Get Baked and Go Fishing

hey luciano i am about 45 minutes from the ohio toward the first settlement in ohio,,,peace

hey midwest, looks like some tasty catches

What lures/baits do you use for walleye/sauger?
I've always used Mr. Twisters probably 80% of the time.

Yep, most of the time a swimhead jig and twister or 4" fluke will do the trick. Sometimes the pesky catfish will bite on them too :D Whatever imitates the baitfish best at the time. Sometimes they are not so picky. The other 10% during this time of the year is shad raps, x raps, and other rapalas.

As the spawn slows down over the next few weeks, lots of people will be switching to hot n tots, shad raps, thin fins, etc. And those will be the baits of choice for a while, then during late summer and fall its back to the jig and twister.

Peace

NC represent!!

I'm east coast, I'm really not much of a fisherman, I keep an aquarium myself. I rather just watch em swim... so peaceful. I ain't gonna hate though, More power to you guys.

those are called charr or red'ings they are really a reclusive fish indiginous to northern the northern atlantic. mostly greenland and scandinavia. its more closely related to the north atlantic salmon then to the trout even if it looks alot like it.

ive fished quite alof those here in northern scandinavia where they are very common and indiginous. its such a magnificently beautiful fish and a fantasic food fish.

Just went fishing last weekend with my bro-in-law; we caught 40 fish (mostly small bass) out on Rt 27 north of Everglades here in S FL. Got a great early morning buzz, mp3 player was jammin, and dem bassies were a'bitin.

Then we got pulled over by the marine cops & got ticketed for no vessel registration. We were fishing in a 2 person inflatable pontoon (Eaglecat) with a trolling motor & didn't think it needed to be registered. Wut a buzzkill that $90 ticket was...

Kind of in the grand scheme of things but no not really, I live in PA most of the time 10 minutes from the PA/OH border, but family has an old farm on Ohio side too and I spend a lot of time there. Columbiana County.

Every summer though I look for the people on the side of the road selling those tomatoes.

Ive never heard of those dams but Im gonna seek them out this summer when I get a chance.

If you are ever in West PA, check out Montgomery, Dashields, Fallston Dams.

Thanks bro.

Good luck with them cats, what kinda baits you guys using for the cats?

3-Way rigs with fresh cut bluegill. Also add a little slider/slip float to keep the bait off bottom, since we ain't fishin the river today.

Also be pitching a few jig n twisters for a few walleyes too, while waiting for the cat bite :D

Im out! Hopefully pics to follow, haha.. peace

I used to fish every season of the year, every body of water I could find. Some of my earliest memories are of being out on the water in the boat with my folks fishing.

Spin cast, fly fish (bamboo rods), troll, surf cast, ocean, ice fish (tip ups and poles). Seeing I been getting high all my adult life, I musta been then too. Never was much of a drinker, though God knows, lost of folks in boats like to drink, and I've been with crazies like that and got plastered with them.

I fished the Pacific, the Atlantic, Oregon, Washington, California, the Great Lakes (a # of them), the St. Lawrence River, lots and lots of places. Whenever I would travel on business I would find a charter, stay an extra day.

My major claim to fame? Came in 2Nd in a walleye tournament once.

Quit ten years ago, gave all my stuff to one of my boys who lives near one of the Great Lakes. Working on restoring an old fiberglass speed boat and may buy a rod and reel when it's done. At this point in life, I could give a crap if a fish even bit!

I gave it up finally because my body gave up on me. Back surgery, numerous knee and shoulder surgeries make me very nervous about where I walk, like stream beds and hiking, stuff I used to love. Shoulders won't let me cast anymore. Tore a knee to crap many years ago hiking in the Bitterroots, heading for a good trout hole way back in. By myself, stoned too. That is a memory that has not faded, at least yet!

So enjoy it while you can, fishing is one of the last great outdoor sports.

I gotta go toke up to relieve some pain...

Idoreallytry, if I plan a trip down there, I'll hit you up man.

MWG, have fun man, hope you catch a huge walleye and there is pic in here tomorrow. Have you ever tried Chicken Livers for Catfish at night man? They smell horrible and the cats just love it, but them bluegill will probably do about the same thing. Cheese filled hot dogs too, haha. Caught a monster Flathead(like 20 lb, lol) a couple years aqo with some hot dogs. Those ones with the cheese in them.

SuperZero, Nice smallies man, you guys making me wanna go fishing. I think Im gonna go put some new line on the river rods for the year

Great thread.

Final report for the night. I'll see if I can get some pics up in the morning but we forgot the digi cam and had to use the cellphone cam. Tally tonight for 3 hours of fishing was 17 fish.. 9 of which were ACTUALLY bullheads! WTF!! lol, they were biting on shrimp. . unreal.. they were all 13-14 inches too, I couldnt believe it. Thats a first in my lifetime, no joke.

Other than that, I caught 2 nice channel cats, 1 was 21" the other was 23" , good eater size, my father also caught a nice crappie around 14", and a few sunfish and bluegill finished it off.

Not a great day, but none-the-less, beautiful weather and toughing out the 30mph winds proved to be successful.

Went to the river for about 10 minutes after class, planned to fish all this afternoon, but got called away by some buddies.
Did manage 2 smallmouths during the short time though.

Caught this guy, under the trees in the water under the bridge.

This one was a little smaller, he was under the bridge to the right of the pilon
