Greyskull's Trimbox Technique

G

Greyskull

Aloha everyone.

I hate trimming with scissors. Actually, I just hate trimming in general. It takes forvever, its messy, and it's a necessary pain in the ass part of the growing equation (unless you hire professional trimmers).
So I bought a Trimbox and have been a happy camper ever since.

Before I get to my technique here's a few Q's I've been hit with before...

"Doesn't it take off all your trichs?" NO. Not if you immediately trim your buds after chopping them off the plant.
"Doesn't it make your buds look bad?" NO. As long as you "feel" your way thru the action you will have beautiful buds. DO NOT PUSH BUDS THRU THE GRATE!
"Isn't that thing loud?" YES. Its like a lawn mower - plan to use it accordingly.

Step 1 - select plant.
picture.php

Step 2 - remove big fan leaves.
picture.php

Step 3 - cut off branches into nice "drumsticks"
picture.php

Step 4 - gather "drumsticks" and keep near Trimbox
picture.php

Step 5 -BEFORE PASSING OVER THE TRIMBOX
picture.php

Step 6 - Gently pass buds over the grate. Be sure to rotate the stem
to trim all over buds.

Step 7 - AFTER PASSING OVER THE TRIMBOX

Step 8 - DONE and on to the next...

Step 9 - time to hang them up...

Step 10 - Hanging.... in primo conditions (70-75f, 40-45rh) buds will be dry in about 4 days.

Once the buds are snapping off of the branches (they are dry), the buds will be cleaned up (to remove excess fan leaves.. will be super easy as they wil pretty much fall right off the branches with minimal effort) before
being weighed and either moved or placed into jars for cure.

what up Nite Tiger!
yeah man a bit of a one time investment, but dude... totally worth it! instead of doing it with scissors and taking 10 hrs, or paying profession trimmer fees of $200 per LB, I bought a trimmer for whenever. but it is a big chunk of change man....

hey junior its like when you mow the lawn... one might accidentally run over their foot, so PAY ATTENTION, DON'T BE OBLITERATED, and PAY ATTENTION. its easy!

You're not supposed to run over your foot? What will you crazy kids think of next?

I just finished a 13 hour session but, I only have to do it 2-3 times a year. If I were doing any quantities ...

I'm glad you're enjoying your new toy.

Greyskull, you F-ing rock brotha! This was EXACTLY the kind of step by step tutorial with pictures I was looking for to make the leap. This proves that you don't need to be pulling 1000 lbs to justify this machine. I've got quite a similar workload and trimming is a chap. I know it's supposed to be the "other half" of growing.....but honestly it's no fun.
I'd rather get onto the smoking part....
I'm still indecisive about the trimbox or the trimbox workstation.....it's not exactly clear if they're just selling a metal frame to hook the trimbox up to as the workstation on the website...
If that's the case, it makes the two separate components more expensive than the trimpro...which would make absolutely no sense.

I had looked at the big-red shredder and some other medium sized trmmers....but honestly it's a ball-buster to hook the thing upto a shopvac.

I like the small footprint and easy access to the trimbox.

Could you do us a favor and put up more shots of the way it's attached to your counter?

I saw that they give you a bracket that looks like it should be screwed or drilled in place....I don't wanna do that, but I wouldn't mind using a vice/clamp to fix it to one of my desks while working....I want to see if that's possible and if it will be stabile when doing that...
I can imagine it's like a small jet engine whirring away, I don't want the thing to shake loose and go crashing to the floor.

So it's THAT loud eh? Does it sound like a vacuum? It'd be hard to be clandestine with a machine that's so different and lound sounding...LOL. If it sounds as loud as a vacuum, then it'd be o.k. to run it almost anytime.

Peace!

hey accessndx - the workstation is just a metal fram w/legs to hook up to the trimbox. if the optins are wither trimbox+station or trimpro, go trimpro. I'll get a few better pics for you but it has 2 bars connected to the main housing that you can clamp down on the the table/counter surface - they supply the clamps, too. Jey engine is a little loud... its like a really loud vacumm. Or a really quiet table saw.

The Trimbox is not something I would use at 3am unless I was secluded w/out any neighbors. But mid day, no worries.

Hey killa-bud - yeah I do whats called the "cut & style"! When its all dried its not really gonna be too much work as the dried leaf will come right of. Thats said, I also should note that I am not a fan of tight "military" cuts... I like my buds to look like they were just pulled... NOT LEAFY w/ LEAVE DRAPED AROUND THE BUDS PULLED but kind of jagged. You ever have SUGAR IN THE RAW.... I like my dried buds to be the equivelent, if that makes any sense...

I should probably take a shot of the trim I collected in the bag.... later tonight while i am changing reserviors, cleaning tables & floors, and dumping medium....

Oh, I have no doubt that the investment is worth while, it's just not an investment I could make :D

Although, do I feel another Nite's DIY experiment coming on? :chin:

I was stoned walking thru ikea one day and saw them and the first thing i thought of was "those are perfect for drying buds".
I cannot for the life of me find a link to the exact one I have now, but here's some I found that are the same thing from amazon...

Hell, for reading it in a brief line somewhere, I downright impressed with my stoner memory abilities :biglaugh:

absolutely nite tiger! I was pretty impressed, too... to be honest with you, I was completely oblivious to the fact I had posted something about them previously until I saw you post. Then I went "oh yeah".

THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP!

Nice. I wanna get the workstation! My opinion is that the cost is well worth the saved time, pain, and mess...
The workstations run 1600usd, for whoever asked, I think the trimbox shown is slightly less.

We received your request for more information about the TRIMPRO and the TRIMPRO WORKSTATION. We first want to thank you for your interest in our products.

The difference between both trimmers is the grate:

TRIMPRO
Aluminium grate
1/8 inch thick.
Coated with anti-adhesive black teflon.
Available with either only large slots or with a mix of small and large slots.

TRIMPRO WORKSTATION
Stainless steel grate.
1/16 inch thick (thinner for a closer cut).
Not coated (for the user who likes to clean the grate with a scraper) With edges on the sides. Available with small slots only.

With the Trimpro, most users will keep the branch in their hand on pass it on top of the grate. With the Trimpro Workstation, most users will cut the flowers from the branches and roll them on the grate with their hands. This is why we had some edges on the sides of the Workstation.

The TRIMPRO and TRIMPRO WORKSTATION are available in the United-States directly from the manufacturer. Please find below our retail price list (shipment included):

TRIMPRO: 1599 US$

TRIMBOX: 895 US$

TRIMPRO WORKSTATION: 1949 US$

TRIMBOX WORKSTATION: 1180 US$

TRIMPRO AUTOMATIK: 3299 US$

TRIMPRO XL: 9995 US$

Thats the answer I got from Trimpro when I asked the difference between the TRimp Pro and TP workstatsion.

My hydro store doesnt carry the Trimp Pro brand anymore but some generic version. I started it in the store and its not real loud. I wonder how it works

Hmmmm....I could be insane, but I remember their website indicating that they were a Canadian based company....
Is there U.S. contact info.? If it were available without a special order at a local hydro store, I would have had one already. I called the local joint near me, and they never got back to me. They specified that the manufacturer "never got back to THEM". I dunno. Skip over the middlemen I say (unless there's some sort of economic reason or incentive not to...)

Very eager to get my hands on one of these gals...
Plus big K+ to greyskull for demonstrating beyond reproach that these devices don't butcher your nugs or make them look shabby!
