, so I want to experiment and find out if big pots from day one = bigger yield (guess we'll know that in 10-11 weeks !)

Two Different Soil Mixes (soil mixed 10 days ago and soaked through) , although they all have:

40% Peat Moss / 20% Perlite / 20% Coco Fibre / 20% Worm Castings / 20g Dolomite per pot / 10g Epsom Salts per pot / 15g Cavemans Fresh Bat Guano per pot (NPK 8-1-1)

Then 3 of the pots have: 45g per pot (Guano Kalong 2-15-2)

Remaining 3: 35g per pot Bone Meal / 12g per pot Chicken Guano (NPK 2-6-4)

So in effect each strain is getting two different options (one with Guano Kalong and one with Bone Meal+Chicken Guano)

Thats it for now, will update with pics once the seeds start to pop through.

First Weekend Update

They're a week old today and 5 out of 6 doing well.

The lesson of the week......if you're growing 6 plants don't just put 6 seeds in and expect them all to germinate and start growing well.

The two Diesel Ryders did and one of the Himalaya Blue Diesels also, but the other HBD and BOTH (!) Easy Ryders didn't (although they did sink in the shot glass, just didn't 'take' once in the soil).

So I put in 2 x new Easy Ryders and one New HBD and 2 out of the 3 are now doing well - the one not doing so well is the 2nd Easy Ryder - going to give this one more day and if no improvement start with another seed.

I am surprised that the Easy Ryder's have not germed as well as the Diesel Ryders and the HBD's but thats just the way it goes I guess.

More next week.......

Weekend Update - plants 2 weeks old today

Four of the six plants are two weeks old today and growing really well. Compared with the first grow I did, the size of these four after 2 weeks is nearly double, which I'm guessing is....bigger pots, 20/4 light schedule and closer to the light.

Not much else to report - will give them a mild tea in a week and switch over to the HPS 400w Light (at the 3 week point).

More next week........

Weekend Update - 3 weeks old today

Most of the plants are 3 weeks old today and mostly doing well (see below for a problem).

Two have started showing sex this weekend and I will be changing over to the 400w HPS in two days.

Gave them a mild veg tea mix today and overall they are growing really well and a good size when compared to my first grow.

However in the past 48 hours, I've noticed a small (?) problem developing with the 3 eldest ones (2 x Diesel Ryder and one Himalaya Blue Diesel)......

Some of the leaf tips on the upper sets of leaves look 'burned', on all three plants and I need to figure out why.

Is it just heat stress and I need to move them further away from the light (although the temps have been constant between 72-78 apart from today when the box was 83 degrees for a few hours as we had a hot winter day (but the problem showed yesterday when it was not hot)) or could it be that the soil mixture I've used from the start is too hot (although why this problem now after 3 weeks ??) or is it something else that I don't know about.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated so I can nip this in the bud before it gets any worse !

Thanks and more soon.....

It seems to me like you have a pretty hot mix going on there, I wouldn't really add a whole lot in the way of teas or anything else until you see them slightly yellow on the bottom leaves from lack of nutrients. Then again I don't have a whole lot of experience with AF strains as I have never grown one.

When people use LC's mix which looks like what you are using they normally don't start the seeds in a mix with the dry fertilizers in them. It's a basic mix without much in it except for what the peat and EWC have naturally. After the veg stage usually you will transplant into the mixes you have, but not earlier then that.

They don't look that bad by the way, just watch them and use plain water for a few waterings and see what happens, that's what I would do.

Thanks for the info - this is what I can't figure out though - mild nute burn or heat stress - if mild nute burn then why is it only showing after 3 weeks when the plants are no longer seedlings and therefore 'less' fragile ????

You can get nute burns in any stage of growing, not just with small, young plants.
It doesn look too bad to me, I've had the same thing going on with my leaf tips and them plants grew just fine. If it gets worse then take action and keep an eye of them.
Good Luck

Hey man, goodluck on ur grow.
Yours plants seem to be doing better than mine which have gone into stunting due to nuteburn. I suggest you deal with this "burning" asap and don't let it progress lest the same thing happen to you.

Cheers bro

Weekend Update - 4 weeks old today

Back again already, another week gone.

I think that the problems of last week were a case of mild nute burn that thankfully have not got any worse and I've also figured out how it happened (a mistake by me !)

If you look at my first grow, there were a number of mistakes that weren't 'life threatening' to the plants and with this grow I've made sure I did not make them again. But there's always room for new ones........!!!!!!

Two days after I saw this mild burn, I remembered that I mixed the whole soil mix in one big pot and then put it into the 6.5L pots ready for growing. When I'd done this, I thought.....ummm, did each individual pot get an equal amount of the Nitrogen Bat Guano, maybe not, so like an idiot I added more, thus straying from my proven mixture.....and the result.......mild nute burn.

So that goes down in the 'mistakes not to make again book' along with all the others.

Anyway, back to the grow. Four of the plants are four weeks old today and the smaller two are three weeks old tomorrow.

All plants are shooting up day by day now and the oldest four having been showing sex for nearly a week.

Everything looks healthy and strong, the only issue thats slightly concerning me, is on one of the Diesel Ryders, the new, top set of leaves are curling under and a little bit white at the tips.

Any ideas on whats causing this would be helpful.

More next week......

Weekend Update - 5 and 4 weeks old today

Nothing much to report - one of them still has mild nute burn (nothing serious) from my 'over' nitrogen mistake with the soil mix at the start, other than that they are EXPLODING with growth day by day and the comparison between these and the first grow I did is amazing in terms of size and width.

These are now bigger at the half way stage than the first grow was at the end, so I'm hopeful of one oz per plant yield (half an oz per plant last time).

Gave them a mild flowering tea today (Bat Guano, Molasses and Worm Castings) and thats about it until next week......

This batch looks off to a better start since you set em off with bigger containers and closer to the light. I'm comparing to the 4-5 week pics from your last grow and this grow is doing healthy : )

Holy fuck those HBD are 25inches , damn mine are 10days right now . Im loving your journal and cant wait to see more. Do you ever check your PPM / EC or PH cause ive followed your other thread and Ive never herd you say anything about your PPM , PH ect.

Thanks

I never check any of that stuff. Good organic soil mix, organic teas and distilled water - so hopefully I never need to !

No problems at all with this system
