I know we all smoke to get loaded, for the most part, but there is something to this question.

A girl I know and I were going to get some weed. This one strain sort of has no taste and when you smell it burning you don't even know it is weed. In the bag it smells so-so. But Man what a kick. Two hits and I need to take a look around and ask some questions.

The other strain we get her is called Green Qween. It has all the stuff you look for, bag appeal, smells, taste etc. Not as potent.

For both, price is about the same, $40 eighth.

I imagine a lot of folks deal with this too. Many times the taste/high of the various strains available are pretty close with one being slightly more stoney while the other being slightly more tastey.

Smoking weed is about getting high, but great tasting weed is a big part of the experience. I have smoked weed here in Seattle and in Oregon that had great taste and smells that didn't get me high at all. I don't want to include those as they are like a waste of time.

As a consumer your goals may be different, but as a grower I can have varietals that do both. There are few weak herbs I will keep just for taste. Peace GS

I would replace the word "stoniest" with "buzz quality." For some reason I am having a hard time selecting stoniest because most of the time I prefer a non-stony buzz, would be called getting high instead of getting stoned. But, its too late for you to change the poll, so I'm going to vote stoniest. Smell and taste are secondary compared to buzz quality, but it is SO nice when you find a strain that has beautiful scent and taste on top of the quality of buzz you seek.

Yeah, I should have spent more time on the wording, because this will attract the cannasuers.

Quality in Bouquet or Quality in High would be more appropriate.

And face it, any beer, wine, drinker or even gourmet considers presentation a HUGE element in the final equation.

People hold a glass of wine to the light and look at it, they smell it and describe the smell.... Something very common in our circles as well.

I haven't voted yet. The fact is, I prefer to have a few varietals around to entertain, but when I smoke alone I prefer a nice taste with a mild buzz or just of puff off of some decent hash.

"buzz quality."

This.As long as it gets me where I want to go and isn't downright nasty to smoke it can taste like lawn clippings for all I care. Effect is paramount.

That said I do enjoy and actively seek lower potency stuff that tastes good. I'm a total lightweight and I enjoy the act of smoking....so sometimes it's nice to be able to actually finish a joint without tripping or falling asleep.

How about a moderately strong but very tasty strain that has a high ceiling.
Dose until you're where you wanna be, smacking lips all the way. :joint:

This stuff I wrote the thread about taste like hay. I didn't think it would get me high and it leveled me.

That is what I like the best. I love to have concentrates around for when I need to get "There" however.

It's like with alcohol.

Taste matters most, but sometimes you want the stronger stuff..

Even then, one doesn't drink everclear, it should be tasty...

It's all about the high. The less it takes to get you where you want, the longer you have it.

Also, for folks still under repression less smell = more covert.

So given the choice you outlined, I'd go with the "Stoniest" . . . or as I prefer, the most astral slide ride . . .

That said, I totally agree with Wiggs when you can get both with the same weed is the best of all.

Yeah, I know you can get both, but not always. And me and a smoking friend were going to get some and had this discussion. This shit that smells like hay is pretty stony weed

As long as the high is reasonably decent then definately taste/smell is the more important quality for me. Now if there was no high or almost no high then definately I would pass on it in favor of something that got me higher, even if it smelled and tasted great.

All that being said I've never experienced a strain that had a great taste and smell but little or no high, nor have I ever heard of one. So given that most strains give a decent high I'll take taste over high every time because in the end I want to enjoy the experience from start to finish rather then struggle thru the beginning of the process just to get to an acceptable end.

I went for "stoniest" although nice tasting smoke and a good high/stone all in one would be preferable.

Having said that, earlier this year I grew Ice from female seeds. Conditions were o.k, but they flowered in lower temps which added a month or so till they were ready. When dried and cured, I remember a lack of odour and thought.....oh dear. Completely covered in resin and very sticky. When smoked, you wonder why the taste is so bland. All pheno's were like this. But then after half way through a joint you begin to get an effect, then 20 minutes later your nailed to the chair, shitfaced for the next couple of hours....this is one of the most potent strains I've grown.....however no real taste....so I go for effect.

Last grow was C99 from female seeds and the flavour's were all nice and grape fruity and others of pineapple and some inbetweeners ( citric ). Different strain to Ice and also effect. Still potent and on a couple of pheno's you gotta be careful due to the racy, paranoid high if overdone......But the Ice really gets you wrecked.

Most friends prefer the Ice......so I go with effect.

If you are buying it, forget the flavor. Be frugal, go for the biggest bang. You are subject to market flux anyway. You wouldn't buy it for any amount of money if it didn't get you high, even if it tasted like cake batter ice cream.

I'm a taste/smell guy. But, I grow. I won't ever run out and have to lay down my own 40 anything to get it.. If I do a seed run and pheno hunt, then smell/flavor comes into play bigtime when testing for a keeper. If I wanted to chuck pollen, then once again some emphasis returns to potancy.
