if you want a killer crankbait, or just a switch from the normal storm and rapala stuff google salmo lures. they have a line called the hornet...dont ask me which color they all ROCK! it even comes in a #3 size
most of the higher end brands of suspending jerkbaits work good for me as they are so versatile you can fish them in many different ways , i like to jerk the bait , then wait a few seconds , then repeat , most of the times the fish will hit the lure when its sitting still. But honestly soft plastics are hard to beat for all types of fish nowadays they just keep getting better and better.
and as for the rapalas not making tiny lures i know they do , I got a little orignal sinking rapala black/white that is about the size of my pinky nail. I use it to catch panfish like perch n crappie and the occasional bass when they are still lathargic or inactive tiny baits work good
Thanks guys that was a healthy fish. NOKUY I love tossing the hardware for Pike & they're are delicious. abirdintheair has this one pegged at 8-10# that would be accurate in this system. Any Pike above 6# I'd release anything under may be eaten. The largest Pike in any system up here can be caught consistently through the ice. I'm not into ice fishing but that's how it's done. You can get the down riggers out for the big girls in the summer but catching them deep can be detrimental to the fish. They're out chasing the ciscos use a dead one ice fishing. Lake Ontario you can catch metre long Pike from shore in the early spring.
EvilRaven1031 this looks like a mid summer shot I believe this came off a deep rock pile I'd be trolling a suspending black/silver Smithwick Rogue. Some more of my favourite lures are the Lenny's #2 & up - Mepps Muskie Killer - Ruby Eye Spoon <<Bass will hit this too. Most of the lakes up north are tea stained so the #1 colour here will be Chartreuse & real men can say that. LoL
Rock Bass are very tasty along Sunfish & Crappie. If you haven't tried them you're missing out. I love to get away from people when fishing for the life of me I don't see the attraction of standing arm to arm on a river bank with others bombarding the same hole. A little effort & you can have it all to yourself.
Just got back from a quick trip to the lake this morning.
My grandson (3.5) hooked a nice pan size small mouth and I got a nice one also. Catch and release today but both were keepers.
smoked a half J of SDOG (new harvest) with my son in law, chillin and fishin', what else is there?

PS. It was so kewl watching him struggle to land this fish...which he did masterfully... the pole was bent, he was leaning backwards reeling....got it up to shore and dragged it in the rest of the way.
Now of course his dad was standing by but just imagine hooking into a fish that is the same weight/strenght as the boy/fish. You would be struggling too.
Beautiful Southern Appalachian Brook Trout bro! To those not from around these parts, I guess its hard to understand why we love these char so much more than the 20" rainbow pellet hogs! Hell, biggest native brookie I've ever caught was a chubby 13 incher.
It's about time to dust of the 9 weight, get out the clousers, and hit the saltwater for me. Time to hurt the arm.
