and i honestly dont know how bad it is for the enviroment....or why its not legal in some areas

NOKUY - your basically re-arranging the stream bed - and all the aquatic life - fish eggs, all the bugs and critters that live there; - all stripped from thier safe place and run thru a sluce box and dumped out the other end.

Add to that the numbers of weekend wanabe's - - yeah it can wreak havok on the stream eco-structure.

And ya don't wana hear my spiel on dumping Hydro chems ----

It won't be a big deal in my lifetime - the kids however are going to have a hell of a bill to pay.

Central City and Blackhawk Colorado were billed as the richest square mile on earth in the early mining days, now the gold is all in the casinos.

I found it interesting, when they were building the new casinos and cutting the mountain back, there was no interest in the minerals possibly uncovered.

We had family mines in the area - grandma said the mountains are full of faults - you can have a good vein of gold (smaller than a pencil lead) and it will suddenly disapear. She didn't seem too impressed with mining. Grandad died of several lung ailments related to mining, sometime before I was born.

Remember too,, during the boom days - things like an egg sold for $20. Wiskey and the Ladies usually made more than the miners.

bro your spot on ...i prolly dont have to tell u to look at a land map of the area.....it looks sooooooo strange (my friend lives at st. mary glacier)....the plat is so so strange. they have about 15 acres, but part of it is chopped up a hill that you'd never even see....most of it isnt connected...its just weird.

..all due to mining intrests.

All that glitters is not gold.

Looks easy, but looks can be decieving.

ok

u can get gems w/ the same methods....they usually arent as valuable as gold tho.

they use suction dredges to harvest emeralds from the ocean just like getting gold.

keep in mind that the area affected but a few small time dredges in alaska doesnt have the impact it may in other areas, as the native species have so much room up there it is easy to relocate. now the effect that big time mines have is a serious eco concern, and must be handled with foresight and planning, i dont think you will change the world with your setup bro.

thats my thinking too.

i dont plan to fuk up any ecosystem...i plan to hit and run .....i was looking at a cpl of really nice suction dredges and i think i can do this w/ out anyone knowing and no permits.

i know sum areas, and i think i can do this really clean and efficiently.

the GF thinks im like a shady robber w/ this but fuk it.

ill post a cpllinks to the dredges im thinking of.

Ya tend to hunt what's in your neighborhood - or where you like to go, It's ALL a lotta work and a fair bit of luck. But it's outdoors in natures best - usually with a smile.

If you have ever experienced spring snow melt and run off in the Rockys,, mother nature re-arranges the entire stream bed on a regular basis - - so what a 5 hp pump can do is NOTHING in comparason.

They are experimenting with hugh flows thru the Hover Dam to get the high water flows on the Colorado river - and the rush ot water has improved river health and habitat that is missing from the old pre-dam days.

The big problem I see with dredges and pumps is the fact anter one leaves, there is somebody else covering the same real estate the next day - or week.

If I'm camping near possible gold panning areas - I usually have my fishing pole and my gold pan in the trunk of the Honda Goldwing cycle. - And yes Virginia - there is good fishing and panning a short "bike" ride away.

May you find a really nice nug.
Or TWO!

Keep the shinny side up!

i hear opals in neveda are big right now. search for public mines. loads of place. they have tv shows gold fever, best places to find cash and treasure. ive been wanting to go so bad. but im way down south where theres no hill and no good weed. people who are in mountainios areas can find gold in there back yard.. valleys is where its at. anywhere u can see bedrock on the surface ure shore to find something search the deep cracks.

after reading through that site I'm reminded that just as in the old gold rush days (daze) the folks getting the richest are the ones selling the equipment to the miners.......

thats tru bro....they are selling a dream..a lifestyle....just a gypsy sells seeds.

is gypsy really just selling seeds?

i dont think so.

Prospecting for precious metals/minerals is pretty much like gambling - there's a good chance you'll end up with nothing, and the chances of finding anything that'd make it worth your while is rare so even if you find something it may not be worth it. At least when you grow a plant you know you'll end up with something (assuming you take care of it)

Prospecting is a good time. whether you are gem mining or panning for gold. You can't expect to get rich. I go every couple of years and have a good time with friends. That suction dredge could be made very easily. but you better be on a spot on location for gold because the price of gas running the pump is like gold in itself. :joint:
