Just so everyone knows, I will still work with GG#4 at some point, but it'll take a minute to find the right male again. I still have some ChemSour x SSCDH beans, that I'll Ix and then start sorting and hunting through.
The only downside to that is more genetic variation introduced, perhaps, and well, it's not like a new male will be a 1000% sure deal right away until tested out on a few plants, where as the SSCDH male was no question a male that improved everything he touched. So, all is not entirely lost, it's just going to be a while again...
On the other hand, there will be all kinds of GG#4 beans around from the sounds of things, and seeing those offspring will really help me in deciding if I'm on the right track in my own efforts again.
Sigh...two step backwards, 1/2 a step forward...
Point was NEVER to beat anyone to the punch or to be the first to work the plant (Bigscoot already had his crosses done anyway) - the whole point was to utilize THAT male. Again, truly sorry to anyone who was let down and is now back to hunting some way to have glue or relatives in their garden. I really wish things had played out differently....for everyone.
Best wishes to all the glue growers - to everyone making beans with her - can't wait to see the various line progressions. to all.
