GETTIN RID OF USED DIRT

My normal dump spot has been compromised and I was just lookin to see how my fellow growers disposed of their used dirt. I appreciate any feedback. I am soon switchin to bubblers for this reason tired of the extra security risk of disposing of my dirt. I live in a city so dumping in woods is not an option. Thanx again The Ghost:joint:

I work in a big city and normally I just bring the dirt in a garbage bag with me and dump it in one of the citys trash cans on my way into work. Most big cities should have trash cans on the corners. i suggest early morning when no one is around like 6am or late like maybe 11pm

hope this helps

Thanks GS, Mrs. Tango 420 luv Area 51 by the way you and the Mr. do a graet show! Sounds good lmv I think I will scope out a spot over the next few days. Get your grow onto all and to all a successful grow! Thanks again

I know your pain and getting rid of a 5-7 gal root ball is a pain in the ass.

It's been over 25 years since I've used pots as big as 3-5 gallons. I've downsized over the years because breeding is my main habit, I only grow to facilitate that. Obviously, smaller containers equals bigger populations, but there are many other advantages to smaller containers that weren't obvious to me at the outset. Better control of water and nutrients, more oxygen at the roots, forced flower production from crowded roots, easier arranging of plants under the lights, less soilmix to throw away or....recycle! That's what I've done for the last 30 years, recycle my soilmix. Lots of info on that in the organic sections.

How about a few nice hikes in the local woods park or mountain? With a big backpack.

Mr. Greenjeans I'm curious what size containers are you using now? I agree, over 3 gallons becomes heavy to lift and move around too.

and if you're only using a 250 or 400w you don't want the plants getting that big either, the lower parts won't be getting light anyway

does anyone have a link for soil recycling?

cuz i have recycled it for 3 years and the third year(this year) i seem to be having problems

Thanks for the feedback everybody. That park thing seems way to risky. Specially since all the corner boys like to hang in the parks. So the jakes are never to far away. Muleskinner i wish I had some woods around then I wouldn't have this issue. I usually have like 8-10 3gal bags. I use 2 600's Mule. Thanks again. I'm really lookin forward to workin w the bubblers so I dont have to worry about this.

If you have 20 small pots covering the same area as 4 five gallon pots you still have the same amount of dirt to get rid of just in more smaller packages. Right now a 5 gal pot would fit in my cabinet but nothing else including lights or any plants in the pot. I use 2-liter bottles, also for a micro breeding project ;)

i have been known to grow trees under a few thousand watts. There's nothing like a 8 gallon pot full of fox farm under a 1000hps.

Muleskinner, I usually start flowering in 20oz cups and the ladies go up to quarts or sometimes gallons if they're huge. masterKahn, I use much less total dirt than people who use the big pots. Here's a couple pics;

this quart pot almost couldn't stand up even wet

Here's a Cherry Bomb in a gallon clay pot, check those monkey fists..

Just spread it out on the floor of your bathroom and plant some grass seed, feels great on your feet, and if you miss the toilet, eh...no biggie right?
Sorry, looks like you got lots of options and answers already.

IE2KS_KUSH, since you mentioned planting grass, I have to hijackthis to my system of turning the rootball upside down and planting wheat. It's a great way to recycle the dirt through actual crop rotation as it's called in the bigtime. Crop rotation is basically just understanding that no plant likes to grow in the dead roots of it's ancestors. The wheat uses the cannabis roots as nutrients and when you're ready to plant the cannabis again, there's none of it's roots left. Just add organic amendments and lime and you're good. You could use any other cover crop. Alfalfa would provide latsa N.

That's awesome^^^
Not applicable though if you use chem fertz correct no??? I spent alot of time on the recycle your dirt thread and read yours as well as many others posts there..
I wish that I had the patience and know how to do that stuff, but it just seems a little bit beyond me.
Honestly, like I said there, I have a 100+ gallons of dirt used sitting in tubs as I type that I was gonna try to recycle but I just found a place to buy my "special" dirt near me which I did not think was gonna happen. So now I guess I can just use my spent dirt in a future outdoor veggie garden.
I did have a nice worm farm going w/ 3lbs plus red wigglers, but they did not survive the move, now I have a tub that has a bunch of worm castings in it which is good, but no more worms. Damn, they are like 30 bucks a lb. That is where all my trim, and rootballs, and plant waste was going and it was working great. I wish I had the ambition to start doing really rejuvinating and re-using my soil, but I don't.. But mucho respect to you and those that do, looks and sounds like lotsa work, but I am sure it is worth it.
Me, I am lazy, and I will be content w/ wasting a little $ and just getting fresh FFOF and using my nutes. Maybe someday I will get my head in the game enough to go down that road.
