set them on the floor like i do & use a shop vac for the runoff . takes 5 minutes everyday to suck up the runoff . if your going to be gone for a few days ... dail back the timers so you get very little to no runoff .... & just flush them when you get back & reset the timers . i do this all summer when i go to camp for 5 days at a clip .

Yall know what guys..... if i could convince myself....... my life would be much easier...... ya see the shop has an office with a small window...... its also 10.5 foot wide and 22 feet long..... with 8 foot ceilings....... Its the coolest place in the shop and has 2 vents for the central air already...... If i could keep my trays low enough to the ground..... but it has 8 foot ceilings.....

jealous !!!!! :shucks:

define what your goals are...how much do you need/want to produce, and how often? how much space do you have and what size are the rooms? are you doing perpetual or a one room veg/flower system? whats your proposed budget? what resources do you already have?

other important things to consider....can you get rid of the weed you grow? got trimmers? its great to grow more in theory unless you cant get rid of it or you lose product because you cant trim it fast enough...and the time factor,mo lamps = mo garden time...

I want to do a perpetual grow... so I'm thinking like a sea of green with 4 trays 4x6 it wont happen all at once....... so for now just two 4x6 trays

I still want to keep it small and manageable for now... as all of the aspects of the grow have to grow together..... not trying to swamp myself...... At the moment just wanting to double the system i have currently built..... in one end of that office.... and run another Gavita so for the moment Im basicly building a 10.5 x 4.5 inclosed space....

I'd suggest movable walls/reflective dividers so that you can easily resize your grow space as need be.

If you're going to use high UV lights like the Gavita it is important to use Mylar type reflective material, as white will not reflect the UV. White absorbs the UV and is heated as a result. That reflective foam board may be a nice option.

Also with bringing on a second Gavita, adding their master controller (250$) may be a good building block. Offers sun rise/sunset and will lower and raise the wattage per heat conditions.

As Dan, I am a bit jealous of your work space ;-)~

I have 2 4x4 trays and a 2x4 tray to use already in that space 10.5 x 4.5

2 4 x 4 trays with a gavita over each one should do you very well for awhile . each tray 4 to 5 weeks apart for perpetual runs & you could throw the 2 x 4 against one of the walls for odd ball plants that you want to check the growth patterns on & bud testing . 6 to 9 plants per tray & you've got your 2lbs a month . less plants than sea of green & less cloning too . you see what i do in my room & i have alot less head room than you . plants go in at 24" , my nets are set at 36" & i train them into the nets during the stretch so they don't get to close to the lights & helps me get a more even canopy .

gavitas at 8ft might have to be turned down a bit if they get to intense , but its not going to hurt yields at all , theres plenty of folks doing the same thing & killing it in the yields .

later on , open up the room to 10.5 x 10.5 & run 4 lights & 4 trays like my set up ...... 2 trays per month perpetual .

if that were my space .... i'd have 2 10.5 x 11 ft rooms , 1 for flower with 4 gavitas & 4 trays & the other one would be veg & mom area , with shelving for cloning & small veg with 2 bulb T5s on each shelf , 2 315CMH for vegging my flowering plants & 2 more 315's for moms

pretty much what he said...

you want at least 25% of your flowering wattage in your veg room, meaning if you're running 4k in flower you will need at least 1k in veg to keep it running...
i run 4k in flower which is the perfect size to pay the bills and allow me live a comfortable life and indulge my mad bike lust, even lowballing and only figuring 1 lb per lamp and 2500/lb its enough to pay rent/bills/food/stuff and in general not eat up too much time...

so 4k for flower in an 8x8 space,1k in veg over a 4x4 tray on 18/6,an 8 bulb 4 foot t5 rack in a different room for early veg along with a small cloning tent with a 15w cfl bulb, those on 24/0...

plants go from cutting,to rooted clone under the t5,to 1 gallon pots, then into main veg to 2 gallon pots and then onto their flowering containers,i do serial cloning so i take my clones for the next round right before the plants go into flower so they have 9 weeks or so to go from cuttings to ready to flower plants...

with coco Unc , we can skip all that up potting & wasted time . we can go from well rooted clone in a cup right into the final pot for veg , knocking off 2 weeks minimum . :tiphat:

& i try to do the same with clones in a 9 week time frame . 2 weeks to root , 2 weeks in cups & 4 to 5 weeks in the 3 gallon pots before flower .
