I fish a lot of structure tho. Either piers or some boats that I have sank over time. I currently have 3 out of 4 artificial reefs that I have made over time. I NEVER throw trash or anything that won't erode over time (mostly traps and wood hull boats). Tho not sure if any of them are still there after storm

I make a couple batches of smoked bluefish every summer but this particular fish got filleted and eaten fresh. I need about 6 fish this size to fill my smoker.
If you bleed them out and ice them down immediately after catching them they make fine fare, fresh. I skin the fillets and cut the dark blood line out before cooking too.

You're more of a man than me!

I like catching bluefish off the beach, they put up a hell of a good fight,
but I don't eat them...
Even prepared right, they're way too strong tasting for me!

Gimme some black sea bass anyday!

No way. They's good eatin'. lol.
You just have to prep them right. Bleed 'em while they are still flopping , ice them down , fillet and skin then remove the dark bloodline.
The little tinker blues are some tasty cooked whole over an open fire with olive oil salt and pepper and lemon. Like sardines.

I caught finer fish tonight though.
Reeled in four striped bass tonight. Largest was 25 inches and the others were little guys around 14 inches or so.
Legal size is 28 inches minimum so they were all released.

Indicas make dreams happen
We get stripers following the walleye runs in one of our rivers. Haven't had the chance to catch any yet. Hear they give a nice fight.

best bluefishing I ever did was on a single day under the Newport Bridge, Narragansett Bay R.I. around '81 or '82; the blues were running and they were biting voraciously, as soon as your plug, lure, bait hit the water it was set upon, hell there were so many fish that the topwater was alive with their action.

the smaller ones were cleaned filleted & smoked, the bigger ones were cleaned and cut into nice thick steaks, my favorite cut. The 5 or 6 of us fishing together were local bikers we knew and rode with regularly.

If you have not had it smoked you should give it another try.Smoked is the only way i like them myself.

Other than that i agree with badfishy1.It's amazing how 24 inch gags will devour a live 15 inch bluefish.

This guy was co-owner with two buddies of mine, of a fishing machine of a boat...

We used to fish the south end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel at night.

This was a nice striper, but not untypical of what we would catch most nights we went out..

Of course, we always had some joints with us out there....

going to Maryland in a few weeks visiting friends. i hope to get into some stripers and/or good blues while there. used to go to Hatteras every year, surf fishing during bluefish blitzes is a hell of a time! gulls and terns diving all around you, waves breaking over your ass while fighting 15 lb and up blues, oh man...then, after the blitz, drag your ass back to the jeep & fire up a doobie & crack open a mason jar or cold beer. i don't know if life can get any better...:woohoo:
