Granular fertilizer

Can I give soil a pre-charge of nutrients by applying time release granular fertilizer 30 days before plant out? Or will that method cause the nutrients to leach out of the soil or perhaps over fertilize the soil and burn up the seedlings? I will be using Algomin for the garden, it's the red bag. Open to ideas. Thanks.

Of course you can. And if you do it 30 days before plant out you should be real safe from nutrient burn.
I've thrown a handful in the ground and planted the same day and had no problems. Just try and leave a small amount of untreated soil between roots and fresh fertilizer.
It's best to let the time release fert's break down so it's available to the plants.
30 day's is plenty of time.
Best of luck and may all your Buds be Huge.

Thanks GG. So you mixed the granular fertilizer into the soil? Is that better then applying on top of the soil? Also, from what you said, the fertilizer should slowly begin to break down and release fertilizer. You don't think it will leach out of the soil before I plant out?

Any ideas help. Don't want to waste fertilizer by applying too soon. I also don't want to burn my plants with too much fertilizer. Thanks.

Mix in the soil when first applied, and if you decide to put more on later in season, top dress with it.
I wouldn't worry about it leaching out, that's what time release is all about, releasing nutrients over a certain amount of time.( usually months)
It really depends on a lot of factors, the soil you start with, amount of water applied, heat, the size of your plants, ect. ect.
Just follow the directions for your particular brand.
There is no perfect answer. Just try the product and grow, learn and adapt.

Good luck
GG

P.S. If your worried about nutrient burn, test your mix on some different seedlings, tomatoes, Ect.

Also you can till in time release ferts at planting and then apply water soluble right then to get you through until the time release kicks in.
Most time release are temperature dependent, keep that in mind.

one time release strategy:

till in short cycle/high N time release (so N tapers off by sept)
immediately apply veg fert to get you through until "tilled in" kicks in
go relax for summer (kinda)
come back mid august and top dress bloom fert
harvest

(obviously over simplified)

I would just wait until you plant if I was you.

If you wanted to add limestone or gypsum you could do that well ahead of planting.
