I would like to start a discussion and appreciation for the Grape cultivars
What seed stock or crosses have you found consistently produces the best Grape smell and flavor? It can be photoperiod or auto as long as they are reliably Grape from seed. Have you noticed any specific phenotypic traits inherited along with the Grape type? Is the smell consistent on F1 outcrosses or only found in more worked IBLs?
Regarding what makes "Grape" flavor, it is primarily from a chemical compound called Methyl Anthranilate. Its an ester, not a terpene, that mimics the flavor and aroma of concord grapes and is usually produced synthetically but it can naturally occur in the concord grapes and other Vitis labrusca grapes hybrids. Its also been found in other plants like bergamot, black locust, champak, gardenia, jasmine, lemon, mandarin orange, neroli, oranges, rue oil, strawberry, tuberose, wisteria, galangal, and ylang ylang. So I would personally assume cannabis is no different and is capable of producing this ester as well though I dont see any research on it currently
Ive found plants within Afghani #1 seeds that can lean towards an almost fruity grape-like smell but never consistent or hard hitting like an artificial concord grape.
