ground wire question

And lastly, to the OP, please mark that white wire with black tape and change that receptacle out to a NEMA 2-20R if indeed this is #12 AWG wire. Don't use a receptacle that allows 120v appliances to plug into a 240v feed.

Sorry, make that a 6-15R or a 6-20R depending on what size circuit breaker is in the panel for this branch circuit.

Thanks for the laugh. That just diffused my whole angry stance and I owe you one for that. Again, you bring up the ego thing. Seriously, sit down and analyze this one my friend. That's many times you have brought that up.

I'm trying to help people. What don't you understand about this? There is no hidden agenda. I worry about some of you guys and your grow rooms. Plain and simple. I don't want to see you burn your house down (or your neighbors) and I don't want to see you guys behind bars.

Look.... Peace be with you friend. I have no time for negative thoughts right now and I'm sorry if I provoked them in you. On the same token, I should have known better than to let you provoke me. If you'd like, I'll just quit posting on this forum. You seem to have some deep seated issue with me and I'll concede. My free time needs to be spent recharging my chi, not loosing it to a complete stranger thru a computer screen.

Like you, I have also taken the time to try to help people in a constructive way and that is why I get offended when someone with a know-it-all attitude comes along and tries to nit pick everything I say - which is what you have done. I quit posting on the electrical threads because a) you are more up to date with the current NEC than I am and b) because I have neither the desire nor the choler to constantly argue with you and your know-it-all attitude. You may have a lot of electrical knowledge, but I have a lot more real world experience than you do. The original poster in this thread has neither. When someone comes along and posts in big bold letters something that is patently false under these particular circumstances, and I correct the false impression they might have created for the OP, that should be the end of the story. For you to come along and then say that the incorrect statement was, in fact, "technically correct" that does nothing but confuse the OP and muddy the waters around what was really a very simple statement and answer to his question. How in the hell is the OP to then know if his white wire is hot or neutral? Granted, you have shown everyone how well you know the NEC, but have accomplished little beyond that and, in doing so, could well have confused the OP.

You did the same thing with the GFIC comment I made. The fact of the matter is that a GFIC will break the circuit for other receptacles that are wired to it. Does that make it the kind of circuit breaker that you use in a panel or that you use to protect an entire circuit from overload? No, of course not. But what I said about the GFIC was relevant to the particular discussion in that particular thread and you jumped all over my shit about it - not because it was so much wrong as to just show that you know more than me. Apparently it never occurs to you to have a constructive conversation with other electricians, only to jump on their shit to try to prove that you are smarter than them. I haven't made any posts on electrical threads since your GFIC tantrum until today - and the first thing that happens you show up and start an argument. So, before you go talking about negativity, take a good look at your part in this squabble.

I certainly have better things to do than argue with you. The only thing I ask is before you go dissing what I say try to remember that all that memorizing of NEC codes doesn't necessarily make you wise and sometimes a little wisdom is better than a whole lot of facts.

Please, please, please stop with the know-it-all/ego stuff. I just counted 4 or 5 times you brought it up in the above post. 6 or 7 times on this thread alone.

I did not challenge you or start an argument with my first post in this thread. Did not even cross my mind in the slightest. Really, I mean it, so quit thinking otherwise. I merely stated that he was correct with the general color codes for conductors. That's all. Then I went on to say that the white conductor should have been marked black.

I mean you no ill will and nothing but peace and harmony. Cheesy as that may sound, it's true. So please, go sit out on the front porch, light one up and recharge yourself a bit. It does neither of us any good to play energy wars with words, and that's exactaly what happened here tonite.

Peace and goodwill. I need to detach myself from this ASAP.

.

But to the original poster: are you cutting in on your dedicated dryer line? It would be easier and safer just to add a dedicated line from your panel. Well, maybe not Where are you setting up? In your laundry room?

i will be cutting directly into a dedicated 40amp circuit. it was put in for this purpose but i was not the one who talked to the electrician or it would have been a way different setup. anyways i think i have it figured out and i thank you guys for all the help.

also sorry for the argument that was created in the thread. haha i just had a simple question but sometimes it will spiral out of control. i appreciate the advice and i understand that the concern is there for my safety. thanks
