Getting a Michigan Medical Liscense & then Moving to Onario - Will it transfer?

As of now I'd like to just grow for myself.. I don't know anyone in Canada so I wouldn't have any other patients to grow for :blowbubbles:

Down the road I would LOVE to get bigger and have a few scripts that I could grow for but as of now that's probably not going to happen..

I have a perfect criminal record so far.. (Knocks on wood) - I'm curious though.. Would they check my USA record or just in Canada?

The passport photo's shouldn't be a problem at all..

If you could help me out with a list of doctors it would be great! I'd love to not wait long but it sounds like that is going to happen so I may as well get started early..

So it only took you two months? Thats not too bad.. Does it take longer since you are growing for others also?

I am going to be in school so getting caught with weed = A HUGE DEAL. I'd love to be legal more than anything.. Growing is just a BIG plus
:thank you:

It depends if you are applying to grow for yourself or for someone else.

If you are applying for yourself then you do not need to do a criminal records check. If you are applying to become a designated grower to grow for patients then you have to have a 10 year perfect criminal records check for drugs and trafficking.
You can get this done at any R.C.M.P outlet or O.P.P office closest to you. There is a $40 fee.

Then you need two passport photos that are not older than 3 months. If you are applying for yourself only then these are held for 5 years without needing updating but as a DG they need to be done each and every year along with the police check.
It becomes a real pain after a while but is well worth it.

Also a big difference between our countries is that we do NOT have doctor referral lists like you people do. We have a federal health care system as well as provincial so that doctors appointments are paid for by the government.
This means that these doctors are protected by the system.
Finding MMJ friendly doctors here is probably the MOST difficult obstacle but there certainly are a few.
I can give you a couple of references via pm if you need one but it probably will be a long wait and I also do not know how long you have to wait to become a Ontario citizen. This I'd seriously look into first.
Never mind: I saw that you did check first.
Calling them for answers is usually a good idea...lol

Good luck to you.
I love Ontario Canada:tiphat:

Even our provincial anthem is:

How long it took me to get my license?
Once I found the patient I wanted to grow for - 8 weeks in total

Give us a place to stan-n-n-n-d!
and a place to gro-o-o-o-w

YES!

I know that when you try to cross the border they check your US history and if you have so much as a DUI you aren't allowed in. Don't see why it would be different, but you never know.

I hope I haven't steered you wrong here as I do NOT have a list of doctors. Only a couple and they are the main stream script doctors , so this WILL be a long wait. The ONLY reason why my license went through this quick was because my patient already had his MMAR card for personal production license.
Because this person didn't want to purchase the horrible supply from our government OR pay large amounts to the compassion clubs here, he decided to look for a designated grower which is where I came in.
This year the wait is much longer even for people who have cards because each year you have to renew your license and health canada is far behind schedule.
Also if you get a license to grow for yourself here as a prescription then it does not matter if you have a criminal record if you live here (as far as I know concerning any drugs offences but I could be wrong ) and you also cannot grow for anyone else either.
The same goes for a designated grower since they aren't technically supposed to grow for themselves either:blowbubbles:
In our country you cannot be a patient and a caregiver at the same time but this might be soon changing.
The fact is our country's guidelines for growing are considered a joke since you cannot possibly follow them realistically but thats the government for you.

Of course if you have a bad record we don't let you in, including driving offences.

If you are coming to Ontario Canada because it is close to where you already live, have a friend you can stay with and show you around and think it would be a nice change , then you most likely won't be disappointed.
If you are coming here strictly for our MMJ plan and don't think it will be much of a wait.....you will be HUGELY disappointed.

Sorry if I burst your bubble but it isn't all that easy to get into our program even as a citizen so you have a ways to go yet.:comfort:

You aren't leading me wrong at all! You've already helped me out tremendously and any help is appreciated!

Do you have any estimate from friends/other people on how long it took them to get in for a personal growing liscense?

Not being a caregiver and a patient at the same time? WTF?! That is ridiculous...

I am coming to Ontario specifically for school, but also because I really like the province, the people there, and Canada's general culture.. This MMAR program is the last thing on my list BUT it'd be a huge advantage to be legal going through school, and to be able to medicate safely without getting kicked out of Canada or my school..
Either way I'm going to smoke, no doubt about it, but growing.. I'm not sure if I can risk it if I'm not legal :comfort:

It sounds sensible to me.
Thats why I wanted to get carded as I grew for myself anyway.
If your current gp faxes over the info to this MMJ specialist and you get your prescription then it will probably take 4 to 5 months to get your license from the government.
Here is a link to health canada's website and it gives you the forms to fill out.
http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/home-accueil/search-recherche/a-z-eng.php#M
Its under M for medical marijuana and there is also a toll free number there that you can call

Good luck to you in school and getting licensed.:tiphat:

I will be in Canada on a student visa and will be going to University full time in Ontario. Is this good enough?
Any more advice?

Will it "transfer". No.

Is being an American student studying full time in Canada on a visa "good enough" to qualify for getting an ATP under the MMAR.

YES. You don't need to be a landed immgrant, refugee, citizen or anything else. If you are in Canada and otherwise meet the medical criteria for an ATP - you can get an ATP and a PPL.

You might not be a resident for tax purposes, but for health purposes -- you certainly are, and that's what's important. Indeed, you are required to pay as part of your tuition package as a foreign student a surcharge because of medical services available to you in Canada under OHIP.

Are you eligible to get an ATP under the MMAR on a student visa? ABSOLUTELY. Can you qualify under the Canadian test under the MMAR? More difficult to say. More practically, it's problematic to find a doctor -- ANY doctor -- in Ontario who will sign your form. And the fact that a Michigan doctor will sign it is not good enough under the MMAR.

The barrier in Canada to getting an ATP is that the doctors are the gate keepers and very few of them want anything to do with the program. See the thread in my sig for more information.

Thank you for the information! I sent you +rep in that thread because it freakin' awesome. You explained the situation VERY well.
I have a couple doctors in mind that I know from friends are MMJ friendly. Hopefully I can get in through them.

Do you think I should ask them about MMJ my first time in to see them or should I discuss my sleeping disorder in depth and then the next time try..?

Any help would be appreciated!
