Gnat Larva?

tonight i noticed some tiny maggot like larva i think they are from gnats but am not sure. I have an ebb and flow setup right now and they are feeding off the algae on the clay pebbles. Is there anything to kill them without upsetting my pH and chemical balance or ultimately killing the plants. Any help would be appreciated.
this is the setup I'm working with

Bti (aka Gnatrol, Mosquito Dunks, etc) will take out larva and it's non-toxic to animals and plants...but lethal to larva :D Getcha some sticky traps to control the adults and hit the res with BTi and they'll be gone in under a week.

sm90 will kill the bti and render it useless.
One or the other, I suggest bti as mtf-sandman already suggested.

is right on , the dunks work great,I hang a stainless steel strainer in a 5 gallon bucket and put the dunk in the strainer, they break down into small pieces after awhile and the strainer keeps the pieces out of the water.

so after i strain the "dunks" i pour the water into the Infected tray and let it drain as usual or should i plug up my drain or let it sit in the tray for a bit....you guys are being plant saviors lol thanks for your prompt replies

Just toss the dunk in the res jinxkakashi
You want the active bti bactors to be IN the res nute solution, and make sure the entire medium gets a good wetting down with a few of the floods so that ALL the rocks are *innoculated with the bti bacteria.

*added edit...
During a few of the floods just scoop up some solution in the tray and pour it over the tops of all the medium (grow rocks or whatever you're using) so that none of the little bastards go untouched and all the medium gets exposed to the bacteria.

Any tips fpr using the mosquito dunks in soil? Make a tea and water plants?

You can just add it to the water and give them a thorough watering the next time they are due. If they are persistent, you can crumble up a dunk on top of the soil and then every time you water it will reinnoculate the soil.

They are for pond use so you don't need much. I just crumble up a little so there aren't large chunks of it in the water. It works well. Gnatrol works well too. Same active ingredient.

thanks all im having a prob finding them, i went to greenfire but they were out and they told me that they were special order and the smallest amount would cost over a hundred bucks if you guys know of any good online grow stores or any in the sacramento/bay area

bacillus thuringiensis or BT comes in powder form at armstrong garden centers. I used to use it all the time for my mushroom crop. All it is is small bacteria that get in the gnats stomach and end their life. I have had a plague of fungus gnats and this is the only solution imo.

You are talking about "Bacillus Thuringiensis".

And even tough prefessional gardeners may tell you it´s harmless:

IT IS NOT!

It can cause serious health damages, there have even been reports about people who overereacted to fruit that contained BT and died...

Use yellow stickers to detect the fungus gnats, and to control them.

To get rid of them in a natural way, use predators.

In this case so called "SF NEMATODES".

Just google around a bit and you´ll find a source for them.

The damage is done by the larve(even tough it´s not nice to remove dozens of dead gnats stuck in your buds while manicuring..), and the SF Nematodes eat those larves.

Good luck,

i read a half inch of perlite or sand on top of the soil would control them. I didnt have perlite so tried volcanic hydro medium... so far they are still there.. I put a paper cup of beer in my grow area and collected a few but am not solving the problem that way.
