Parties have particular ideas and plans on how things should be and when a person from one party or another gets elected the politician sees that as a mandate from the masses in favor of the party agenda of that politician. Why not just have qualified people run for office and let them campaign on actual solutions to problems? The person with the best solution wins. Also along with the end of the parties I would love to see an end to the electoral college so that people get elected by the citizens, not by other politicians.

They could careless what happens to this country because if it declines into poverty they'll just focus more on the emerging markets in China and India that are way bigger then this market here in America and Europe.

You think I'm in favor of Healthcare reform as it stands?
What we have is not healthcare reform. Like I said it's health insurance reform. There are two groups that benefit from health insurance reform. The insurance companies because the reform now makes it mandatory for you to have insurance. Millions before didn't and so now the insurance companies will grow richer with all the millions of new premiums they'll be raking in. The other group is the healthcare providers. They'll benefit because with everyone having insurance they'll get paid, maybe not as much as they want but better then nothing. Nothing is really improved for the patient. The'll still spend way more money then they should on disease treatment rather then disease prevention. Things may stabilize briefly because of all the new monies coming in but then they doctors will try to get more money and the insurance companies will try to get more money and prices will continue to rise from an already overly inflated price based on you being willing to pay in order to get better.

Now could you please stop trying to turn this into a political debate and stick to the topic?

I'm not so sure I quite agree. Yes we are bombarded with information that isn't exactly accurate but yet ends up influencing us if we allow it. This has become much more serious as technology has reshaped how we gather and spread information. The suicide that prompted this thread and the reason behind the suicide is the ultimate expression of how serious. Still people are able to see thru it, people like you and I and let's face it, we're stoners and if a couple of stoners can see it then I'm confident alot of others see it too. Once you have that knowledge and understanding you have the ability to react differently. To make a choice. I would agree that people program themselves into non action with phrases like "My vote means nothing" or "I'll protest by not voting". Not only should they be voting but in this day of relative ease of contacting most anyone, even elected officials, we should constantly be in our representatives ear so to speak letting him/her know what they better do if they want to keep their office. By now we should have learned that the title of politician is the same as a sign saying, "I can't be trusted unsupervised." I mean if we can be online as much as we are, arguing about politics, and by that I mean all the blogs and political sites with all their followers that day after day after day bitch about how bad things are, then why can't they all agree they are unhappy about it and do something? It's because they are enemies of one another and enemies engage in useless combat, that's what the party system does for us.

So rather then say we are programed by them thru lies I say we are distracted by them into inaction like a magician using smoke and mirrors to distract the audience from his slight of hand.

The parties as I said are there to dvide us and keep us busy with hollow purpose the thing is what they are trying to keep you distracted from is that they you do have choices and you do have power.
